EFT was originally developed to reduce the therapy process from months/years down to minutes/hours. As emotional problems faded, both physical health and personal performance improved (often dramatically). As a result, EFT is spreading quickly among the healing community. It is an emotional version of acupressure wherein certain meridian release points are gently stimulated by tapping on them with the fingertips.

    Alcohol addiction & EFT

EFT has literally saved my life.

In 2004 after 3 1/2 years in AA for alcohol addiction, I chose to drink again.  I'd grown to dislike the 'fear base' of AA and felt a limit to who I could be.  I still have no desire to return to AA, however the learnings certainly got me sober !

For anyone with an alcohol addiction, I highly recommend EFT.  It has taken my therapist and I many months to uncover the real issues behind the choice to "numb" out from life.

Because it had such an effect for me, I have now completed practitioner trainings and work with our own clients using EFT over the phone.  The results  are always profound.

Who knows where I would be today if it wasn't for this wonderful technique.

My interest in this forum is because I truly believe that addicts need peer support.  Since re-connecting with my old AA Sponsor, I finally no longer feel alone in this process.

I'm keen to begin discussions with others who have had an alcohol addiction so that we can support each other on the benefits of being sober, and attracting everything our hearts desire.

    Go well,

    Bren

Welcome Bren.  It's great to hear your story -- I think folks who have worked their own stuff are the best practitioners for others as you have walked the talk ... and I totally agree about not doing it alone.  I wonder if that is particularly true for folks with addictions ....?  I'm a former 12-stepper (another program ...) and keep thinking how powerful it would have been to have known EFT along the way of working the steps ...

So glad to hear of your work.

     Hi Bren,

Glad you posted here.  I too am a member of AA and while I maintain my allegiance to the program, I have found EFT to be a wonderful help to my ongoing recovery (as in meditation, yoga, and other practices)  I am in private practice working frequently with addictions, and am finding EFT to be a great addition to my practice.  Thanks for sharing, I look forward to participating in this forum both as a recovering alcoholic, recovering smoker, struggling food addict as well as being a professional.  I look for support in all these arenas.

    Hello Bren,

Great to read your story and how EFT has helped after AA. I too went to AA for 6 years and then had a revelation with some energy work and decided that it wasn't for me as it was keeping being an alcoholic/ addict and in a box with certain problems. I didn't like the label. I love the 12 step process and am wanting to find a new way to live with addictions and to work with others to help them. Do you believe you can recover from being a alcoholic? I was interested in what you said about working on the numbness- would love to talk further with you about this and how it helped. So you say you have re-connected with your sponsor- but no AA? My sponsor let me go as of course I would no longer be working the program. I totally understand this but
miss the connection and would like to find other ways. I am now an EFT practitioner and a Life Coach and do a lot of work with Addicts but want to develop this further.

Hope to hear back from you,

    Susan

     Hi Susan,

Thanks for your message.  Everything you say in your email about the "label" of being an alcoholic is exactly why I left.  I also felt that I was keeping myself small and limited.

No I have not reconnected with AA.  Neither has my old sponsor, and we have no desire to.

I use extensive tools and techniques to enhance my life, and like I said, EFT has been the lifesaver for me.

I'd love to connect with you.  Where abouts are you?  I'm in NZ - Palmerston North.  Let me know and perhaps we can chat.  We have simliar visions with regard to helping other addicts.

    Take care

    Bren

    Re: Alcohol addiction & EFT

    Dear Bren,

I am a healer-therapist who has made extensive use of EFT for years.  And I also have a long term connection to 12 step programs.

In general, I'm quite unhappy with the 12-step policy to exclude things from outside the official program, even when they are - in my not so humble view - quite helpful and necessary.  Some CODA buddies are still very stuck in their emotions, after many years of being stuck in their emotions and suffering, which they talk about at meetings endlessly.  No EFT there!

The real reason I am writing is not to complain, but to ask you to tell us, in as much detail as you can, how you used EFT to get down to your real issues.  What did you learn about yourself?  What tips do you have for using EFT in the context of addiction and the 12-steps.

    Thank you.  Gratefully yours,  Jay
