    Conscious of swallowing and throat tightness - making social interactions less enjoyable

    Hey. For the last couple of years I've been very conscious of swallowing, especially during social situations. The urge to swallow happens because I think about it. My mouth also starts to produce lots of spit. My throat can also feel tight. It's super annoying when I watch a movie with friends and I think about it all the time. I also don't want them to hear me swallowing which leads to trying not to swallow, but that makes the tightness worse I can remember the first time it happened too. It was right after an awkward sexual experience when I was about 15. After when I wanted to be quiet and not make any noise I became aware of swallowing and that led to about 15 minutes of constant swallowing of spit and throat tightness. Now that I want to do something about it - it's also made me think more about it. Which so far has done nothing, except MORE spit production and more tightness. During breaks at work I'm constantly swallowing..... and i'm losing my mind soon. Could EFT be helpfull with this? Any tips for what to tap on? Thank you! -D

     Hi,

    Since you can remember the very first time your swallowing issue started, why don't you take yourself back to this event and tap on all the feelings you have about it? This is a very useful way to make real progress on the issue. If it's very intense for you even thinking about thinking about it, you can tap on that feeling first, until you feel more confident to tackle the actual memory itself. 

    When you feel more confident about handling the memory itself (if this has even been an issue for you), think about what the experiences meant for you, and what beliefs you still hold about yourself as a result of that experience. Forming tapping phrases around these ideas will hopefully be more effective than tapping on the memory alone. 

    You can also tap at work whenever you get the chance; using the finger points is a subtle yet effective way to get EFT done when you're in situations like those. Try not to prevent yourself from swallowing or controlling your behaviour too much, but just use the tapping before, during and after the swallowing - basically whenever you get the opportunity. You don't really have to think about what to say.

    Hi,

    Swallowing and throat tightness may be due to past events where:

    • It was unsafe to speak or express yourself
    • There was sadness

    Find 2 of these events and tap for them until they register a zero on a scale of 10-0.  Then remember one event recently when there was this feeling (eg at the movies), and tap for it until zero.  This will take about 1-2 hours. 

    Then have a break for a day or so, and repeat the procedure.  When you repeat, it is likely you will be tapping on different sets of events.  Keep repeating these sessions on different days until the issue is gone.

    It may take days, weeks, or months, but you will be seeing your numbers go down as you go along.  Enjoy the release and enjoy the journey of healing  :-)

    Hi again! Im still working on this issue. Not a lot of progress though. Done some tapping on memories where I've been stressing to keep people from hearing and seeing me swallow. Some on "tightness in my throat", "even though I produce a lot of spit". "Even though I'm embarrased by people hearing.." and so on. The most interesting thing so far is the hot flashes I keep getting. Often after some rounds of eft my whole body gets clam and sweaty. Today I was imagining myself in the future saying: "I remember in the past when I thought about my throat, I actually HAD to swallow!" I also pictured myself laying next to a girl without swallowing every 10 seconds.. just relaxing. I believe this provided some relief, but I kept getting hot flashed over my whole body pretty much constantly while visualizing. I dont know why. I'm gonna try to tap some on that. I think I've got some issues about the embarrasement of being a 21 year old virgin.... (Wow my body just got clammy writing that). I was an extremely unsure kid and afraid of girls. Not so much more and I've also gotten me some attractive female friends. Yikes. This sure as hell gave me some ideas on stuff to tap on. Input about this is HIGHLY appreciated. I'm not as educated on EFT as I would like to be. Yet. I appreciate the two answers I've gotten! Thank you. (for some reason when I click 'post' all the parantheseses disappear)

    Hello

    This is related to your Throat Chakra, which is related to your self voice and expression and as you mentioned it started when you were 15 surrounding the experience with an awkward sexual encounter and wanting to 'be quiet' ... 'not make noise' ... do you see the connection there? Speak to your Throat Chakra and your own voice and expression. Let them know that it is perfectly okay to express them self. That they deserve to be heard and they deserve their own opinion, no matter what.

    You can also wear, look at and tap in the color BLUE which is related to the Throat Chakra to raise your vibration and balance out the obvious imbalance within your spirit, self and being of the necessary colors within us.

    There may also be other incidences in your life that caused you to 'be quiet' and you may wish to address them as well and let them go but giving your self ammo to be able to handle them first by raising your vibration within the Throat Chakra would be a very powerful and effective method so my suggestion would be to FIRST work there and then move forward with the release of the actual events.
