Emotional Freedom Techniques
Emotional Freedom - Physical Freedom - Performance Freedom

EFT was originally developed to reduce the therapy process from months/years down to minutes/hours. As emotional problems faded, both physical health and personal performance improved (often dramatically). As a result, EFT is spreading quickly among the healing community. It is an emotional version of acupressure wherein certain meridian release points are gently stimulated by tapping on them with the fingertips.

    Fear of heights

This weekend when I was climbing the trail to the looking point at Multnomah Falls in the Columbia Gorge, a couple passed me and the woman said that she was OK w/ the walking but had trouble with heights.  I caught up with them at the lookout point where the woman was staying FAR back from the railing and asked if she wanted to handle that.  She was very willing and we tapped:
Even though I have this anxiety, ...
        I love and accept myself
        I  enjoy myself
        I appreciate myself
        I like being me
I forgive myself for any part I may have played...
I forgive everyone else for any part they may have played
        I choose to feel comfortable
We did a short round of the Choices tapping:
        (SUDS 8) Anxiety, then
        Comfortable, then
Alternating Anxiety and Comfortable, ending on Comfortable.

She walked out to looking saying "Wow" then stopped about a foot and a half from the railing and we did a very quick "short form" on
Remaining "2" Anxiety alternating with Comfortable and ending on Comfortable.
Then she walked right up, put her hands on the railing and stood there looking out saying: " Now I feel like I can enjoy the view!"

    Hi Marilyn,

I just love reading these stories like this.  I call this drive-by EFT or walk-by EFT.  It is so gratifying when we are able to so easily help someone with a fear like this lady's. You managed very quickly and very skillfully to get to the crux of her fear. Sometimes EFT really does work this fast and we all just look on in amazement.

    Re: Fear of heights

Thats awesome. A couple of questions if I may. "Even though I have this anxiety, ... I love and accept myself I enjoy myself I appreciate myself I like being me............" - Do you take a whole round of the 'basic recipe' on each of those sentences? What is Choices tapping?

     Hi Pinged:

This was just ONE round of "Choices"  tapping one ONE set up.  In other words, I only did the set-up once and used all of the words I included in my post (and perhaps a few more, and maybe some a couple of times) then did one BASIC (face through fingers) round on Anxiety followed immediately by one basic on the Choice (Comfortable) immediately followed by one basic alternating Anxiety and Comfort, ending on comfort.  That doesn't take any more time that running through one "full gamut."

The Choices approach to EFT is outlined in Patricial Carrington's work.  (I think I've seen her contributions to these forums.)  I read her "How to Creative Positive Choices in Energy Psychology, a Net Approach to EFT and Related Methods" and have incorporated the Choices into my EFT work ever since with staggering results.

Try Googling: Patricia Carrington EFT      or   Patricia Carrington Choices       In a GROSS oversimplification, it's "Even though <problem feeling> I choose <desired feeling> then tapping as described above: first on the problem, then on the desired feeling, then alternating and ending on the desired feeling.  My (unverifiable) theory is that in addition to the USUAL EFT magic, there's a conditioning set up which amounts to :  What used to trigger a bad feeling now triggers a desired feeling.  The language is also very empowering in itself since we can CHOOSE anything.  So even if it's just "Even though I have this Guilt, I choose to accept myself", that both attributes the decisions and actions to the person doing the "choosing"and also gets people past feeling like they're saying something they don't necessarily overtly and consciously believe at first.  Contrast:  "I completely love and accept myself."  and  I choose to completely love and accept myself.    Would be happy to get more wordy if you want to take this off line:  I'm at Marilyn@McWilliamsRealEstate.com

Re: Fear of heights and Choices Method Choice Theory

Patricia Carrington credits William Glasser's Choice Theory in the development of  her choices method.  There is a nice summary of choice theory on this page
