Emotional Freedom Techniques
Emotional Freedom - Physical Freedom - Performance Freedom
It often works where nothing else will

EFT was originally developed to reduce the therapy process from months/years down to minutes/hours. As emotional problems faded, both physical health and personal performance improved (often dramatically). As a result, EFT is spreading quickly among the healing community. It is an emotional version of acupressure wherein certain meridian release points are gently stimulated by tapping on them with the fingertips.

  • Love and the Seeing Eye Cat

Here's an extraordinary photo & message by Terry Burns of Middleburg, Pennsylvania, about love and dedication.  It shows a cat that helps a blind and deaf dog.  Very moving.

Cashew, my 14 year old yellow Lab, is blind and deaf.  Her best friend is Libby, 7, her seeing eye cat.  Libby steers Cashew away from obstacles and leads her to her food.  Every night she sleeps next to her.  The only time they're apart is when we take Cashew out for a walk.  Without this cat, we know Cashew would be lost and very, very lonely indeed.  It's amazing but true: This is one animal who knows what needs to be done and does it day in and day out for her friend.

  • A most important lesson

Sometimes we are so caught up in the everyday pursuits of life that we walk right by the loveliness that surrounds us.  All too often we take people for granted and that is a mistake.  This parable points to a lesson that we may have forgotten.

    A Most Important Lesson

During my second month of nursing school, our professor gave us a pop quiz. I was a conscientious student and had breezed through the questions, until I read the last one: "What is the first name of the woman who cleans the school?" Surely, this was some kind of joke.

I had seen the cleaning woman several times. She was tall, dark-haired and in her 50s, but how would I know her name? I handed in my paper, leaving the last question blank.

Just before class ended, one student asked if the last question would count toward our quiz grade. "Absolutely," said the professor. "In your careers, you will meet many people. All are significant. They deserve your attention and care, even if all you do is smile and say 'hello'."

I've never forgotten that lesson. I also learned her name was Dorothy.

  • A Gift of Gentleness

One of EFT's main goals is to help people achieve personal peace.  As we reduce the angers, fears and traumas of the past, our physical ailments fade and we spend more time in a loving space. This brings about wondrous shifts that can transform everything around us.  Below is a delightful parable that provides glowing evidence of these possibilities.

    A Gift of Gentleness

Once upon a time, a church had fallen upon hard times. Only five members were left: the pastor and four others, all over 60 years old.

In the mountains near the church there lived a retired Bishop. It occurred to the pastor to ask the Bishop if he could offer any advice that might save the church. The pastor and the Bishop spoke at length, but when asked for advice, the Bishop simply responded by saying, "I have no advice to give. The only thing I can tell you is that the Messiah is one of you."

The pastor, returning to the church, told the church members what the Bishop had said. In the months that followed, the old church members pondered the words of the Bishop. "The Messiah is one of us?" they each asked themselves.

As they thought about this possibility, they all began to treat each other with extraordinary respect and gentleness on the off chance that one among them might be the Messiah. And on the off, off chance that each member himself might be the Messiah, they also began to treat themselves with extraordinary care.

As time went by, people visiting the church noticed the aura of respect and gentle kindness that surrounded the five old members of the small church. Hardly knowing why, more people began to come back to the church. They began to bring their friends, and their friends brought more friends. Within a few years, the small church had once again become a thriving church, thanks to the Bishop's gift.

  • A Thanksgiving Thanks to Tina

Daddys sometimes get unique opportunities to express love for their children.  Today is one of those times.

Over this Thanksgiving Holiday, please join me in giving hugs and gratitude to my daughter, Tina, who is the unsung hero propelling EFT's growth.  She is behind the scenes taking care of our orders, inventory and the endless list of details that go with our sizeable website and newsletter.

If you experience EFT as running smoothly, please know it is because Tina takes care of all the underlying challenges seamlessly.

If you sense a smile and presence of love in our communications with you, it is because of Tina's persistent smile and the loving way she smoothes out the wrinkles of our day to day mission.

