EFT was originally developed to reduce the therapy process from months/years down to minutes/hours. As emotional problems faded, both physical health and personal performance improved (often dramatically). As a result, EFT is spreading quickly among the healing community. It is an emotional version of acupressure wherein certain meridian release points are gently stimulated by tapping on them with the fingertips.

    Dog with Seizures

I lost my American Eskimo Dog in October. She had a wonderful 17 years with me.

I rescued an Eskie for the breed resuce group. He weighs about 20 pounds, has a long white coat with two cream spots on his back and his tail curls over his back when life is good. He had a skin condition but he needed a home and I needed a pal. I was told it was the second time he had been rescued. He had been living with an elderly person who had to go to assisted living.

Casper is VERY anxious about everything. He has separation anxiety about me and a fixation about being in the house. He likes my husband and will gladly go for walks with him. On the walks, even with me, Casper is always trying to determine the path to take him home. He will pull so hard to get to the house, it will hurt your hand. We have been working with him, using Dog Whisperer techniques.

Casper had his first seizure after his first walk with me. I was practicing EFT at the time but unsure as how to use it on animals. Since then I have been working with his anxiety. He has had seizures after a night when a thunderstorm rolled in....he HATES thunder.

It is REALLY hot here today. He and I went for a walk at sunup, just a half mile. We have been doing this all summer. I had been outside working on the house painting we are doing. HJe was in and out, checking on me. About an hour after I came in, I noticed he was not walking well. Then I sat down and he came to me and tried to get on my lap. Very unusual for this dog. Then I realized he was having a seizure and was asking for my help.

Previously, when he had a seizure, his body would go ridgid and he could not even blink. This could last as long as 20 minutes.

Today, I started tapping on his head, his muzzle, his back, anything I could reach, while telling him he was a good dog. He was safe and protected. He was going to be with me in that house forever. Over and Over, tapping and reassuring for about 10 minutes.

He was still a little wobbly on his feet and still a bit disoriented but he never went ridgid and could move and blink the whole time.

Does anyone have experience with seizures? Any ideas?

Not with seizures in dogs but with seizures in my daughter. I am able to circumvent them using EFT or decrease the length of time/intensity. You can also tap for your dog when he is not having seizures. I'm not surprised to read that his seizure wasn't as severe with EFT. When my daughter has seizures she experiences changes in her vision and sometimes hearing which may account for your dogs disorientation or confusion. You probably are a comforting secure place for him to be next to and if he can tolerate it I would certainly tap on him. You may rub if tapping doesn't seem quite right like by his eyes. Some seizures cause an epigastric (stomach sensations like nausea) effect too. Scary enough for people you can explain things to more so for an animal but at least for your dog, when its over, its over. It could explain his anxiety quite a bit though. Triggers for seizures I imagine are not that different for animals: stress, blinking lights or fluorescent, lack of sleep, illness etc. Just keep lovin' him and tapping surrogately or for him, I think it will make a difference.

    Thank you for your help.

I had not walked him in the heat but he becomes more agitated. So I have walked him the last two mornings and he has done fine. What is interesting, fireworks do not bother him at all.
