EFT was originally developed to reduce the therapy process from months/years down to minutes/hours. As emotional problems faded, both physical health and personal performance improved (often dramatically). As a result, EFT is spreading quickly among the healing community. It is an emotional version of acupressure wherein certain meridian release points are gently stimulated by tapping on them with the fingertips.

    Tapping other people?

     Hi all,

I only been using EFT with myself, but I was wondering if anyone of you also helped other people with EFT. And if so, do YOU tap the person, or do you show them the places to tap and have them tap themselves? I don't know what the common way is.

    Hi Sanne,

Welcome to the forums.  I can feel your enthusiasm in your posts.  It's great.

In my opinion, sharing EFT with other people is perhaps the highest use of EFT.  It is a gift to be of service in this way.  Like many other practitioners, I make my living teaching people how to apply EFT to their specific situation.  I can't imagine a better thing to do with my time here on earth.  I feel very grateful.

In terms of your question - either works.  Most of the time these days I prefer having the person tap on themselves because then they remember the sequence better and are more likely to use it on their own.

Thanks again for joining this marvelous community.

    Re: Tapping other people?

    Hello Sanne

As a friend showing and also as a professional practitioner I have used both methods. It is true that they [those you are sharing this practice with] will more than likely learn the sequencing quicker if they actually tap on them self while watching you tap on your self, however I have found that sometimes in the beginning some people may be a bit apprehensive or shy or even feel awkward or silly doing the actual tapping so in that case I will begin by doing the tapping on them directly to help them get over this issue.

And yes, you can also tap on this issue of feeling awkward, silly, etc. and I definitely go there first as well before even getting into the issue[s] at hand and to be addressed, but I also like to help my clients [family and friends] feel as comfortable as possible so if tapping on them is what is required in the beginning then that's where I go for them.

I trust this will help guide you.

    Enjoy! Peace, Kathleen

Kathleen, have you ever felt drained after a session of tapping on someone? As if you have taken on some of their energy? Just wondering if this is a possibility.

    Hi Kathleen!

Thanks for your reply, I hadn't even thought about tapping for feeling awkward, that's a good tip!
And what do you do when you tap on them? Do you visualize them fear-free, do you focus your attention on them or on yourself? I'm sorry if this is too much asking, but I really want to learn :)

    Re: Tapping other people?

    Hello

I ALWAYS separate my energy with my clients [or family and friends] energy prior to ANY healing / guidance session so that this does not happen. Is it possible? Absolutely and in the beginning stages of my learning alternative healing [some 20 years ago] until I gathered up the info and experienced working with others and finding that I was identifying with them and their issues, therefore taking on their energy and problems, and being a filter for the healing energy it self, etc. this was something that I had experienced and it was a VERY good learning part of my growth and development as a Healing Artist.

Great question and if you have any other thoughts on this, please let me know and I'll be happy to discuss it with you further.

    Peace, Kathleen

    Re: Tapping other people?

    Hello Sanne

No worries, your questions are wonderful and that's how we ALL learn by asking and contemplating others thoughts and experiences so thank you for asking.

I am only the vehicle. I do not heal. The healing power and energy comes from Source [or whatever fits here for you] and the individual seeking / asking for the guidance and making the commitment to self heal. Our body knows how to heal it self. All we truly need to do is get out of the way. Remove the blocks and obstacles that we have put in place creating the limitations and self-imposed fears, etc.

As a guide and therapist I provide the technique, the skill, the expertise to either show, teach or apply the methods in which to allow the energy from Source to be delivered to the seeker of self healing. It is of my belief that a person has to want to heal and in that want they also have to ask for it.

So in answer to your question, I guess I would have to say that I listen intently to My Guides and Higher Self, My Intuitive Self and Inner Voice for messages about the session and the issues at hand that are being addressed and connect all of this to the individual that I am working with. And I also listen intently to the voice of the individual and in that listening I hear and sense the underlying tone and connection to the core issues based upon what is and what isn't being said. My style of guidance is very intuitive whether it be in person or via the phone or even email so it is very much about the 'essence and spirit' of the being and then of course, as mentioned, connecting that to Source for a path and direction of where to go with our sessions.

When I do group sessions I focus on the issue in connection with Source and I ask ahead of time as I prepare for the session to be able to tap into and hear any pertinent information from those out there that will make this healing and guidance that much more powerful and insightful. So I would say that in that case its the essence of the group that has been brought together at that time.

You may not work quite the same as I do but I'm sure that you will find something in my practice helpful to you in reaching your own style and flavor in healing and guidance of others.

    Peace, Kathleen

    Hi again Kathleen!

    I loved your answer!
I always believed that we all have so much Power within ourselves. we only sometimes can use a bit of guidance to feel the connection to that Power. Thanks again!