If you see EFT as moving forward and being a leader in the shifting health paradigm, it is because the weighty busywork ballast that slows down growth is judiciously being handled by Tina.

If you have enjoyed our new brochures, letterheads, business cards, press kits and the like, please know that Tina did them all.

Within EFT, you may think you are communicating with me but in reality we are both attending to your needs.

Tina is my first born and, although she is a grown woman now, I still see her as that spirited, curious, little red-headed toddler.  Maybe that's why, in private, I still call her Teenie.  We have many things to be thankful for during these Holidays and I, for sure, put Teenie at the top.

Won't you join me?  Her email address is tina@emofree.com if you care to send her your gratitude.

    Love, Gary (Dad)

PS:  Teenie doesn't know I am sending this.  She will read it about the time you do.

  • The Menacing Mathematics of Multiple Meds

There's something scary about drugs that concerns a growing number of physicians and should wobble the knees of every patient on the planet.  It's obvious to any mathematician but somehow has escaped the general scrutiny of the health industry.

It has to do with combining meds.

Ever since I can remember I have been fed the perception that drugs are governmentally evaluated and thus are safe if taken under the guidance of competent physicians.  However, even if we accept the presumed safety for the ingestion of one drug, we must ask ourselves how might that safety change if we take multiple drugs?

For safety assurances, proper testing should be done for every drug combination we are advised to take.  If we take Prozac and Tylenol, for example, we should be presented with all the possible benefits and consequences before allowing these two foreign substances to mix with the chemicals our bodies already create.  Same thing goes for combining Paxil with Viagra or Interferon with Lipitor.

The list of possible problems here is monstrously long because there are a b'zillion drugs and mega b'zillions of combinations.  Nonetheless, I've never seen or heard of any studies that test any of these combinations ... have you?

Thus, if you take two drugs, the odds of their combination having been adequately tested for safety are skimpy at best.  But if you take 3 or more drugs the danger possibilities multiply even faster.

Here's how the mathematics work: If you take 3 drugs then adequate safety testing of the various combinations require 7 separate tests.  If you take 4 drugs the combinations require 25 separate tests.  If you take 5 drugs it amounts to 121 tests.  If you take 10 drugs the number of required safety tests total 362,881.

The conclusion here should be obvious.  Namely, there is questionable safety testing if you take 2 drugs and nominal, if any, safety testing if you take 3.  Beyond that you are clearly into the land of, "I have no idea what these combinations of drugs will do."

To me, this tosses our dedicated docs into a tenuous position.  They have patients with problems who aren't willing to exercise, eat right, do EFT for emotional issues (http://www.emofree.comor much of anything else to help their own health.  Instead, the patients hope the physicians will produce a magic pill (or pills) to make their problems go away.

I have met many patients who are on several drugs and take some drugs to counteract the effects of other drugs.  As a non-physician I look at this with a shudder.  These folks are being fed chemical cocktails with little or no safety testing behind the combinations. Maybe I need some help with my perceptions here but, to me, they are playing drug roulette.

I don't know if lawyers have picked up on the simple, but compelling, math here.  But I do know that I wouldn't want to be a doctor in court facing these clear facts.

In the 15+ years I have been involved in the health field, I have had the good fortune to count many physicians as my personal friends.  With few exceptions, they agree that it is our lifestyles, diets and emotional stresses that cause most of our health problems ... and ... the vast majority of these problems would vanish if people would live common sense lives.  Yet patients repeatedly abuse their bodies and ask for more and more "miracle drugs" as the convenient solution.  I don't envy the docs at all as I often hear them complain that this is a highway to NobodyWinsVille.

Maybe what we really need are good salespeople to persuade folks to take care of themselves.  I suspect that, if truly persuasive, they would do more good than the ocean of drugs at our disposal.

    Love, Gary

  • When Was The Last Time You Gave Away A Precious Stone?

There is much magic in the parable below.  Without specifically saying so, it emphasizes the true rewards for having attained Personal Peace.

