Cool, thanks Amy. Should I 'unzip' three times when I'm finished?

Re: Protect your energy field?
Tapalot:One thing that I have become aware of from posting on this thread, is that I really must start working on my own anger issues. Most of my anger is suppressed, and it's taken a bit contemplating to realise that it's even really there! How's that for denial! Excellent observation Tapalot -- isn't being a parent great? A chance to look in the mirror all the time ..... When parents come to me to work on their children, we always work on the parents stuff first. And often times, we don't even need to work on the child's stuff. It's almost always about us. I've even seen children's allergies clear just by working on mother's fears ....
We are systems .... as we shift our stuff, our children have the space to be themselves. If you've heard the expression 'what we resist, persists' that will make sense to you. What we resist in ourselves, what we reject, hide, etc. will try to show up another way -- often in our children! Best wishes on your journey! Hugs, Deborah

Tapalot: Should I 'unzip' three times when I'm finished? Don't unzip. The zipping is excellent for anyone, not just protecting energy. I experience it as a centering activity -- when I am scattered and unfocused, it helps me a lot. Sometimes it helps before I tap to do several of the exercises in Donna's book. (Energy Medicine is the one I read).

Re: Protect your energy field?
Hi! I agree with Kimberly, BTW. I've found that many of the flaws I see in others are reflections of the ways in which I need to grow myself. :)
The suggestion of the Zip up was excellent... I think it is an individual thing really, and depends on whether you are empathic or not. If you feel better using some kind of amulet or stone in your pocket, something in the room, or an exercise/visualisation, or even nothing at all. What do you feel like you need (if anything) to make you feel protected and able to serve?
If you like, I could send you some info/links, via email?
Blessings, Kirsten

Re: Protect your energy field?
Thank you for a very interesting discussion. I have worked as an energy therapist for some years now and have always used white light for protection when working one-on-one as I was told by a very good clairvoyant that I was picking up other people's 'stuff'. I did this not only for myself but for the protection of clients that I saw during the course of the day on the basis that, if I picked up something in my energy field, I could transfer it to the next person. Better safe than sorry! I continued this practice when working with EFT on a one-on-one basis but didn't think to protect myself when sending surrogate EFT as I wasn't physically working within the client's energy field.
However, after recently using surrogate EFT for three extreme conditions and having evidence that I was picking up energy which I really didn't want, I started doing Donna's Zip-up. She does say that you can use it along with an affirmation which is appropriate for the situation, which I like to do. BTW the one extreme condition was surrogate EFT for a dog which was in very bad shape after eating snail bait. I worked on her (and her owner) in the evening and woke up at about 5am the next morning feeling very nauseous. It passed quickly but there was no physical reason for it as I had eaten a light meal the night before. I am very happy to say that the dog made a rapid and complete recovery!
I agree with Kirsten that clients often come into our lives who have the same issues we need to deal with but perhaps this is is more the 'mirror effect'.
It seems to me that, since we are all interconnected, when we make that connection whether from a distance or not, it is possible to pick up on the energy of another being and absorb it to some degree. I found that on all three occasions, I became aware of it the following day but by the day after that it seemed to have faded. Thanks again for a great post.
Love to you all.

Re: Protect your energy field?
Hi again To kind of explain further if you read the post by Kevin Saltani you can easily see it.Here is part of the post the rest can be found in the archives under August 1st. Less than 24 hours after that session, I was working in my backyard, planting some flowers, when I started sneezing, and having runny nose, and irritated eyes. That was the beginning of a very severe set of allergic reactions for a number of days. For the next two weeks, I applied EFT on myself on these allergy symptoms, but didn’t make much progress. I would tap, and the intensity would be reduced a little bit, but it would come back. Since it had started while I was working outdoors with the plants, I was focusing only on allergic response to the outdoors, plants, etc. I had experienced allergies more than 15 years ago, when living in Houston. After making a number of changes in my lifestyle, I lived an allergy free life for the past 14 years. Last year I experienced mild allergic-like symptoms for only a few days. I applied EFT, as well as the NLP allergy process, and I was fine after that. However, never in the past did the symptoms include this kind of severe itchy eyes.
Reading this it seems as though he believed he had picked up someone else’s allergy symptoms due to picking up the energy pattern of someone else, but if you notice 15 years ago he never dealt with the emotional aspect of it, Therefore it all came back by feeling someones else’s energy or being in tuned with someone else who had the same problem in some way.
I do believe that you can pick up someones energy , how else are you to really help heal them, but I cannot see it affecting anyone on some grand scale unless the problem was already within you in some way to begin with and unless he deals with the emotional aspects of his allergies again it may very well come back in the same way as last time.

