EFT was originally developed to reduce the therapy process from months/years down to minutes/hours. As emotional problems faded, both physical health and personal performance improved (often dramatically). As a result, EFT is spreading quickly among the healing community. It is an emotional version of acupressure wherein certain meridian release points are gently stimulated by tapping on them with the fingertips.

How our experience fools the brain to see only what we know

Here is a great presentation of how our perception can fool us to only see what we know.

I'll use the red/green experiment in my next class! Isn't the brain amazing! I think this gives great insights into personal interaction and another way of explaining the "writing on the wall".

This is really interesting.  What however does it mean when you misinterpret totally what was being asked?:)  I thought I was supposed to look for the same colour in the same place!  My husband would say its proof that I never listen properly, I think I know what is being said.  That is just an interesting misperception of a different sense but also I think explains writing on the walls, when we interpret what was said as well as what we saw.

Something that really hit home to me how much our beliefs influence what we see, was a doctor failing to spot my sons greenstick fracture in an xray.  I think this was  mainly because we had used so much EFT it had relieved the pain and swelling, so he did not see what he expected to see and also did not believe that what I told him we had been doing was possible.  Two days later it was reviewed and a more experienced objective eye spotted it (which is why they routinely review xrays)

This is why its also good to do EFT with someone else, their objective (when it is truly objective) view can highlight our blindspots or the things we don't want to see:)

This is a great experiment and I am also going to use this for the same purpose.  Thank you for sharing this.

    Hi Gill,

yes, I have seen different people doing the experiment differently. when I first did it, I just stared at the white dot between the green and red with curiosity, but no expectation. It took my eyes quite a while to go back to normal. For several minutes, or so it seems, everything was half red and half green.

But I also saw that it doesn't work for everybody. I think there are different reasons, that also have to do with conditining. If someone doesn't want for anything to show him a different reality and perception, that door might remain closed. The placebo effect works for 30%-50% of the people, not for everybody. What do we need to do to get ourselves out of the way?

In terms of the experiement, I am actually not sure if not seeing the color changes is a skill and actually desired for a free mind. After all, there is no color change in the desert photo, our brain makes that up from experience.

    Fascinating stuff.....
