EFT was originally developed to reduce the therapy process from months/years down to minutes/hours. As emotional problems faded, both physical health and personal performance improved (often dramatically). As a result, EFT is spreading quickly among the healing community. It is an emotional version of acupressure wherein certain meridian release points are gently stimulated by tapping on them with the fingertips.

Sudden withdrawal symptoms from Effexor, while still taking recommended dosage.

Hi, I've been faithfully practicing EFT for several months now.  I've made a lot of really positive changes, particularly in matters of anxiety and depression and simply on getting moving with my life.

I'm still on the 112.5 mg dose of Effexor that I've been on for 3 years though.

As strange occurrence has been going on for the past few days, which I really don't understand.  After having a great sense of well-being for several months, I'm suddenly experiencing strange brain zaps, disorientation and extreme generalized anxiety and panic.  In the past, I only know these symptoms as "Effexor withdrawal Symptoms" that occur on occasions that I miss a dose by more than a couple of hours.

However, for the past several days, I've suddenly had all of the withdrawal symptoms occur constantly while not having missed a dose.

Any thoughts or experiences on something like this?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Several things come to mind: One is to let your prescribing physician know that this is happening. He may be able to offer you an explanation.  (However, if he tells you to stop tapping, I would question this.)

The second is that you may be coming out of your depression and the consequent requirement for Effexor and your body is trying to get you a message somehow that this is the case.

My own health experience after a long illness was that I would re-experience my symptoms in reverse order as I healed.

The other thing to do is to tap for insight and wisdom about these symptoms and what they might mean.

Even though I am not sure why I am getting these withdrawal symptoms..I accept myself and..I choose to get the right insight to solve this problem effectively.

Also tap for each individual symptom, as in the "chasing the pain procedure".

Thank you for your insight, Mildred.

My fear with going to the doctor at this point is that she might want to "up" my meds because of my symptoms, and that is not the direction in which I want to go at this point.  My husband, who now has become involved with practising EFT, and I had a long discussion about this last night.

For both of us, our initial gut feeling was exactly what you describe in your second and third paragraph.  It feels good to know that we aren't alone in thinking that this may be my body's signal that I may be ready to wean off the medication now.

I will be tapping for insight and wisdom, as well as tapping on the individual symptoms before seeing my doctor about possibly weaning off the drug.

Thank you so much for your input.  It's much appreciated and very helpful.

I'm new to this board and this is my 1st post.I've been through the antidepressant and benzo rollercoster ride for a few years with doctors and I've been through the withdrawal from both. What you are going through is called "interdose withdrawal".This means that you need more of the drug because your body is used to the MG that you have already been taking. You can "google" effexor withdrawal" and really, and I mean really research these drugs and you can go to forums and they will help also.....(a good site whould be paxilwithdrawal. They will expalin every anti drug on the site) I hope this helps.

Hello inseek and thank you for your concern!  Yes, I did extensive research and came to the conclusion that you did about interdose withdrawal.  However, I do not believe that it was an accident that after three years on Effexor, this suddenly began happening as I was clearing away many physica and emotional problems with EFT.

So, a little update:   I decided to carefully wean off of the Effexor.  I found that tapping on the withdrawal symptoms, including use of the 9-gamut procedure was of great help.

As of this past Sunday, I am completely off of the Effexor.  The brain zaps are virtually non-existant, my anxiety level is way down, and I'm feeling very positive and happy.  I feel as though I'm myself again for the first time in years.  My family is keeping a sharp eye on me, to make sure that they notice any untoward behaviour on my part, but so far, so good.

     Thank you again, to Mildred

Having watched all of the EFT DVDS, and practicing EFT for several months is already making great changes in my life.  My family is noticing the old twinkle in my eye once again.  I'm delighted. :)