"There was once a wise woman traveling in the mountains who found a precious stone in a stream. The next day she met another traveler who was hungry, and she opened her bag to share her food. The hungry traveler saw the precious stone and asked if she might give it to him. She did so without hesitation. The traveler left, rejoicing in his good fortune. He knew the stone was worth enough to give him security for a lifetime. But only a few days later he came back to return the stone to the woman who had given it to him.

"I've been thinking," he said, "I know how valuable the stone is, but I'm giving it back in the hope that you can give me something even more precious. I want you to give me what you have within you that enabled you to give me the stone."

  • The solution to all the world's problems

    Now that's a grandiose title, isn't it?

Fortunately, there IS a solution to the world's problems.  Poverty, war, disease, crime and the like can all disappear into nothingness.  The solution does not involve prisons, bombs, laws and politics for those methods have, for centuries, given only the illusions of temporary fixes.

Interestingly, this true solution is no secret.  It has occurred to almost everyone.  It is intuitive and we have a "knowing" about it.  Yet few of us take the appropriate action because hardly any of us believe in the true power of our own abilities.  That includes me ... but I'm getting there.

The solution that we already "know" about involves a mindset and tends to start, something like this ... "If only everyone had perfect personal peace within ... if only everyone was aligned with their spiritual perfection ... if only there were no insecurities nor needs to "be better than" ... if only love replaced greed ... THEN we would find joy in each other, cooperation would replace judgement and all the world's problems would start to fade."

But then we read of the ongoing tragedies in the newspaper and see that sort of strife and tension mirrored in our families and workplaces.  We see this negative "reality" all around us and give up on our fantasies of peace and love.  "How impossible", we think, "Just look at how thoroughly ingrained this mess is throughout the world.  How could we EVER unravel this intricate ball of twine?"

So, even though we know it is wrong, we continue fruitlessly with our prisons, bombs, laws and politics.

Yet the possibilities for achieving that delicious spiritual awareness are very real.  We need only start with that well accepted phrase passed down through the ages that says ... "You are what you think."  From there we can step up to the basic truth that rings throughout my series on The Palace of Possibilities that says ...

"Your consistent thoughts become your reality." (for those familiar with it, this is a simplified synopsis of the Law of Attraction).

To launch us in the proper direction, we need only combine this simple truth with the startling findings from Quantum Physics that (1) we are immersed in a sea of infinite possibilities (God?) and (2) our thoughts are the means by which we travel within that sea.  This literally means that we can be, do or have ANYTHING we want.

Depending on your current beliefs, that statement could be tough to swallow.  Maybe you believe it is possible to change your thinking and thus make more money, achieve an hourglass figure and cure a disease.  But do you believe that you can live a life of non-stop joy ... or ... transport yourself over thousands of miles without the use of planes, trains or automobiles?

See, there are always limits to our thinking.  What is fascinating, though, is that our "limits" keep expanding as we approach them.  For example, earning $100,000 per year may seem impossible for someone earning $30,000.  They can't see that far ahead.  However, they can see $40,000 and, once achieved, they can then see $50,000 ... and then $80,000 ... and then $150,000 ... and beyond.  After awhile, even Donald Trump seems small.  Actually, compared to Bill Gates, he is small.  But you get the idea.  Our "limits" are more dependent on our thinking than on outside "barriers."

Expand this idea so that everyone shares in the "sea of infinite possibilities" and we will make obsolete the need for prisons, bombs, laws and politics to solve world problems.  For if everyone is loaded up with all the possibilities they can handle, then what need is there for poverty, war, disease and the like?

So how do we achieve these mental states and thus create a world of joyous people?  Do we just practice positive thinking?  Well, that's a start.  However, positive thinking like, "I am always joyous and see nothing but the beauty in this world" is a real challenge to do if we have competing thoughts like, "But I hate that @#$%^ who abused me as a child."

