EFT was originally developed to reduce the therapy process from months/years down to minutes/hours. As emotional problems faded, both physical health and personal performance improved (often dramatically). As a result, EFT is spreading quickly among the healing community. It is an emotional version of acupressure wherein certain meridian release points are gently stimulated by tapping on them with the fingertips.

    Head Pain from Tapping

Help!!! My tapping has come to a standstill.

Has anyone else experienced significant head pain from tapping?  When I 1st tapped several weeks ago, I felt like I had been in a boxing match but didn't pay so much attention.   Sometimes my body was more tolerant but always felt beat up and found myself avoiding tapping and in the last week it has become impossible to tap without getting terrible hot sensation under skull and paintful head around brain.  I have never had a headache in my life but these create immediate heat under the skull and ongoing pain.  I used another technique to stop the pain but now each time I attempt to tap even ever so briefly I am in extended pain and will not do it again until I find a solution.  Each time the pain gets worse and for extended time.  At 1st I could just treat it and now it is like a burn that has been scraped each time I tap.

My own muscle testing indicates the sutures in head are too sensitive for tapping.  My head has always been quite sensitive and I have learned how to reset sutures when they feel out.

I am looking alternatively for writing the set up on paper, holding it in hand and saying it out loud and then thinking it.

Help !!! I have had my personal peace movies ready to go.  I even reduced tapping to touching and same head cpain ame.  Then just visualizing it does the same thing.

Certainly someone else has experience with this.  I did searches on site but have yet to find anything.

     Thanks

    RL

     Hi RL,

My only experience with something similar is that when I first started working with clients and started doing a lot of tapping, I got really sick with massive headaches and dizziness.  It happened two times and I don't know the connection to EFT -- to me it was sort of a detox ...

You can use points away from the head - so the wrist, the ankle, etc --  so that your focus and energy isn't on the head.

Hopefully someone else can shed some light on this ...

    Best of luck!

    RL,

Three other approaches you might try

    1. TAB (touch and breath).  Instead of tapping on the points, just put your fingers on the tapping points and take a deep breath.  This way you are not causing any trauma from pounding
    2. Tap through intention.  Doing actually tap, but pretend you are tapping.  Do it with your minds eye.  It might be helpful to look in the mirror, looking at each point one at at time, and tap with your eyes.
    3. Find another tapping point along the same meridian.  If you download  http://www.chiro.org/acupuncture/ABSTRACTS/Acupuncture%20Points.pdf  you will find a map of all the paths.   Follow the path that ends at your eyebrow and find a point on the same path that is not as sensitive to you.

    Hello RL

Several things come to mind here however I would really like to better understand your comment ...

My own muscle testing indicates the sutures in head are too sensitive for tapping.  My head has always been quite sensitive and I have learned how to reset sutures when they feel out.

I will save my thoughts for the moment. Thank you for clarification here.

Hmmm...   How about trying some reversal statements for this, R.L? Some example that quickly come to mind:Even though it hurts me to tap, I accept myself.;Even though I don't understand why this hurts so much, I accept myself; Even though I feel beat up after tapping....; Even though I have been avoiding tapping because of the pain; and even though I'm in extended pain, I accept myself.  Even though it might be dangerous to tap, I accept myself. Even though it is not safe for me to tap, I accept myself.  Using the karate chop point is not a problem, is it?  Repeat each statement 3 to six times while tapping the side of your hand.  See if this doesn't make a difference or at least provide you some insight.

    Re: Head Pain from Tapping

    Deborah,

Thanks for the reply.  Wow!!!  I didn't expect such response and support.  I am just sitting here amazed and thrilled that this group exists.  I was away from computer most of yesterday and did not log on until this morning and was thrilled!!!!

Thanks - all of you so much.

To answer your question, I went through a number of alternative tappings away from the head.  I even just sat and thought about it and the same reaction came.  I briefly talked with the ND I work with yesterday and she tested and defined it as an allergy to the tapping process.  It appears that can be cleared.  I did just try EFT using just finger tapping and that surprisingly brought the same pain- ugh - I don't like starting the day with a "hot painful" head - new experience for me.

I am going to think through the methodologies I know and try to clear the issues underneath the tapping over the next couple of days - if not I will see the practioner on Tuesday or get new ideas to try from all of you.

    gened,

Thanks for your ideas and the links.

I just downloaded the acupuncture points and I am printing them off as I write.  I have been looking for this exact info with pictures - thanks.

As to #1 and #2  you suggested:  I have done both several variations with the same initial response.  It is interesting that I expected absolutely no pain when I initiated a round without touch, just intention, and was surprised to find just as much pain and hotness.  Certainly illustrates the power of thought.

Something will be forthcoming here shortly as a resolution.

     Thanks again,

    RL

    Re: Head Pain from Tapping

    Hi Kathleen,

To bring clarification around the 2 sentences:

    1.  The 1st time my head hurt after tapping, I stopped what I was doing to figure out the pain.  My head cracked and popped when I put my hands around it and I realized the sutures in the head were out.  I used a brushing techniques to put them back with relatively easy, quick and complete resolution. The sutures make a cracking and popping sound as they went back into place and with some relief eventually continuing to completeness.  Each time I did an EFT session the intensity and duration of pain/burning increased with subsequent greater difficulty in ameliorating the situation.  Common sense brought my tapping to a halt after pain, noise and light became an issue for several hours following tapping despite the brushing and re-alignment.

While trying to define what was causing the pain with the tapping, I set about asking a series of questions using muscle testing. I knew that direct cold such as air conditioning vent blowing on the head in the past made my head feel "tight".  I also knew from incorrect cranial sacral ajustment in the past that I would be left with pressure and odd feelings until I could get it re-adjusted.  So, I have developed pressure methods and brushing that will moved the "plates" back into place in my head with complete relief.

Hope that answers your questions.  Thanks for asking.

    Mildred,

Thanks for taking the time to think about this and suggest some approaches.

If I understand correctly- you are saying skip the tapping on the head/hands/etc...and just use the karate point only?
