EFT was originally developed to reduce the therapy process from months/years down to minutes/hours. As emotional problems faded, both physical health and personal performance improved (often dramatically). As a result, EFT is spreading quickly among the healing community. It is an emotional version of acupressure wherein certain meridian release points are gently stimulated by tapping on them with the fingertips.

New with eft & having difficulty

    Hi,

I just downloaded the eft manual 2 days ago & started trying to use it yesterday.  I soon noticed that my carpal tunnel syndrome was hurting me pretty badly, so I did a couple of sessions concerning it.  Later, I did another session on something else & noticed that the cts was much better.  However, I just tried doing it again on another subject & the pain was much worse.  So I did another session on cts.  No better.  I truly cannot do the eft with my cts hurting me so badly.

I read the other session on cts & I understand that there may be some issues I need to address first.  But how the heck do I do that with this pain?

FYI, I also have a very rare inherited disease: the Dunnigan variety of Lipodystrophy.  Probably most of you haven't heard of it.  But my symtoms include: high blood pressure, diabetes, high tryglycerides, high cholesterol, hypothyroid, polycystic ovaries, sleep apnea, neuropathy, hirsutism, & others. I'm only 47, but I had a pace-maker put in 2 years ago, I was diagnosed with congestive heart failure at 37, I've had pancreatitis 3 times, & last year had breast cancer that required a mastectomy.  Whew!!

Believe it or not, most of the time, I'm quite a positive person.  I've really been reading a good bit about the law of attraction & trying to apply it to my life.  When I read about eft, I thought it could help me.  But this cts pain is a read ***!

I've been on disabiltiy now for 13 years, so I don't do a lot that requires lots of repetitive hand movements, so the cts really caught me off-guard.

Anybody got any ideas to help?  PLEASE??

    Thanks,

    debskatz

    Hello,

Welcome to the world of EFT!!! You have already had some success--yay!

What were you tapping on that brought the carpel tunnel syndrome on again? What were the emotions? Or was it the repetitive hand movements that brought it on? If it is repetitive hand movements, then there is something else that you might want to try: touching the point and inhaling and exhaling deeply...

    Gratefully yours,

    JoAnn

Re: New with eft & having difficulty

When looking for issues I've found that by prompting the client as follows has proven quite effective for me as a starting point, when no obvious emotional starting point is present.

Fear, anger, guilt - (what I call the big three). I ask the client to put these in order as they apply to the client. Then by following the natural path of questioning usually at least one or two issues, though not generally core issues, will come up.

As the energy begins moving and the layers begin to surface, each issue and as many aspects as can be identified are brought down to a zero. In this case it sounds like your cts is a good indicator, as the pain from tapping is 'right there'. As JoeAnn offered, just touching or holding the points as you breathe and preferably saying the statements aloud should be very effective.

You could also try tapping in front of a mirror - some people report amazing resuilts doing this, when they previously felt  'stuck'. Another option is to hold and focus on a picture of yourself, perhaps when you were young and less burdened with the physical manifestations you list. Your body does remember being healthy and whole and you can regain that feeling, whichg can lead to healing.

You may also want to try some meredian foot work - try rolling a ball of some sort underneath your feet. This is often particularly effective with individuals new to EFT. small or large, hard or soft are a matter of personal preference, but it usually feels great and the more time you spend feeling good the better off you will be, as you are probably aware.

Some statements that come to mind follow - use what resonates with you and leave the rest...

ET I am new to EFT, I am willing to see how it works for me, and I do deeply and completly love honor and accept, and forgive myself as I am today.

ET I believe that I cannot do EFT with out my cts hurting me so, I deeply and completely love honor accept and forgive myself, as I am today.

ET the cts really caught me off-guard, I trust it will be OK, and I do Love honor accept and forgive myself as I am today.

I suggest that you research PR on the emofree site and in the forums, and see if it sounds like sometrhing that applies to you, just in case.

Also deservedness/worthiness issues come to mind, in that you may not feel that you are worthy of or deserving of a healthy happy body.

You could also address the body directly with EFT, asking what it is trying to tell you. With the multitude of physical issues you have created, its apparent that there is something going on that you are not seeing.

I hope you find this post helpful, feel free to contact me or ask any questions here.

    Hi JoAnn & Phil,

Thank you for replying to my post & for the helpful suggestions.  I do very much appreciate it.