Re: Protect your energy field?
Hi
The other thing that I forgot to mention about was the muscle testing done, the important thing to remember is that whatever you believe your body can also take on the same belief as well, right or wrong, which is why when he was muscle tested, the answer seemed to be that he had taken on someone else's energy pattern, but this is because it's what he already truly believed.

Spectrum
you said you thought you took on the energy of a dog could it have been that at some time in your life you saw a dog do or eat something that repulsed you? and your sub conscious was kind of like EWWWW I just mind melded with a dog that ate snail bait?

Re: Protect your energy field?
Hi Kimberly
It's quite possible as we always had dogs in our family and they do eat things at times that we may consider to be repulsive and they probably see as quite tasty!
If we look at this purely from the mind angle, I imagine that it is extremely likely that with most people / animals that we work with there will be some associated memory in the subconscious derived from our personal experience or a belief we have which could have been passed on by our family, etc. This could mean that there are many situations we could identify with and have an adverse reaction to, in which case I would prefer to protect myself.
My belief is that linking to someone in an empathic way in order to understand the emotions in that situation is a good thing and helpful to them in the healing process. However, I don't personally see that it is helpful to actually take on their energy, even if it does resonate with something in ours. I would rather make a mental note that I have some work to do on that particular issue than feel it all in my energy. Hope that makes sense!
Each person's truth lies in their perception of things and what we believe is what our reality is. So, perhaps we could say that everyone who has taken part in this discussion is right (grin).
Thank you for your insight Kimberly.

Re: Protect your energy field?
Hi spectrum
In my opinion protecting yourself means I'd rather keep repressing then have to deal with it, is it really an adverse reaction or a normal reaction to experiences or traumas you haven't dealt with? are you protecting yourself or is it going to come out in another way at another time becuase it's still an undealt with situation?
Please undertstand I'm not trying to upset you or make you angry at all, I just know that people get really scared when they read certain things and that fear needs to be taken out of EFT and replaced with understanding, otherwise people will become too frightened to even try it or start taking on anxiety symptoms because they did and did something to where now they believed someone else's energy is possessing them.
I am what you call an empath and I've been so my entire life, along with my mother, my sister, my aunt and my grandfather, My aunt is actually a prophetic minister although I don't call it empathic or any other words that are of common use, I call it having a predispositon to being able to use a part of my brain in a way that other people don't to connect with other people on a different level. (It took EFT to even be able to write that by the way)
I do agree that each person is right because it's what they truly believe but that needs to be understood , but we can also implant a misunderstanding that someone else will take on as a belief.
You have alot of newcomers to EFT that can easily get scared off because of this talk and no real explanation or understanding, that it's your belief structure. if you believe you will be eaten by little blue smurfs as soon as you open the bathroom door and if the fear is strong enough you can actually create the image of the little blue smurf that's going to do the eating.
With Love

Re: Protect your energy field?
One other thing
Once you become aware of it you can’t automatically pick up or take on anything
you have to allow it to happen and it can only affect you depending on your own belief structure, you are already your own protection.

Kimberly This is a great way to put it Kimberly ... I like that! I have experienced both frameworks -- feeling too sensitive about picking up stuff and now knowing it's not about the other at all. Very helpful, thank you!

Re: Protect your energy field?
Hi Kimberly
Thank you for your input and sharing. No, I am not upset or angry at all. I remember Gary Craig saying on one of his DVD's that it is not people who have disagreements but the writing on their walls (belief systems). That puts everything nicely in perspective.
Just to clarify, taking on energy (as per my belief system) is simply being left with a residue, which clears pretty quickly. I have done many surrogate energy sessions without any form of protection in the past and without any negative impact on me. The sessions I did where I felt I was left with a residue were for extreme conditions, as I mentioned in my earlier post.
I can see you are very passionate about EFT and what it has done for you. So am I!
Best wishes on your continuing journey.
With love.

Re: Protect your energy field?
Hi again,
I just wanted to give a brief update about my son. Since we did the tapping the other day, he hasn't had any of those explosive outbursts! Thats not to say he doesn't still get angry at things (or me!), but there have not being any emotional explosions, so to speak. This is pretty huge because this normally happens every day or second day.
Ive also become aware that I have a lot of repressed anger, as I was not allowed to vent that anger as a child (it would have been impolite, and I was afraid that if I wasnt well behaved enough, my mother wouldn't love me). So today I have a lot of hidden and unspoken issues with my mother that I cant bring myself to speak about. Lots of tapping fo me to do!
I have one more question about energy protection though. I find my mum to be quite draining. Sometimes it gets difficult to keep 'up'. Have you heard the term 'energy vampires?'. It can be like that. Will the 'zip up' and the white light help with that aswell?
Thanks
