EFT was originally developed to reduce the therapy process from months/years down to minutes/hours. As emotional problems faded, both physical health and personal performance improved (often dramatically). As a result, EFT is spreading quickly among the healing community. It is an emotional version of acupressure wherein certain meridian release points are gently stimulated by tapping on them with the fingertips.

Hard time getting headaches to subside

    Hi All.

I'm curious to hear of other's experiences with getting rid of headaches.  I'm guessing there's been a lot of success with this sort of application and I'd like to know more about how to work with them, both when I get them and for helping others.  Please feel free to include your ideas of why it may be hard to get rid of them. I think, for me, it might be challenging since I already have a pretty well formed idea that nothing but Ibuprofen is going to do the trick...even though nowadays, I prefer to ache my way through them rather than take any drugs.  Maybe I need to tap on:

    • "Even though I believe the only way to get over a headache is with drugs..."  or,
    • "Even though I believe I have to suffer through headaches because I think nothing else will work..."

I personally haven't had success in the couple of times I've tried (I'm a newbie to EFT) and would love some more specific suggestions if anyone has any.

    Thanks!

    Jonathan

    Hi Jonathon,

I usually start with tapping seperately for Stress,Anxiety and tight neck muscles then choose for your neck to be flexible like an owl and choose flexible thinking.

Jonathan - We can often find clues as to why something isn't shifting in our language.  Take a look at what you wrote here:

    jstein:
I'm curious to hear of other's experiences with getting rid of headaches

When we approach something from the point of view of "getting rid of it" we often send a subtle message to the part of us that is creating the symptoms that we are trying to get rid of it.  That means that when we tap with "and I deeply and completely love and accept myself" there is essentially a tail ender that we don't realise that says "except that part of me creating this headache" which means that the setup statement may not be effective.

When you find yourself doing this, it can be a lot more productive to instead approach it from curiousity about what has caused a part of you to create the symptoms, curiousity about what that part needs to resolve in order to feel safe and OK, rather than "I want to get rid of this headache now."  If we can see physical symptoms as being like warning lights flashing on our car dashboard, we can use EFT to deal with the fault causing the light to come on, instead of wanting to just disable the warning mechanism.

If you aren't sure how to go about listening to your body and hearing the message of the headaches, there is a great free talk that might assist you at: http://eft-revealed.com/blog/category/talking-to-your-body/  Rick Wilkes talk on back pain on the same site is excellent too - while not about headaches it gives a lot of ideas on how to hear the message in the pain - http://eft-revealed.com/blog/category/back-pain/

    Very best wishes,

Re: Hard time getting headaches to subside

    Hi Jonathan,

I have a pretty easy time getting rid of mine, actually. Periodically, I get super stress headaches, starting

at the top of my head, about same location as the tap point, when I feel like the top of my head is going to

blow. Usually, when I am out and about, no pills insight.

It usually takes 3-5 rounds, and I end up chasing pain down into middle of back, reduced down to a 2 maybe,

and then I just will forget about it.

I am pretty descriptive, "Even though, my head feels like it is going to blow............., right here........."

and I touch the spot (I find that to be very helpful, even with clients). "Even though, I am pushing to hard"

I do tap through all my fingers, Karate Point and also tap Gamut Point. I learned the old way, and although

I don't run through the sequence itself much anymore, my brain kicks in my "song" when I must be clear,

from habit. It can happen any time, but, many times at the Gamut Point. So, if you aren't tapping the Gamut

Point, try that. Great stress reliever, my shoulders actually drop down, when I do it.

Back to chasing the pain, after each round, the pain moved.  I just remembered the following article

http://www.emofree.com/Articles2/imprinting-shirts-paula.htm if you wonder why you have a headache or

what your energies look like when you do! :~) This is a report on EFT and the Imprint of our standard

forgiveness affirmation, but, I have also cleared the same type headache, with out Imprint. Now, since

doing the experiment, I have labeled all my clothes. The label falls on the spot, on my back where the pain

retreated as a 2, I have not had this type of headache since.

I have also tapped for sinus headaches, a couple of rounds, usually takes care of them.