    Sanne

While I deeply respect Kathleen I have adifferent perspective.  In answer to the original question I let people tap for themselves but will tap on their finger points if they are very upset until they are calm enough to take over again, but the majority of sessions I do are phone or skype so I tell them I am tapping for them until they can take over again.

I practise EFT exclusively because this is the one therapy that does not drain me if I am tapping on myself during the session as I guide my clients.  I always feel better at the end of the day than the start and if I don't I have just had my own stuff jiggled a little.

I have no need of protection.  I know I am there for the client and I don't go through any rituals, its just my intention to do my best for them and my intuition lets me know what to say.  I base alot of this on my life experience and my ability to empathise and put myself in the persons shoes.  Other times something just pops into my head but it always feels so natural. I don't question it anymore but I always ask 'does this land okay with you' or feel ok with you.

Just getting out there and doing it you will learn, and you learn just as much when it doesn't go quite right.

    Re: Tapping other people?

    Hi Gill

I love to tap on my self while working with others because just in case I needed that round my self, somewhere deep inside or even on the surface, then I too benefit from the work at hand. Like the ole saying goes 'killing 2 birds with 1 stone.' And as you mentioned, I too feel the benefit of that tapping at the end of the day or session as it lifts me and my energy up as well, but that's when I'm tapping on me, not on them unless I have cleared everything and made sure that I've separated my energy from theirs.

I suppose it could just be that I've given my self this belief because of all the previous metaphysical and healing technique training and the heavy importance of protection and separation, making sure not to identify with your client or their issues because if that is the case you can and will be drained of your own energy. In fact, I've experienced that very thing in the past and believe me it was a VERY unpleasant occasion for me because of the issue that was being worked on [something very abusive and dark] and had I not remember and been able to rid my self of the energy that had hooked onto me, it could have been much worse than it was.

I literally felt their anquish and pain. Their fear and apprehension to the world and this person that was the abuser. The darkness that they were experiencing, etc. and although in some respects it was very eye-opening and teaching, it was also very scary until I realized what it was that was happening and that I could reverse it and rid my self of it with a clearing and then immediate protection of my self and spirit.

Thank you for the compliment Gill about respecting my thoughts and theories, experiences as I too enjoy and respect you and yours.

So, it's just a general practice for me as a ritual, sure, but also as a reminder. Plus, I enjoy the foreplay prior to my sessions as they calm me and ready me for whats to come. They [the rituals] tend to open me up and tap into my Higher Self, Intuitive Voice and Inner Self which for me is all part of the session and guidance that I provide.

    Re: Tapping other people?

If you physically tap others you add another aspect to the mix, ie. electrical,  our skin is mono polar electric and if you touch someone with your left hand and then tap with your right, you have created a circuit.  There are good and bad aspects to this.

As someone has already mentioned somewhere in the forum, using violet string or similiar object around your wrists is a suggestion.  At first glance at this idea, I thought it questionable at best, but now I will not ever be without my violet strings which were made with love.  They have saved me from the aches in my hands I had before while tapping using a circuit and frequency based tapping.

Bags of water, frequencies....how weird and wonderful we are....

    Re: Tapping other people?

    Dear Sanne,

I love your shining light avatar !

To add to all the wonderful replies you have received I would like to add a few comments over my own journey with EFT .

Years ago, I like Gary tapped 100 % on the client ( or person ) but as we all move on, I now tap for the first part of the session on the person and always show a client how to use EFT , so the second half I show them how to use it, if they wish to learn of course, as it gives people confidence to use it and get to know the points.

Over the years I have asked people if they prefer me to tap on them or if they prefer to tap...more often than not I have had such replies as:

I prefer someone tapping on me because...It feels like I have had a really good massage....It seems more powerful when you tap ...it is more relaxing ...etc.

If a second session is required, again I ask what the client wishes....to tap themselves or myself to tap. The main thing Sanne is to be 'client led' ( same with friends/family )

I was taught orginally when tapping on someone, it is called the 'power of two' and is very powerful etc.

However, as previously mentioned, in EFT we have to 'get ourselves out of the way'.

And of course ethically, care is needed with a 'hands on' approach when used in a professional manner.

EFT is my sole profession and I have never had a need or felt the need for protection, indeed the opposite I always benefit and fel great after a session but advise people if they are unsure to place their own protection around them.

If  a client or someone seems nervous or unsure before I start tapping , I use a metaphor .....I say tapping is a bit like a tuning fork & a piano ..I tap for the first round...and say I am just tuning your body in ....and it gets your body used to it....

Also...guess what Sanne, the other thing that can happen within that few seconds is a 'shift' in the SUDS !

    Warmest wishes,

    Marie
