EFT was originally developed to reduce the therapy process from months/years down to minutes/hours. As emotional problems faded, both physical health and personal performance improved (often dramatically). As a result, EFT is spreading quickly among the healing community. It is an emotional version of acupressure wherein certain meridian release points are gently stimulated by tapping on them with the fingertips.

Tapping for negative beliefs around addictions?

Is it meaningful to tap for the negative beliefs around an addiction? Using smoking as an example...

    ET... smoking causes lung cancer...

    ET... smoking clogs the arteries...

ET... I am afraid it will destroy my skin...

Logical thinking tells me to leave the negatives alone or it would make it more difficult to have the incentive to give up the addiction. However, I sense that the fearful suggestions concerning an addiction sometimes lock us into immobility, even if we're locked inside the addiction itself. Isn't it helpful to clear these fears as well?

    Thanks

I totally agree.  An addiction is a way to quell anxiety, so the less anxiety we have, the better.  Guilt is also a big factor, and how many of us have taken a substance to quell guilt-caused anxiety?!

I am not sure if the negative belief is quite like "smoking causes lung cancer" .  I can't quite put my finger on it, but maybe it's more like "Oh my God I'm going to die of lung cancer", if that makes any sense.

Thanks Suzanne. Yes that's what I meant. Tapping on the fearful aspects of having the addiction. Smoking isn't my addiction (anymore) so I picked up statements off the top of my head.

But I have other mini-addictions for which I have received a lot of negative and critical suggestions over the years. And I was skeptical about tapping on these.

    Thank you!

    Hello Evan

You might also want to strengthen the other parts of you prior to working on the weaker or parts which are subject to the addictions and negativity this way when you begin to uncover issues and aspects you will be in a much better place to handle the insights and messages that come forth. I have found this to be very powerful and useful for both my self and my clients.

Work at raising your vibration and therefore the energy within and around you. Bring to your self a better sense of who and what you are. A deserving person of all that life has to offer and let your inner self know that you are worth healing and deserving of a better life and existence. Talking to your self about the energy shift from negativity to 'something else' and to be able to accept that difference and change to come.

I trust this will help guide you on your healing journey.

    In Peace, Kathleen
