Hello,
This is my first time on the forum.
I just started working with EFT a few months ago. It took me over a month to believe in it, but now I'm into it 100%. I've use EFT to stop eating ice cream after being hooked on it for over 30 years. I feel very good about this, it's been over 30 days and I don't miss it at ALL!!! :-)
Now, my wife and I both get migraines. I've had them for many years, and take Maxalt when I feel one coming on....4 or 5 days a week. I have not had any luck with EFT and my migraines. The good news is that I taught my wife EFT last week and she has been migraine free for 6 days in a row! Now, that might not sound like much, but she had been having daily migraines, around 5am EVERY morning for the last 40 days! She is a NP, and is feeling/looking GREAT! We are both very thankful. I am going to order the DVD's soon, but was thinking maybe some of you could offer some advice for me? I have been to a migraine clinic about a year ago, but I didn't get any real help there. I've done the food list and neck stretching with little to no results at all.
Also, I do have some muscle on me after weight training for many years, and can't seem to find the "sore spot" on my chest. So, I do my tapping on the side of my hand. I do feel like my energy is all turned around! Please let me know if you have any feedback.
Thank you all.

Welcome Travis,
Migraines can be tough depending upon many factors. For myself, there's a strong genetic component as migraines run throughout my extended family (and I even have a sibling who suffered a small stroke at only 20-21 years of age). For me, they were very severe, causing transient ischemic attacks that would affect one entire half of my body -- part by part -- and before receiving medication to prevent them, they would affect my ability to reason and perceive for a full week after the migraine.
For me, it required a very intensive and persistant (excessively persistent!) process to get rid of them, as they'd been ingrained in my psychology and physiology for over 30 years. After successfully releasing them (after having to take medication almost daily to keep them away, and regularly -- almost weekly-- having them break through, change expression (and thereby, thwart my ability to recognize when I was getting one -- all in all, a total mess!) I went medication-free and migraine-free for MANY months! I recently had one minor recurrence which, again, I didn't recognize as a migraine (Most often now, I can often only identify them in retrospect by the confusion they leave me with for days after they occur). I thoroughly advocate regular tapping to help keep the energy moving properly. For me, I had to incorporate many alternative points -- basically tapping persistently on the points that were most painful on my head, neck, shoulders, eyes, etc.
If you look through the postings, you'll find some by me where I talk more about what it took for me to accomplish this -- it certainly wasn't an overnight process, but sheer determination ultimately paid off. Also, Skywatcher specializes in headaches, so check out her postings as well. Feel free to send me an e-mail or private message if you'd like to discuss off-line.
Blessings!

Hello Travis
First congrats to your wife for her relief. What was it about the session[s] that gave her the relief? We all come to our places in life from different avenues and paths but perhaps there was something within your wife's session[s] that you can also repeat / use on your own session[s] to achieve some relief as well???
Did you completely address the physical issue itself or did you venture into any emotional charges and triggers surrounding life, her path and/or the migraines themselves? And what about with yourself ... same question?
Whenever I've worked on my own occasional migraine I first address the physical and work my way up the body. I start with the low back pain, discomfort, pulling, soreness, etc. and then working my way up to the top of the head [don't forget the eyes ... for me the eyes are very important to rid myself of my migraine] with all those same physical issues [the discomfort, pain, pulling, etc.] I then go into the way I feel about the migraine and begin to get angry with it ... not with me and my body but with the migraine itself and how it ruins my day, makes me want to cry, attacks my body which I love and appreciate for everything it does for me.
Then I go into the other emotional possibilities and work on whatever comes to mind at that given moment.
I trust this will help. Peace, Kathleen