Sassy's statements are great to add as you do your rounds, be as descriptive as you can be!

    Blessings,

    Sylvia

Re: Hard time getting headaches to subside

    Hi Jonathan,

When you want to get rid of something, you're resisting and giving whatever you're resisting more energy, which is want you don't want. It's also a sign that we don't or can't accept ourselves if we don't "get rid of" whatever it is. If your headache had a message for you, what would it be? There's always a message in the pain or experience for us, it is up to us to listen and hear what that message is. I think looking at it this way is also a way of taking our power back and feeling less like a victim. You might find this script helpful and it might give you some ideas, it uses the short cut method but you can go through the basic recipe with your own thoughts and feelings on each of the points. So tapping on the karate chop point or sore spot:

Even though I want to get rid of …, I deeply and completely accept myself

Even though I can’t accept or love myself if I don’t get rid of this …, I choose to accept how I feel about that right now

Even though I’m afraid that I’ll never get rid of this …, somehow I know I can accept that, sort of, somehow

    I can’t bear this TH
    I don’t like it EB
I want it to go away SE
    I hate it UE
I can’t accept myself with this … UN
    Get lost UC
    I can’t stand … CB
    Go away! UA

What If I never get rid of it?! TH
    I’m afraid EB
    I can’t accept myself SE
    Yes I can UE
    No I can’t! UN
    I want it gone UC
I can’t stand it anymore! CB
    It just won’t go UA

Maybe I can accept myself anyway TH
    No I can’t EB
    Yes I can SE
    Are you joking?! UE
Maybe I can see ‘it’ differently UN
What does ‘it’ want to say? UC
    I haven’t been listening CB
Maybe I can listen and ask ‘it’ what it wants and needs? UA

    Hope this helps,

    Noreen.

    Hi Jonathan,

Headaches can also be caused by:

    • Tension in the neck or shoulder
    • Sweetener or any food or environmental substance

I used to get tremendous diet coke headaches, before I became more enlightened (kind of).  Now on the very rare occasion when I am naughty and do have a diet coke, I tap for Aspartame, and promise to limit it to just that diet coke, and the next day, I get no headache.

Re: Hard time getting headaches to subside

    Hello Jonathan

If we are talking those horrible, life changing type of headaches that really effect the entire body and not JUST the head [which I personally have and still do from time to time experience] then this is where I'm going with my thoughts and experiences in using EFT to rid my self of them.

First I work the physical part of my self that's being effected. The pulling, the pressure, the tension, the tightness, the pulsating, the pain, the tingling, etc. and I start from the bottom of my body which typically starts at the lower back and works all the way up to the very top of my head and this usually takes care of most of it once I've completely all the rounds. It seems to me that I feel the pulling and tightness in my lower back which also pulls my middle and upper back which causes my shoulders to raise up to my ears of course causing tightness, and pulling, etc. there and then theres my neck that's stiff and all the rest which causes my muscles all around my head to be effected, etc. ... you get the idea. And then there are the different points all around my head ... the eyes and the pressure and my temples and the pounding and the top of my head that feels 'literally' like it wants to blow off to relieve the pressure [all of these words I of course use in my set up phrase].

I then go into the emotional words ... such as how all of this makes me 'feel'. Like 'I want to cry' 'I can't stand it anymore' 'It feels like I could die it hurts so much' blah blah blah.

After all of this for me, since my issues at cycle related I then go into this part of me which would be to address my hormones and if it just so happens to be a windy day, I will also speak to that ... the things that might be blowing around because of the wind that are possibly causing me some sort of allergy type reaction. Oh yes and then there are the sinuses and the sinus cavities and asking them to drain and all the pressure that's built up and asking it to subside.

It sounds like a lot and it might be but when you get the relief ... OMG!!! it's all SO WORTH IT :)

    Hope this helps. Peace, Kathleen

P.S. If you can recall anything in your past, like a mom or dad that suffered from headaches or you heard words relating to headaches while coming up in life and they are around a particular time or incident, bill time or after buying groceries and the complaints of how expensive food has become [for example], see if this, any of this fits your times of noticing and experiencing the headaches. If yes, then you will want to also address this.
