Alternately, you can do the general statements. But I find that people will have better success with EFT if they have been completely impressed by results, and then they can follow up with me either privately, or through my website.

I will take the time to explain aspects, since that seems to be the issue that trips people up the most if they are working on their own. Usually they've seen an aspect shift in the 'demo' so it's pretty clear to them.

I hope this helps!

Warmly,

Pamela Bruner, EFTCert-I

Business Success Coach

Re: Workshop guidance

Yes, that's right. Since I am not certified in EFT, this will not be an EFT workshop. [But I need to get those 100 people as a beginner to take the official certification test which I have no problem doing). The workshop title will be something like Speech Fear: Roots and Remedies. I have a Masters degree in communication studies and a Bachelors in Speech. Having said that, a good deal of what you guide me to do I have already incorporated into my teaching (Speech teacher for 20 years in a collge setting). I have a SUDS level handout for my students and also ask them to discuss WHY they are afraid of public speaking. This gets down to the "aspects." (Example: I am afraid that people will stare at me, or I don't have anything important to say, or I'm scared I will pass out).

Now in the workshop, after some explanation of the Roots of Speech Fear we will begin to dicuss Remedies. As in my class I will use some of the "aspects" they mentioned (on the SUDS exercise) in the Roots part of the discussion. I find that when people have a clearer understanding of the physical, emotional and mental factors behind thier fear, it often gives them some sense that they indeed may have (in some cases "do have") the ability to manage that fear. It often puts the locus of control back into their hands (if not their emotions or belief system as yet). Then I will intro and briefly explain the various techniques/tools (ones I actually discuss in class) with the last one being EFT (which is the latest tool I have discovered). I will have of course the various disclaimers, the info to the EFT website, and some other handouts (from the website or the EFT manuals I have) about how EFT might be used in other areas of their lives. NOW, with that background, without getting into the technicalities of an in-depth discussion of meridans and psychological acupuncture (one of the handouts will have the official website info about what EFT is and its possibilities) I will explain that for our purposes we will be using EFT to tap on certain points on our bodies in an attempt to get our bodies to release the physical tensions, palm sweating, shakiness, etc (associated with our fears - and in particular the aspect each identified), and the emotions (I will provide a handout of a list of about 50 different emotions when they do the SUDS handout) so no one will be at a loss to find at least one or two that affect them) each identified. I will explain and show the setup phrase and how to write one using their "aspect" (and I also found via a link to an answer in the forum some other wonderful setup phrase statement variations, which they may have in front of them to help them "choose" what resonates for them: Betty Moore-Haftner HolisticHypnotherapyEFT.com). I will explain by showing- the sandwich. Then they (following me) will do the setup (they using their aspect in it), one round of the entire sequence, gamut, sequence. Re-rate SUDS, then either repeat "this remaining" or GO INTO your excellent suggestions about having someone volunteer to step forward. Once any are down to 0, 1 or 2 (and in my class their have been some who really applied the techniques/tools I gave them this is possible), for those who are at this level, if time allows, I will have them come forward one by one with this question in mind: If you had just a minute or two to tell someone about you so that they could get to know you better in that short time, what would it be? Once on stage re-rate SUDS, tap, if necessary on this remaining [have audience tap along on their own aspect - the borrowing benefits part you mention), re-rate SUDS, then have the person up front with me share thier info. Re-rate thier SUDS levels. Have them return to seat, and re-tap "this remaining" if necessary while another person comes forward for their mini speech. Due to time, this may involve only one or two people. I might even have them briefly discuss what cognitive or emotional shifts occured for them that allowed them to do this (overcome the fear and do an actual presentattion).

Finally, if necessary I would schedule a followup workshop that would have those reporting 0, 1, 2, levels to actually come and do a more in-depth presentation (while new workshop attendees, or old ones who still have high levels, observed). Then I would have each describe what emotional and/or cognitive shifts occured for them that allowed them to get to this point. The follow-up workshop will let me and them know if they are indeed ready for the "real world."

IN joy

Then use this prototype client as an example and have the audience tap along, allowing for borrowing benefits in the rest of the audience.

You can ask them to quickly jot down some of the reasons they might have for being afraid of speaking in front of a group, or you could ask them to shout out some reasons and you can write these on an overhead projector or black board and work your way through them one by one depending on how much time you have.

If you are really confident in your own EFT intuitive abilities, you can ask for a show of hands for the least likely person to come up and speak off-the-cuff on a common every day topic ( You can joke that this way you will know not to bring her up to the front of the room) and get her first name and how likely that would be on a scale of one to 10. (You are looking for a 1 or a 2.) Then ask her for some of the reasons she would avoid doing this, do a bit of tapping to these purposes while the subject remains in the audience. Then ask her again if she would be able to stand up where she is and tell you something about herself. Ask for the SUDs level. Do more tapping until you can coax her to the front of the room. Ask her to speak for a minute or two on how to prepare a boiled egg or make her favorite sandwich. Do tapping if this puts her in stress. Work on aspects that come up. Try challenging her with a harder topic - explaining something to people who know more about the topic than she does.

Or you could ask for the name of someone who is reluctant to come up but might be persuaded, given the right circumstances. You are looking for a 4 or 5 on the SUDs scale for the above. Ask if he would also consider singing a short song like Happy Birthday, or Row, Row, Row your boat. This should be an adamant, NO. Then you could continue with your borrowing benefits working on the objections he might have and eventually bring him up to speak and perhaps, sing.

Remember to keep audience expectations low and do not make any big promises that you cannot keep. Also remember that people who are reluctant to speak in public or have public speaking phobias can have minor issues behind their fears or they can have serious traumas involved, so be prepared to deal with serious stuff, either in class or afterwards, or just stick to your pretend client.

Best of luck with this.

Mildred

Workshop guidance

I am relatively new to EFT. In the short time that I have been tapping on myself and watching the videos (and taking extensive notes) I have had great cognitive shifts on issues that I had been dealing with for decades. As I am a Speech teacher, in July I will be doing a workshop focused on managing fears regarding public speaking. This will be my first workshop and first presentation to a group about EFT. EFT will be one of the tools explained and practised. The workshop will be free but any individual followup sessions I will charge. Any suggestions/guidance for a 1st time workshop presenter?
