EFT was originally developed to reduce the therapy process from months/years down to minutes/hours. As emotional problems faded, both physical health and personal performance improved (often dramatically). As a result, EFT is spreading quickly among the healing community. It is an emotional version of acupressure wherein certain meridian release points are gently stimulated by tapping on them with the fingertips.

    Getting experience with helping people

My main problem is getting enough experience using EFT to feel confident in offering it to others as a practitioner.  (Been using it on myself for over a year with many positive results)  My family is not receptive at all to the idea, and most of my friends don't seem interested either.  I do hold weekly meetings in my home and we tap on different issues, but it just doesn't seem to get many results.  (I only seem to get results on myself when I'm alone.)   I've thought about nursing homes, but am told that you'd have to get permission, and also that you could be sued for using EFT, even if you're doing it at no charge.  I've thought of teaching a beginner class at a senior center, but, again, feel that I need more experience first.  Any suggestions?

The saying that we teach what we need to learn is very true. Have you tapped for your feeling of being an inadequate teacher? That I'm not qualified to teach others when I can't get consistent results with myself? The fear of making "mistakes".

Even though I dont know what I'm doing I love EFT and want to spread the word. What if no one shows up for my class? If I make a mistake no one will care. I am passionate about sharing what I know. By teaching I will learn more about EFT from others as they learn.

Do some introductory EFT classes. Short 1 1/2 hour basic how to tap. Teach the basic receipe, have a very simple handout with your contact information on it, and see what happens. I'll bet you will be pleasantly surprised. The community classes taught in most towns are a good place to start as well as every organization is always looking for a speaker for their group.

Hi Lavon, I understand your concerns and I agree with Marianna regarding tapping on these issues. I have been studying the videos and using EFT on myself now for aproximately 1 1/2 yrs and I am confident working on myself but I get quite nervous when I am trying to help someone else. My problem is I suddenly go blank and i forget alot of what I have learnt when treating someone else and I "get in my way" with my self talk!. I have not treated very many poeple at all and the ones I have were good friends or family and they did get some results but not as much as I would have liked. I know that I have the theory down but the practical side of things is where I need to build myself up and to do that I need to treat as many poeple as I can and build my confidence. Something I have been thinking about doing is putting up some advertising in my local area asking for volunteers who would like help for the many problems we can assist with and maybe just accept donations if they receive beneficial results. Of course once I become more skilled and confident I will be charging a normal fee. I feel this way the pressure is off me a little because I am not charging them so they can't complain! :) Good luck and keep at it, we have an important job to do there is so many people we can help! Re: Getting experience with helping people

    Hi Lavon,

I totally relate to your post.  I jumped in and started teaching workshops maybe within a year of learning EFT, because I was so excited about it.  Had I taught many other people?  Nope!  Just outlined what I wanted to say, found a peaceful venue, and advertised.  My first class (co-taught with my husband) had maybe 12 people and it was fantastic.  I did have everyone sign a disclaimer, as Gary suggests doing, and as he does in the workshops I've gone to.  And yes, I did have to tap on my fear of public speaking, wondering why anyone would pay $$ for listening to me talk, etc.  But EFT speaks for itself, and there were some amazing results.  Did those people continue using it?  I have no idea.  Several said they would contact me for private follow-up sessions.  None of them did.   But at least I put the information out there.

As far as doing it for no charge, I'd gently ask you to reconsider that.  I offered one such evening free of charge, and no one showed up.  In most Western societies, 'free' = junk, cast-off, non-valuable.  You deserve some energetic exchange for your efforts, and a fee is a standard exchange for a service.  Believe me, I've struggled with this, too, so I know what you mean there.  But do think again about charging something.

I see EFT as a constant learning process.  Having learned it in 2001 and regularly practiced/taught it since then, I am still learning about it and feel I always will be.  So you may feel you don't know enough, and yet we all learn more about it, all the time, even Gary.  Just like with EFT, there are always more 'layers' to the possibilities.
