EFT was originally developed to reduce the therapy process from months/years down to minutes/hours. As emotional problems faded, both physical health and personal performance improved (often dramatically). As a result, EFT is spreading quickly among the healing community. It is an emotional version of acupressure wherein certain meridian release points are gently stimulated by tapping on them with the fingertips.

    EFT and a dream

    Hi there,

I have been doing EFT for a while with small improvements but no real breakthrough.

I did a dream the other night being hugged by a nice brown bear. I actually love animals like tigers, bears, or big dogs. They seem strong, affectionate and give the image of being protective. Excuse me for my English which is not my first language.

In my dream, I was comfortably in his big fur when I suddenly realised that if I moved, this bear could violently beat me with his big claws. I suddenly felt in real danger. I then woke up. I realized that this bear that I first really enjoyed being with most probably was the image of my father. My father being violent when I was a child.

Could anyone help me out and suggest what I could tap to calm this anxiety I have (that is repressed anxiety as I don’t feel it at all consciously). I don’t know what to do with this dream that actually reveals what my inner child thinks about my father or being in a relationship. I think my subconscious mind or inner child thinks I am in real danger when in a relationship (I still do nightmares of my father at 30 years of age). But I unfortunately don’t feel any emotional charge at all when doing my tappings. It is all deeply repressed. I’d say that my inner child is blocking me from being in a relationship to protect me. And it has an amazing power. The weird thing is that I have no emotional charge at all (apart from in my dreams sometimes) so I find it difficult to clear the emotions through EFT (as there are none) or find the words to bring that negative emotions and then being able to clear it.

I would very much appreciate your point of view or help me to deal with that dream that has a lot of sense to me.

    Many thanks.

    Your English is excellent!

Here is an article that might be of help using EFT for our dream issues

    http://www.emofree.com/Articles2/dream-issues.htm

It is very common to have this conflict about our parents, the love and the fear, because sometimes our parents are unpredictable due to their own trauma history and reactions.  I have written about my own experience with this and I do understand.

When you say you have expressed anxiety how do you know this?  Is it because of your dreams.

Our subconcious communicates to us in all sorts of ways and I often start sessions with clients on disturbing dreams they have had.

When working with the parts of us who are trying to protect us it is a good idea to start with appreciating their positive intention.

If you have no emotional charge do you have memories?  Can you see pictures of things that have happened to you that could contribute to this.

It might be worth working with someone who is experienced in working with childhood trauma to support you through this process.  I know I have needed that support at times during my own healing as their are places I would not have gone to alone.

    Best wishes

    Gill

Sorry forgot to add you can tap for

"Even though a part(s) of me remembers being unsafe, that was then, this is now, its not happening now, I just remember the feeling and I choose to know that right here, right now I am safe!

That helps me alot when anxious feelings come up and I know nothing is wrong in the here and now, its just old stuff.  Clearing out the old memories means the old stuff doesn't come back to haunt us but doing the above can take care of feelings of anxiety when they arise.

    Re: EFT and a dream

Thank you very much Gill for your answer,

My aim here is more to take the opportunity to work on this dream (the deep anxiety after being around someone protective) rather than saying to myself that I am safe now. When I woke up, I realised that this dream had a meaning to me and that my subconscious mind (or inner child) is preventing me from meeting men because it thinks there is a big danger (due to my father).

Would you have maybe some sentences you could recommend to use related to this image on the dream. Because otherwise, if I tap on my memories of my father being violent, there are no emotions attached to it. So I have the feeling I tap for nothing. Just to mention I haven't seen my father since I'm about 9ish, which is about 20 years ago.

I did a session with a practitionner and have been disappointed as he didn't understand that I had no emotional charge on my memories. Maybe he wasn't a specialist on childhood issues. I lost both money and hope.

I've read stories where some people with big traumas managed to heal themselves with EFT. I think I have a good understanding at EFT and how our subconscious mind works (well I think!) but I'm not a very creative person. If anyone could recommend some tapping sentences, or give me their point of view, that would be great.

     Thanks for your help,

    Hi Jade,

I favor the simplest approach first.  Dreams are a great tappable event, and you do not need to feel a charge on them to tap for them.

    Setup

"Even though I have this bear dream feeling, I deeply love and accept myself"

    Reminder

    "This bear dream"

Tap this until the dream is zero or until half an hour or so has elapsed.  Keep a notebook by your bed for when you wake up remembering another such dream. Tap for that too, and any other dreams as they come to you.  Dreams are a bit of our past that our unconscious minds feel safe to bring up for healing. How wonderful this gift is!
