EFT was originally developed to reduce the therapy process from months/years down to minutes/hours. As emotional problems faded, both physical health and personal performance improved (often dramatically). As a result, EFT is spreading quickly among the healing community. It is an emotional version of acupressure wherein certain meridian release points are gently stimulated by tapping on them with the fingertips.

    Giving a cat a pill

The old challenge of giving a cat a pill...  Sigh...

Has anyone found a tapping way to get a cat to willingly swallow a pill or is that too much wishful thinking?

    Suzanne,

No magic wands, but I find that if I tap before giving the cat a pill - I'm more centered and relaxed.  Things defintely go better when she feels me centered.  Let me know if you find something more magic ..

    Blessings,

    Paul

Thanks Paul.  This is the bit we didn't do, how crazy is that?!!  I need to be reminded to tap sometimes.

I do wish there was a way of tapping and negotiation which gets cats to willingly take the pill and swallow it.  I guess that's not reality  ;-)

     Hi Suzanne,

Why shouldn't it become reality? :>)

    My approach would be:

    1. tap on my own beliefs around the difficulties of giving a pill to a cat since I think that is where the self-fulfilling prophecy may start on an energetic level and I suspect the cat will pick up on that vibration. I would probably use the Choices method here. Tap on any thoughts of resistance that come up, perhaps your fear of being scratched and bitten?

    2. tap on the behavior you have observed in the past, tap on the behavior you imagine will show up. Since cats can be drama queens I would probably be equally "dramatic" to the point of being silly in my wording.

    3. tap as being the cat, I would use the Choices method here too.

It may be too late for this round of medication, but it will happen again so, why not experiment now?

I would ask my vet to have the prescription filled at a compounding pharmacy, and also ask if the same medication is available in liquid form. A lot easier than pills. I would see if the compounding pharmacy can/will create a placebo or dummy product to practice the drill without actually using a real drug. The idea being you have one practice drill every day and every now and then a real pill and back to daily placebo drills.   Most pharmacies will get you empty capsules you can fill with food and practice with those. Use bit of oil (sardines) to make it more slippery.

Hoping the tapping alone will do the trick.

I don't know of a tapping way, so I always end up crushing the pill in a little butter and spreading it on my cat's paw !

She has to lick the butter off and the pill goes down with it !

My cats simply will not take anything in food, and I cannot open their mouths to pop it in so it's the only way for me.