I wanted to address something Phil said in his post that, while I understand that he did not mean for it to do so, ticked me off somewhat.  It was when he said, "With the multitude of physical issues you have created."  I believe you are refering to the Law of Attraction and I do understand & believe that.  At the same time, this is a genetic disease, I had no say so in that.  So it did anger me somewhat for Phil to indicate that I had brought all of this on myself.

And yet, as I have been reading a good bit on Law of Attraction, I've also been taking a look at myself & the environment I grew up in.  My mother has a narcissistic personality and she has delibrately garnered attention as long as I can remember with her various illnesses.  She has a great deal that is truly wrong with her (fighting cancer for the 4th or 5th time, I can't remember; triple bypass, a lot of damage from radiation from years ago, fibromyalgia, others) & yet she insists on having whatever she can come up with.  She does not have my disease, I got that from my father's side of the family, but she has had some of the same things I've had, often not long after I've had it.  For instance, just a couple of weeks ago, I was having trouble with RLS (restless legs syndrome).  As I talk to her nearly every day, I would tell her about it.  And sure enough, she came up with the same thing.  I ignored her complaint, & she didn't have it again.  She did the same thing with pancreatitis, which took a lot of will on her part to actually get that.  And others.

I have stopped giving her a lot of sympathy a long time ago as I noticed that it only encouraged her.  But she started all this when I was a young child.  And I can remember her taking us kids to the doctor several times just for a cold and that he got really aggravated at her.

I do try to ignore as much as possible my symptoms.  No one would ever know by looking at me or watching me that I have anything wrong with me.

But I had been a very athletic person.  Due to this disease, my muscles developed much more than the average female.  I was as strong as an average man & was used to doing anything physically that I wanted to do.  I loved that & to think that I delibratedly gave that up is just not acceptable to me.

I have a degree in Biology & definately tend to view problems from a more scientific view.  So what of this disease is purely genetic & how much did I bring on myself?  I just cannot say.

But I do believe that more than the Law of Attraction is at work in this universe.  Otherwise, no one would be born with genetic problems.

Re: New with eft & having difficulty

    Hi Debskatz;

I had a feeling that when I used that phrase, 'you have created' that it would get your attention. An important step along the path to peace is coming to the understanding that only we are responsible for our life condition - no one and nothing else. There are no victims, only co-creators. We create our lives - thats what we do - as creators - we can do it consciously, or create by default, not realizing that ONLY we are responsible for our lives and what they are. If you are living any experience, you have choosen it from a vibrational standpoint and have manifested the results into your physical experience. Nothing can come into our physical experience that we are not a vibrational match to.

I realize that this is a large concept to grasp, but now the seed is planted and your 'you' recognizes the truth of this, and you can choose to move toward a greater understanding of this or you can continue to resist it - that is your choice. But you may want to at least 'try on' this perspective if you can - and see how it feels. The larger part of you knows this is Truth - can you feel that?

The phrase that triggered your emotional reaction is the doorway to your opportunity for growth. Here is a quote I think you may find helpful.

Discovering how to approach a teacher-trigger is one of the most empowering and life transforming gifts you can give yourself.  You see, all the beliefs, ideas and judgments that cause you to get angry, sad or simply freak out are doorways to the Divine.  Each upsetting thought is only keeping you from experiencing each moment as sacred because you are not truly welcoming it and open to letting in the expansive lesson it has to teach you. Everything is pointing you back inside to seeing your Divine Nature because the Divine Source is within everything!  How could it be otherwise?  The mind may think the opposite, yet the truth is that the Universe ultimately wants you to experie nce yourself as outrageous love, radical inner peace and inspired creativity!  By allowing yourself to really feel your triggered feelings you can honestly explore that exquisite divine energy that within and beneath this now moment.  The day you devote your life to revealing this powerful truth, you will start looking forward to the next time that someone triggers you.

Each time someone makes you angry tell them, "Thank you".  You are not thanking them for that mean thing they did or said, you're giving them appreciation for pointing you inside to see where YOU still need to grow.  Whenever you send gratitude you stop buying into that enticing story that makes you a victim in your life,  and you slowly unravel the illusion of your trigger and stop your ego from believing it to be true.  Through gratitude you will see that deep deep down on a soul level, you signed up for this person to awaken you in this lifetime.  You will remember that they have always been a friend on your side, here to wake you up out of your suffering.  With appreciation, nobody can have power over you.