These competing thoughts are rampant in this world and they often become our dominant thoughts that, in turn "become our reality."  They permeate our financial, social and health circumstances and stop us at every turn.  They are the main deterrent to realizing our possibilities.

Fortunately, EFT can collapse all of them so that each becomes "just another thought."  With the competition out of the way we can now soar through The Palace of Possibilities with ease.

Will this solve the world's problems this week?  Probably not.  But this effort starts with each of us individually.  And as the benefits become apparent to others they will follow.  And as the wave continues to other parts of the world, our seemingly insurmountable problems will eventually fade.

Nice idea, don't you think?  But does it seem too grandiose?  Too idealistic?  Well, use it for yourself.  Expand your possibilities.  Expand your joy and then recognize that everyone can do this.  Then notice how the idealistic label changes to "possible" and then to "realistic" and, finally, to the only true solution.

    Joy, Gary

  • Borrowing Benefits - A new kind of Reality TV Program

Pardon my commercial but the EFT Borrowing Benefits DVD set has produced spectacular results and there is no other way to properly champion its benefits then to come right out and say it.  Not only is it highly therapeutic, it's entertainment value parallels that of most popular TV programs.

So....Instead of subjecting yourself to the non-stop negativity of CSI or the 6 o'clock news, try our stimulating EFT Borrowing Benefits DVD set.

Just pop one of the discs into your DVD player, choose a personal specific issue and tap along with one of the entertaining sessions on your screen.  When I say entertaining, I mean you will experience humor, inspiration, intrigue, mystery and a whole gamut of emotional wonderments that only the best of the Reality TV programs can match.

It's a  very simple process and, properly done, the success rate approaches 100%.  Thus you can laugh, cry and be inspired while conveniently tossing your emotional ballast.  What TV program can match that?

Here's what professional nurse and seasoned EFT'er Karen Ledger says about it.

I recently spent about 6 hours with Gary Craig's wonderful set of DVDs known as The Borrowing Benefits Series. I have taught EFT for 10 years and have tapped along with hundreds of clients in my private practice and thought I had lots of benefits and healed almost every issue I knew of.

But did I find a Gold Mine when I decided to watch the Borrowing Benefits DVDs. The idea is to pick issues you want to work on, identify some old "movies" from your past, of events you wished hadn't happened and then tap along with some of the full demo cases Gary is working on.

When I started I didn't have a specific movie in mind, but the first case immediately brought up some issues and I got right into it. I was truly amazed at the power of this process and the deep healing I did on issues that I hadn't even realized were so influential. I cried, raged and laughed my way through the demos - even one of Gary being very honest and vulnerable working on his own Spiritual issues!

Advantages for newcomers and lay persons:

    • After some simple instructions you can dive right in and begin collapsing your issues.  Relief is usually immediate.
    • No need to formally learn EFT.  Results can be achieved by someone with no understanding of EFT whatsoever.  You may wish to formally learn EFT later if you are a professional or a serious student and wish to take EFT to even higher levels.
    • These videos are capable of very deep work and have collapsed many, many issues that conventional techniques couldn't touch.
    • They are Universally Useful.  Each of them is capable of addressing thousands of different issues.
    • They are re-useable.  Pick out your favorite sessions and use them over and over again for as many issues as you wish.
    • Each video is engaging and entertaining.
    • You can go even further with the aid of a proficient, highly skilled EFT practitioner.

Advantages for professionals and serious students:

    • In addition to the above, over 30 different creative approaches and reframes are displayed for your study.  Adopting them is almost certain to enhance your practice.
    • The videos often serve to uncover hidden issues.  Thus loaning copies of these videos to your clients for homework will often result in their bringing back core issues for quality work.  This substantially reduces the time necessary to do "detective work."
    • You can effectively use these videos in your own Borrowing Benefits workshops.  They are ready made for this and highly efficient.

