I've always got compliments about my work and performance, even when I was a kid at school. But... I feel I don't get what I "deserve"- like recognition in example. Usually other people use my ideas (and get promotions and/or recognition/better opportunities) so for me is like someone else is getting "the ultimate prize". So bottom line is- I am very capable of advancing in life but feel I am not getting the opportunities and it is really frustrating for me. It is affecting my self-confidence tremendously. Any ideas for setup sentences? I really appreciate your help!

PS- English is not my first language so I hope it is clear enough for you all to understand!

Because I don't get to ride and practice very often, mental training and EFT help me advance even with limited practice.

I was at a show recently and had a bad practice ride a few hours before my competition. My trainer gave me one of those very frank "coach" talks about what had gone wrong and what it would take to fix it. When I asked if there was anything I could do in my competition (it's called a "class", although it's the actual competition when you're being judged) he pretty much said, just hang on and try to get through it, we'll have to fix these problems later in practice. This is usually because when a horse goes into a class, he knows he's not likely to get corrected in front of the judge, and will often magnify whatever performance problems he had in the practice ring or indulge in any bad habits he's gotten away with in the ring before.

I went back to my hotel and spent an hour and a half doing EFT. I started by writing down all my negative or limiting beliefs. Before I started tapping, I tried to capture all the aspects that came up for me. Then I methodically tapped on them, one by one, and was careful not to switch aspects in the middle of working on one. Many were similar to Chris's list. They included such things as being nervous, worrying about what others were thinking, not wanting to let my coach down, feeling I didn't deserve to win, and feeling underprepared.

After I tapped on an item, I then tapped on a positive. I used ideas from Gary's Palace of Possibilities, such as, "I accept the possibility that I do deserve to win" or "I accept the possibility that this limiting belief is keeping me from reaching my peak performance." Then I included "I give myself permission to change."

As I finished a limiting belief, I physically crossed it off on the list, as a way to reinforce that I was done with it.

If I found an issue that caused a physical reaction in me, like tightening of the stomach, butterflies, or another manifestation of tension, I spent as much time on it as I needed to bring the level down as far as I could. On one particular statement I used 9 Gamut, collarbone breathing, and the eye roll and never got it to zero! But I got it to a manageable 1.

After I finished all my limiting statements, I surrogate tapped on my horse. I used statements that reflected what he was doing that might go wrong in the class, and finished with "I'm a good horse, I respect my rider, and I know my rider deeply and completely respects me." For human team sports surrogate tapping might be used on a team member.

Once I got to the show grounds and nerves kicked in, I either went off by myself to tap, or tapped my karate chop point as I felt the physical symptoms of nervousness. This kept my nerves down to very manageable level.

I rode into the ring and had a tremendous ride. It was the best ride my horse and I had ever had, and his responsiveness was impressive. We had none of the problems we'd had in my practice ride. I won the class, and also the championship class two days later. My trainer told me he knew the horse was in great show form but had not thought I could "get out of his way" and keep him there, and I had proven him wrong.

As reinforcement after my first ride, I went back and wrote down everything that was right about the ride. In preparing for my championship ride two days later, I used my list of positives and reinforced them with tapping, then I tapped on any nervousness that came up, such as the belief "I can't do it twice in a row" or "I choke when the big prize is on the line".

I also used a technique I'd read in Gary's newsletter, "I love that about myself", in which you begin with a negative, such as "Even though I sabotage myself when the big prize is on the line" then you inject something positive that you know to be true, like "I've succeeded under pressure at other horse shows" and add the positive affirmation "and I love that about myself" said with GREAT enthusiasm!

All of these techniques together were the recipe for success for me, and I hope they give you some ideas that you can adapt to your own sport.

EFT For Tennis

I am eager to use EFT to improve my tennis game. Some sort of mental block keeps me from winning matches. During practice sessions I am strong and consistent but have great difficulty winning the game. I can stretch the winning point out for agonizing, long periods of time. WHen every game is a series of Deuce, Add In, Deuce, Add Out, Deuce, Add In....YOu get the point! It MUST be psychological. Has anyone a recommendation for some tennis or sport specific Set-up Phrases? I am generally a high-strung sort of person and have tried the performance anxiety Set-up phrase "Even though I have a mental block to winning at tennis, I deeply and completely accept myself." Somehow that doesn't resonate with me and didn't seem to have any impact. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!! I look at each recording as a step. I practice, sometimes have a script....sometimes not, and it all works out. Sometimes a recording that isn't my favorite seems to resonate with lots of people. I recently had the opposite experience as you. I was speaking to a large group & had notes to refer to, which I usually don't do for this event. It didn't feel as spontaneous as previous years in the same situation. I have 3 other recordings to refer to from this event. When listening to the recording I sometimes wonder "Who is this wise person talking?" Oh, hey it's me!!! Guess I do know my subject AND I don't have to be perfect! Sometimes we just have to trust we are doing the best we can, otherwise we never accomplish any goals. Perfectionism is a myth that prevades society.

Re: I need help with tapping

Have you addressed forgiveness? I forgive myself for my past misjudgement. I now find it difficult to trust my judgement at all. I am afraid to risk making a choice at this time. although I have been successful in the past. I know others, even those more successful than me, have also made mistakes, and still went on to make successful choices. Even if the market is crazy at this time, I know how to make choices that generate income.

The issue of course is that this feels illogical and not a natural angle to stand at (if you stand on a hill normally you'll lean uphill to keep upright). It's frustrating that sometimes I can get the hang of it and other times it all goes wrong.

Last season I went skiing and was amazed at how quickly one of the complete beginners picked things up. The difference between him and those that didn't progress seemed to be largely confidence.

So anyway.... back to last night. I decided that I would try using EFT to help my technique progress. I intended to tap before going but other than a couple of sneaky rounds tucked in whilst waiting for my mate to get in the car I kept getting interupted and didn't find time. Determined not to be beaten I decided to try it whilst there, afterall the lift back to the top can be quite dull and a fair percentage of the time is spent riding back to the top. A combination of thick wet gloves and not wanting to look like some kind of freak I decided to try visuallising the tapping. It took a fair bit of concentration to "feel" the tapping, but I had lots of rides up in which to practise.

Well the news is that my snowboarding improved considerably last night. I'm sure that skeptics would argue that practise makes perfect and that the EFT didn't have any effect, but I think it's quite interesteresting that the first time I try EFT with snowboarding I see the biggest improvement.

Whether it helped or not, who knows, but I had a great time anyway, as Gary says "Try it on everything".

Even though I lean uphill, I deeply and completely...... leaning uphill

Even though I lack confidence, I deeply and completely...... this lack of confidence

Even though I need to relax, I deeply and completely..... I can't relax

And lots of similar phrases that I made up as I went along.