-From 'Your Biggest trigger is your Best teacher'

by Jafree Ozwald and Margot Zaher  Tap on specfic items that trigger you. Even Though someone said I created my physical condition, and that ticked me off, I deeply and completely love and accept myself anyway. Even though  I suppose it's possible that I could have created (this condition) I love and respect myself anyway. I can't believe I created (this condition)I'm willing to consider I may have caused these (these conditions) by my thoughtsThere is no way I would have created these conditionsI blame my genes for my condition. It's all their fault. It was beyond my control As you recognize limiting beliefs, you can use EFT to clear them.I'm not a physician, but please don't ignore your symptoms, - pay attention. They are your bodies way of telling you to pay attention - something needs attention here. While I fully understand the percieved 'need' to ignore one's physical symptoms in order to function on a daily basis, it would be worth your while to take some time to tune into your body and ask what it is trying to tell you. A professional EFT or other meredian energy practitioner may be helpful in discovering some possible paths you may want to consider. As to genetic pre-disposition to a particular disease, research ancestral memory and ancestral clearing. Rebecca Marina does a lot in this area, as well as many other people. Initially I found the concept a bit of a stretch as well, but then various evidence came to my attention to where I'm beginning to understand the concept and therefor cannot say 'that couldn't work, it doesn't make sense'. EFT plays an important part in getting in touch with this part of ones self, and I've found compelling evidence that the concept may well be sound. Clearing on ALL levels including to one's very DNA which in turn is a continuum of our ancestors genes may indeed have merit.BlessingsPhil

Re: New with eft & having difficulty

WOW!!! You and your mom are fighting for the same attention and in whatever way you can get it you will take it. Rather than her giving you the attention that you needed as a young girl growing up, instead she was focused on her self and wanting you and everyone else around her to be focused again on her. A sense of competition grew and as you saw growing up, it was her illnesses that gave her that edge to getting attention so you have taken that on inside your self. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that you necessarily want this on the outside, meaning from a logical, conscious view but your subconscious simply absorbs everything it is shown and given without doubt or question and this is exactly what yours has done. You have identified with your family and their history of illnesses and conditions and with the ways in which to gain importance and attention. It has been the only teacher and environment you have had and therefore it accepts this behavior and manifestation as completely real and normal on all levels. There is also alot of anger there to be dealt with. Within that anger is also hurt and sadness among other emotions and interpreted wording. You speak to genetics. One of the reason for genetics is acceptance. You grow up hearing and then saying and fearing that it will become your reality and then accept it on some level as inevitable and then manifestation occurs. Self healing done with commitment and true desire has rid one's self from many a conditions and dis-eases of the body ... mental, emotional, physical and spiritual. What I would suggest is you work on the secondary gain that is here and been serving you for life. I would also suggest you work on ridding your habit pattern of contacting your mother to see if you can change her way of acting and reacting to whatever ailment you bring up in the conversation. You already know through years of conversation that she is going to take on whatever illness you speak of so there is no more need for you to continue to prove your point. Let it go! This has become an obsession with you and it's only doing you more harm. I've given you ALOT of places to go and in these there are many others and all the aspects that surround them. I trust that this will guide you and I'd be interested to hear of your progress or thoughts about what I have presented here for you and your healing journey. Peace, Kathleen

Re: New with eft & having difficulty

Wow, my post was written so long ago, I didn't think anyone would pick it up again.  But I'm glad because I can give an update.  First of all, I want to thank Phil for his last comments as they really made me think, find more info I needed & really search myself.  And Kathleen, I agree with a lot of things that you said.  A couple of things I want to clear up.  We had NO idea that we had a genetic disease growing up.  I started having problems with my period when I was 18 (in 1979), then other symptoms showed up.  I went to the Mayo Clinic off & on the entire year of 1990 & they finally told me that they were clueless.  Doctors at UAB (University of Alabama in Birmingham) hospital finally diagnosed it in 1991.  And we knew nothing of the symptoms because nobody knew what the heck it was.

However, I believe that I chose all of my circumstances before I was born in this body.  I chose to experience life from this perspective.  And I can see where I chose the symptoms that manifested after I got here.

I don't talk to my mother as much any more & I no longer talk with her about the specifics of any problem I have.  I always tell her I'm feeling fine & that is almost always the case!

I have decided that eft is not for me.  At least, not to a great extent.  I have read 2 P'taah books and they have been extremely helpful.  In reading them, I truly had several "A Ha" moments because it was like remembering something I already knew & had just forgotten.  Anyway, I find that it works better for me.

Thank you all for your caring, thoughtfulness & concern.  I truly appreciate it.

    Deb :>)