    Contents of the videos:

    • Instructions
    • Stacey: Money blocks
    • Roger & Mary: Couples counseling
    • Kim: Molested at age 6
    • Betty: Putting herself forward--"Mr. Smythe dealt me a mortal blow"
    • Gary: Spiritual growth
    • LaVern: Rejection--"I don't want to dance!!"
    • Kathy: Fear and dread of making presentations to unknown people.
    • Andy: "I could never do anything right."
    • Patricia: Social discomfort & "Momma didn't want me"
    • Yvette: Overweight & "I don't want to be controlled"
    • Lucille: Claustrophobia and related items
    • Tam: Repressed memory--childhood school trauma
    • Sarah: Alcoholic mother & "I must fix the world"

Also:  Borrowing Benefits works whether or not your issues match the issues on the videos.  In fact, it is often preferable that they don't match.

    Hugs, Gary

  • The Hot Air Balloon and The Palace of Possibilities

This may not be the most attractive thing I've ever asked you to do but I would like you to think of yourself as a hot air balloon.  I know you won't make the centerfold of a magazine with that image but it DOES have some appeal.  Why? Because this hot air balloon is filled with the potential to roam the skies in complete freedom.  It is your potential ... your joy ... your success ... your life.

Also consider that you aren't up in the skies yet.  Instead, you are tied to the ground by your emotional ropes ... the doubts, insecurities, angers, traumas, fears and the like that keep us unnecessarily bound to our earthly "comfort zones."  We can cut those ropes, however, and that is where EFT comes in.

As any seasoned EFT'er will tell you, it is a superb "emotional rope cutter" and has set many free to reach new levels.  Our website is filled with so many examples of this that EFT should be a candidate for Time Magazine's "Person of the Year."  It may have already done as much for humanity as many of the previous recipients.

So, master this extraordinary process and join all those free folks in the clouds.  The air is fresher up here and it is much easier to breathe.  There's joy here and life has much more juice in it.

But with all this emotional freedom (and resultant physical healing) where does one go while floating in the blue yonder?  Do you have a goal?  A purpose?  Or is it just simply enough to be free?

What would you like to do with your freedom?  Magnify your bank account?  Be a famous actor?  Develop a sexy figure?  These, and more, are do-able when you combine EFT's freedom with The Palace of Possibilities.  This is a combo that, properly applied, can take you anywhere in the sky you wish.

I have written a Palace of Possibilities series on our website that gives you the details.  The essence of it is that ... "Your consistent thoughts become your reality."  This fundamental truth, also known as The Law of Attraction, insures that your properly focused thoughts show up in your life.

This is a monumental concept that is understood by many but consciously acted upon by very few.  The idea is always in operation ... it is even even working right now as you read this.  Your consistent thoughts are shaping your future.

However, the thoughts we harbor tend to be mixed and thus they don't often aim us in focused directions.  And even when we do consciously focus our thoughts on something we desire, that focus is often on what we are lacking instead of what we want e.g. although we desire more money, we tend to focus on our lack of it.  That is why "lack of it" tends to show up in many lives.

Also, if we create an affirmation that says, "I earn easily and consistently a million dollars a year", we are likely to have negative "tail enders" that may say...

    • "But you have to work too hard to make that much money..."
    • "But your friends will no longer like you if you are rich...."
    • "Only greedy people make that much money..."

These tail enders become the true focus and thus become the "consistent thoughts that become our reality."  You need only to look at your current financial, relationship and health circumstances to know that this is true.

We create our reality with our thoughts and the combo of the Hot Air Balloon and The Palace of Possibilities can adjust those thoughts and move us in new directions.  We can not only cut our emotional ropes (tail enders) but we can now aim our freedom focus wherever we want.

The outside world isn't "doing it to us."  Rather, it is our own "inside job" that is shaping our lives.  And with our new tools, we are in control of our own directions.

    See you in the skies.

    Love, Gary

  • A staggering idea -- Bringing Personal Peace to someone 3,000 miles away

Here's an EFT case that produced major benefits for two people ... even though only one of them was present.  It involves creative applications of EFT as well as a fascinating version of surrogate healing.  The implications are staggering.

