Rachel,
Although I haven't worked with a client with back problems, I have worked on my own back problems with great success.
I have two herniated discs in my lower back, as the result of an auto wreck many years ago. I had problems on and off with my back for years, but about a year ago the back pain really flared up, as did issues with movement.
Having had amazing success with EFT in regard to fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome, I started tapping as soon as the pain flared up. Initially I focused on what bothered me the most, which was definitely the pain.
"Even though the pain in my lower back makes it hard for me to get up and down, or to stand or even to sleep comfortably at night..."
"Even though the pain in my back is really limiting my life, and I want to be able to live my life fully..."
"Even though sometimes it feels like someone stabbed me in the back, and the pain just shoots through me..."
From there I moved on to focusing on the healing that I wanted to take place.
"Even though my lower back is really hurting, I'm ready for the healing to start, and for the swelling and inflamation to recede..."
"Even though I have a lot of pain in my lower back, it's time for the healing to start in the muscles and nerves and tissues..."
I tapped 2 or 3 times a day using statements similar to those above, and within a week the acute pain had dropped from a 9 to a 2. That success motivated me to keep up with the daily tapping, and within another week I was able to sleep comfortably again. Once I wasn't tossing and turning at night, struggling to find a comfortable position, the last of the pain receded.
In my mind it was all about perserverence and determination, as well as tapping on exactly what I was thinking and feeling. Disc pain CAN be controlled with EFT, and I'm living proof of that.
