So consider this -- what if your headache was holding an energy or a marker for someone or something in your family. So imagine you are facing your headache and that the headache really isn't your fault or your issue - you are just carrying it for the bigger family system. So as you imagine facing your headache, see what emotions and sensations come up and tap on those. If the headache were to say something to you, notice what it might say and how that feels. Tap on anything there that comes up. Then ask yourself if it feels better to bring the headache energy back into you as an incomplete or disowned part or it if feels better to keep it separate and say that you see it and honor it and are connected out of love but don't have to carry the pain. The end goal is to see the headache with love and compassion and see what part of you and/or the family system it was trying to bring attention to.

Re: "Killing" headache

Hi Arona,

My experience in dealing w/pain is getting to the core emotional issues. Yay!!! I too have lost weight--20 pounds in the last 3 months--isn't it great!

A thought that just came to mind, you said that his headaches take up so much of his time, a question he might want to ask himself is if I didn't have these headaches, is there something else that I would feel like I would have to do and don't want to do? I know that one may be a long shot...

When you husband first notices that a headache is coming on I think it would be a good time to deal with it--instead of waiting until it is super intense. Also, he can look at:

what else is going on

what is he feeling

he may want to consider what he has eaten--he may have an allergy or food sensitivity

is there something that he is wanting to avoid

is there something going on that he doesn't like

When I was first into EFT, and I was having all kinds of success with it, my husband didn't have the enthusiasm that I did for it. In fact, he didn't like it (and he still doesn't like tapping--even though he has his own non-tapping version). I think that he may have seen it as "my thing"... I was kind of pushy without trying to be. I don't know if that is an issue for you, too. For my husband, he prefers to touch and breathe. Also, he likes me to touch him gently, but I still can use some EFT ideas, sometimes I add essential oils, too.

Some problems that people have with EFT:

not being specifi--being to general

not going deep

not getting to the emotions

Hope this helps,

JoAnn

Re: Headache help

Hello,

I think that you are on the right track.

You have some great ideas for set-up phrases. If you husband is willing to tap on these and he can change the ones that don’t work for him. The idea of course is get to what emotions are involved with his headaches. How does he feel about having them. Maybe his headaches are trying to tell him something. Many times pain can be a messenger--a feeling that is waiting to be felt and let go of. When it is let go of, then it is gone, and possibly the pain of the headache or part of the pain, unless there is more to it--other aspects. Just imagine puzzle pieces being put together.

For fastest results--go for the biggies. Some people aren't ready to go fast because they are more comfortable with their condition than letting it go too quickly. They can go at a slower pace. We are always at choice. Sometimes people feel comfortable enough to let a condition that has been part of their life for decades and decades. I have personally seen people let it go in a twinkling of a eye.

From my experience, EFT can still work if the person doesn’t believe in, and yet believing in it can add to it. However, a person’s willingness is important.
Here are some set-up phrases Even though:

I have doubts about EFT working for my headache because I have tried EFT and it only helped a little and the process exhausted me. I am not sure if EFT will help my headache, and I deeply and completely love and accept myself.

There may be a part of me who doesn’t quite know who I will be with my headaches...

I feel furious that I have had these headaches for 12, and it really makes me angry that I haven’t been able to get rid of them for all of these years…

Let me know what happens.

Gratefully yours,

You sure seem to have been around a few blocks with this...I will venture a few questions:

1)Have you worked with a professional EFT therapist? often, working alone, we avoid going to some places..

2)Self testing is not always reliable, again, have you worked with someone else?

3) Have you seen a chiropractor or a craneo sacral osteopath?

4) has it become an obsession? What you focus on, you get...

Let us know if this is helpful,

Anytime you make a pain go away with EFT and it comes back, you have dealt with an issue, but there is more to deal with.

For example, what is it that you feel you are shouldering? What is a burden for you?

Also, according to Louise Hay's book, You Can Heal Your LIfe, headaches can have to do with invalidating the self. Self-criticism. Fear.

Hope something here is helpful.

Gratefully yours,

JoAnn

headache with neck and shoulder pain

I am just learning about EFT. Sometime when I tap, my headache or shoulder pain diminishes or disappears. Sometime there is no effect. What can I do to improve my results?

Intro: Living a Full Life with Chronic Pain.

Hello -

This is to introuce myself as one who is living a full Qaulity Life by Managing Chronic Pain.

Hi ... my name is Gary Rocha, a retired Canadian now living in Europe. EFT was referred to me by some friends on the Internet whom I have not personally met, but whom have been very supportive of me..

I trust that this is another direction I'm being guided to take, which has been the case ever since my 'process' started in earnest shortly after my release from hospital. Being as I am new here, I have not fully read the site, which I already see holds much information! However, just from a quick scan over the site and this (taken from above): It is an emotional version of acupressure wherein certain meridian release points are gently stimulated by tapping on them with the fingertips. I think the technique is not totally foreign to me, as I underwent a similar technique called Body Work with my own therapy! The difference however, is the pressure for application on the meridian lelease points.

The reading I think will prove very interesting!

Welcome to the EFT Forum on Pain. I can see that you have had some success with EFT—yay!!! What I like to say when someone like yourself is getting partial success, is that is good. You are off to a good start. However, why the headache is coming back is that you aren't really getting to what is underneath the headache. You are tapping on the symptoms, and it is working somewhat. Now you are ready for a little more advanced version of EFT—getting to the emotions that are underneath the headache pain.

Here are some ideas for some set-up phrases that you may which to use, Even though:

doing EFT is giving me a headache, and I feel __________ about that, I deeply and completely love and accept myself

I want to figure out how to bring this up with my wife who gets horrible migraines, and it isn't working for me, and I feel _______________ ...

I am afraid that my wife will be very skeptical about doing EFT since her headaches focus directly behind the eyebrow point...

I feel ________________ about my wife being very resistant...

I am afraid that my wife may feel that what I want to share with her is weird...

Joshua, the key here is getting to the emotions that you are feeling. EFT has limited success with dealing directly with pain, however, when you get to what is underneath the pain it has FANTASTIC results.

Please stay in touch. I would love to here of your successes with EFT.

Gratefully yours,

JoAnn