Betty was like a dormant rosebud whose flower remained unopened for years.  This bright, attractive, 40ish lady had many inspiring dreams.  However, her critical mother put a lid on every one of them by saying things like...

"Why on earth would you want to do that?"
"Only lazy people go down that road?"
"Can't you find something more responsible to do?

Betty and I aimed EFT at her response to this torrent of disapprovals and did, indeed, make progress.  However, her family dynamics were such that, when she returned home, mother would still be frequently "in her face" with repeated put downs.  This, of course, would dilute our work and thus I suggested another EFT avenue.

"Why don't we do a session where you become your mother?", I said.  "That way you can gain some insights into your mother's disposition ... AND ... some of her insecurities, angers and other emotions might be resolved surrogately.  Who knows, maybe she will actually develop some softer behaviors toward your pursuits."

Betty agreed and so she sat in a different chair and I applied EFT to her as though she was her own mother.  I explored areas such as mother's...

    Childhood
    Beliefs
    Rejections
    Limits
    And so on.

We spent an hour doing EFT on these issues and, as a result, Betty gained a deeper understanding of her mother's need to belittle her.  Betty's demeanor softened and she radiated a more peaceful inner being.

This is always delightful to behold, of course.  But how would this affect mother?  After all, mother was 3,000 miles away and had no idea this session was occurring.  Could this form of surrogate work actually relieve some of mother's own issues so that a softer, more forgiving presence would be hers to enjoy?

The answer came 3 months later when I spoke with Betty again.  As it turns out, mother stopped belittling Betty instantly and, instead, would ask her gentle, supporting questions about her pursuits.  In Betty's terms, "It was a complete flip and the only thing that could explain it was our surrogate session."

All we did was make some logical presumptions about mother's unnecessary emotional burden and applied EFT to them.  We also borrowed from our well established experience with surrogate EFT (tapping for someone else) and the result was a greatly relieved and socially transformed mother.  Betty's life was improved as well.

I've seen this type of result before but thought this time I would beat the drum a bit for it.  The potential here is enormous.  It offers an opportunity to bring peace to others across vast distances.  We could do this for loved ones in other parts of the world; for friends who may be in distress; for world leaders to soften their stance on war; for athletes who need to sharpen their performance while on the field; for trauma victims; for our children while they are at school and so on.

    Oh my!

I hope this hits you where it counts.  How much good could you do with this idea? How much suffering could you end?  How many lives could you shift forever?

    Peace, Gary

PS:  An often asked question is "Do I need permission to do this for someone else?"  That's a personal choice, of course, but I suggest that permission isn't necessary.  Reasons are given on our website in my article entitled, Can we do EFT surrogately or through intention? If so, do we need permission?

  • How to have World Peace

Peace is easy ... it is a mindset.

War is easy too ... and it is also a mindset.  It comes from fear and resentment about the actions of others.  It is easy to blame our political leaders for wars and all their atrocities.  After all, that is where the ultimate decisions appear to lie.

But ultimately you and I must take responsibility for our collective parts in all of this.  We Americans are not as peaceful as we like to think.  Look around you at the crime, drugs, domestic violence and the gimme-gimme attitude that pervades our culture.  Where is the true peace?  Where is the sense of security and love that we long for so dearly?

Does Personal Peace really come from more money?  Better relationships?  Bigger homes?  Or is it an "inside job" of our own making?  Collectively, we are restless and continue to strive for "more" in the vain attempt to bring us "peace of mind."  Is it any wonder that this mindset shows up in the decisions of our political leaders?

But suppose we were givers rather than getters.  Wouldn't we then exchange love instead of venom?  And what possible purpose would war serve if we all had such a giving, peaceful mindset?   Interestingly, wars are often fought by unpeaceful people in the name of peace ... clearly one of the silliest concepts mankind has ever created.

When we have true Personal Peace, our goal becomes one of spreading that mindset everywhere.  This is where a smile, a helping hand and a loving gesture become the centerpiece of our lives instead of frivolous things like high fashion clothing, cosmetics and computer games.  Wouldn't a world filled with love like this be one where war is meaningless?