Hi Travis,
I am glad that your wife has gotten success with EFT for her migraines;-)
The suggestions that both Leigha and Kathleen are great.
I couple of things that I would like to add. If you can't find a sore spot, that is OK--do like you are doing--tapping on the side of the hand.
Some set-up phrases might be, Even though:
-
my wife has been able to get rid of her migraines and I haven't, I deeply and completely love and accept myself
-
I have tried my best with EFT and I haven't had any luck--maybe EFT won't work on my migraine...
-
I wasn't able to get any help from the migraine clinic and I feel ________ about that...
-
there may be a part of me that feels like I deserve these migraines...
When you are trying out these set-up phrases out, notice what comes into your head. EFT opens us up to our intuition. So, tap on whatever pops into your head--no matter how wierd or off the wall it may seem.
If you have been doing EFT quietly--AMP it up--that can move some energy. I know that migraines are a serious matter, but if you can make fun of your situation, you may be able to break the pattern. When you start LAUGHING while your tapping--on your serious issue--you will find that you are on the right track, and usually the SUDS (intensity level) drops and so does the pain.
Travis, something else that might be helpful is to ask yourself what benefit your migraine may give you or if you didn't have the migraines would there be something that you would miss out on?
One last idea for now, when you are having a migraine, ask the pain what is it trying to tell you. Then listen for an answer. If you get one, thank the pain and tell it you got it, and it doesn't have to keep telling you with pain.
Don't give up. You are on the right track!!! Let us know when it clears and how you did it...
Gratefully yours,
JoAnn

Re: Migraines - to skywatcher
HI and my apologies if I am not doing this post correctly. I am trying to post to skywatcher or anyone else who has EFT knowledge for migraines.
My question is - if there is a known physical cause for the migraines, can EFT still help? My migraines are from low serotonin ( sp? ) levels.
I have tried every drug, supplements, vits, herbs, foods, diets etc. and nothing helps! I "only" get these around my cycle time. I say "only" as I get them 5 days before my cycle, 7 days of my cycle and 5 days after my cycle is done - does not leave very many days to be pain free each month.
I read all of this thread and must say this " I am so beyond angry at this pain ! " I am 45 yrs old, I own a business that I can no longer run full time, I can no longer be counted on to do anything for anyone around my cycle time. My daughter and grandchildren can't even count on me to be a birthday parties or holidays ! Yep I am pissed off at the pain ! The migraines have cost me in every area of my life and I am STILL in pain and not living the life I want. For most of the month I live on the edge of a sword of pain.
Now having said that lol ;) I can't image it being wrong to be angry at something that is costly me so much in so many areas of life.
Hence I doubt angry has anything to do with the pain - being as the pain comes first. So again I ask - in spite of the fact I am angry with the pain I do have a physical reason for the attacks, can EFT help me?
Much Appreciated :)

Re: Migraines - to skywatcher
Dear Butterfly Lady,
If I am understanding your question, you are wanting to know if EFT can help if there is a known physical cause for a migraine. Yes.
I have found EFT most powerful in getting to the emotions that are underneath the pain. If you know physical causes, you can add that to your set-up phrases. Some set-up phrases that you can use could be Even though:
-
I get migraines from low serotonin levels, I deeply and completely love and accept myself
-
I am beyond angry at the pain that I get from my migraine...
-
I have tried just about everything under the sun and nothing has helped...
-
I am so pissed off at all the pain that comes around my cycle time...
-
it isn't fair that I have to miss out on so many things because of my cycle and this doggone migraine pain...
-
I am angry at the pain, and I find it hard to believe that EFT could possibly help me...
So, even though the pain has come first, there are definitely emotions that are tied up with the pain. That is what is so cool about EFT, you are able to move the cellular memory that surrounds the issue that you are dealing with.
Some things to look at:
-
your stories about your cycle
-
your stories about your migraine
-
your self-talk about your cycle and migraine
-
your mother's stories about her cycle
-
what was going on in your life when you had your first migraine
-
your reaction to your first cycle
Please let me know if this helps.
Gratefully yours,
JoAnn
p. s. Earlier this week, I worked with a woman who had a headache and cramps. After she dealt with the anger that she was experiencing (towards her ex-husband) her headache and cramps disappeared.
Let me know if this helps at all.
Gratefully yours,
JoAnn

Re: Migraines - to skywatcher
Thank you SO much skywatcher for responding - it is greatly appreciated.
I am on the edge of a full migraine attack as of right now, so thought while I could I would log in here and see if you had responded - hoping to find some help.
The only thing "traumatic" event ever about my cycle or talk of it from any one around me, is my painful cramps - I am the only female in our family to have the cramps and heavy bleeding and now the migraines.
I hate my cycles ! I wish I did not believe in natural treatments, as if not I would go in for the big H surgery. They have always been very very painful cramp wise to the point of no meds touching them, and then about 8 yrs ago the migraines were added - so yes I am SO ready for this area of my life to be gone. I am done with it, don't need or want it any more.
Hubby and I are enjoying the empty nest and loving our grandchildren :)
I will try your suggestions and will post results.
Again Thank You