So, how can this "idealistic" goal be accomplished?

We could, of course, do our usual thing of fruitlessly passing yet more laws that require peace ... OR ... we could recognize that World Peace starts with Personal Peace and simply take responsibility to generate it on our own.  That's where it must start ... on the individual level ... by you and me.  People with Personal Peace do not go to war.

Fortunately, we now have a tool to do this.  EFT's ability to knock down fears, angers and traumas are unsurpassed in history.  The more we remove these barriers to love the closer we come to the Personal Peace that we all seek.  It is a process, of course, and will take some time.  But the personal rewards are immense and, as these possibilities spread throughout the world, the needs for war will disappear.

Peace is easy ... it is a mindset.

    Love, Gary

  • To Grace through Gratitude

I woke up this morning in a state of Gratitude. An exquisite experience.

In this state the world works in wondrous ways. Joy and Optimism abound and problems fade in favor of opportunities.  My day, instead of being a long list of “things to do,” evolved into a joyous stream of "Progress Possibilities."  The list was the same as always, of course, but my attitude shifted it from work to play.

The main purpose of EFT is to pave the way towards Love’s Presence (i.e. Grace).  Our physical and emotional wounds tend to distract us from this spiritual birthright and, as EFT helps send them away, we find ourselves more in alignment with Source.

It is well known that our body chemistry makes major changes as our thoughts shift between positive and negative states.  These natural chemicals have major impact on our health, happiness and longevity.  This is so important that modern Quantum Physicists would argue that the quality of our thoughts has EVERYTHING to do with the quality of our lives.  Positive thoughts take us in positive directions.  Negative thoughts keep us where we are or move us further down the hole.

But can we just turn a switch and consistently generate Grace through practicing Gratitude?  For a few people … perhaps.  But most of us have competing thoughts that get in the way.  That’s because we have been endlessly conditioned by the media and society about how this world is such a struggle. Can we really expect to inject an occasional thought of Gratitude and have it neutralize all that competition?

Well ... that’s a nice idea … but I question its practicality.  It’s like trying to cover a polluted lake with a hand towel.

But there is a way to do it.

We can always start with one thought of Gratitude.  That should be easy.  Just think of something for which you are thankful.  If nothing else, try your toothbrush.  It does its essential job every time you use it and was brought to you through the efforts of factory workers and retail stores.  Where would you be without it?  Then go on to your shoes … and the book you just read  … and on to the people in your life.  The more we do this the larger becomes the hand towel.

Despite our good intentions, our competing thoughts (from the polluted lake) will eventually intrude into this Gratitude process.  They may say something like “This Gratitude thing is silly” or they may present with us a series of “Yes-buts” designed to invalidate our efforts.  These are the barriers to Gratitude.  Fortunately, they can be handled nicely with EFT.

So write them down ... one by one ... and use EFT to reduce their impact.  Over time the lake will shrink and our hand towel of Gratitude will expand to cover it.  Then Gratitude becomes our constant companion and the resulting Grace will bring us health, happiness and longevity.

    A fair trade, I think.

    Gratitude, Gary

  • Maybe-ology: A new name for The Healing Sciences?

My training as a Stanford Engineer taught me to distrust the Healing Sciences.  In fact, they shouldn't be called sciences at all.  Maybe-ology is a much better name.  Here are the reasons...

First, engineering is a "hard science" that relies on physical Laws such as the Laws of Physics, Ohm's Law, the Law of Gravity and so on.  From these highly predictable Laws we reliably make bridges, computers and automobiles.  That's good.  Kudos to Hard Science!

But the Healing Sciences are "soft sciences" where little, if anything, is reliable.  Drugs and surgeries, for example, don't always work and, when they do, the relief varies from person to person (sometimes with disastrous consequences).  Would you drive over a bridge that was constructed using this iffy science?

In addition, most psychotherapies (except EFT) often take forever to get very little done and other healing methods tend to provide only temporary relief.  The end result of all this can be a long term, expensive pursuit with unpredictable results.

To me, that's not science.  Rather, it's a study in probablilties and should be properly re-labeled as Maybe-ology.  That way we won't associate the healing sciences with the hard sciences and thus expect more from them than is possible.

This is not a complaint, by the way.  It's just a statement of what is.  Hard science and soft science are not really the same and the labels should be changed so they are not confused.  That's all.

EFT belongs in the soft science category, even though it is finally bringing a degree of reliability to the field.  It still doesn't match up to the reliability of the Law of Gravity but it DOES create results where only "maybe's" existed before.

  • Medicine's Major Miss -- The Elephant in the Healing Zoo

Could it be that Medicine has just flat out missed a major cause of disease?

Is it possible that this heavily financed Elephant in the Healing Zoo has been chasing chemical monkeys while a principle cause of disease (emotions) has been purring in its lap for decades?

As an outsider to the medical field I feel a bit strange writing this.  How does a mere Stanford engineer get off questioning the very foundation of one of the world's largest institutions?

On the other hand, I merely point out the obvious.  So let me say it...

Unhealthy emotions such as anger, fear and trauma are a major drain on our body's immune system and thus show up physically as disease.

How simple ... and it is intuitively obvious.  Just about everyone knows this at some level within themselves.  Don't you know, for example, that retaining anger over a long period of time "eats away at your system" and causes blood pressure problems, stomach problems, heart problems and the like?  There is plenty of scientific evidence along these lines but, apparently, it has been ignored.

I will be coming out next month (August) with about 30 hours on DVD wherein I apply EFT for 20+ people with Serious Diseases.  I take aim solely at their emotional issues and, as those fears, angers, etc. vanish, you will see their physical symptoms dramatically fade.  Pain recedes, flexibility returns, tremors subside and so on.  It's astonishing to watch, especially since no medical procedures are used whatsoever.  Note: Anyone can learn the basics of EFT for free by downloading the EFT Manual at http://www.emofree.com/downloadeftmanual.asp

These results would be impossible unless unhealthy emotions were an important cause of physical symptoms.

I'm very open to opposing views but, frankly, I doubt if a whole room full of doctors using conventional medicine (drugs, surgeries, radiation) can duplicate those results.  This is not a criticism of the dedicated docs, by the way.  Rather, it is a commentary on Medicine's Major Miss.  If Medicine isn't addressing the true cause, then isn't it just masking symptoms?

Am I just being naive here?  Do I really think that this simple idea is worthy of the Medical Monolith shifting its focus towards emotional causes?

    Well ... yes!

A growing number of physicians are persuaded in this direction and one such doctor is Larry Burk MD, a radiologist in North Carolina.  Dr. Burk appeared on one our DVDs and discussed these concepts with me at some length.  Interestingly, he has seen many X-rays and MRIs wherein medical explanations are quite divergent from people's experiences of pain.  I print below his comments on my recent post, "What REALLY causes disease?"

    Cheers, Gary

I’m responding to Gary’s 7/2/06 blog about What REALLY causes disease? The example of rheumatoid arthritis can be expanded to include all autoimmune diseases where medical science has documented antibodies turned against oneself as the cause of symptoms. However, the cause of the antibody response itself is never explained, so we are left pondering the deeper meaning of these diseases of self-hatred which have negative emotions turned inward as a central metaphor. The best evidence we have for the truth of this metaphor is when results such as those described by Caroline Higgins are obtained with EFT.

It is also instructive to note that many other ailments which seem to have an underlying anatomical cause may also have a deeper emotional root as well. As a radiologist I am acutely aware of this situation, since there are many scientific studies of MRI indicating that a surprising number of people with no symptoms whatsoever have rather dramatic abnormalities on scans obtained on a volunteer basis for research purposes. Equally puzzling, there are many patients with severe debilitating pain from conditions such as fibromyalgia who have no abnormalities on any MRI scans.

In 2001, David G. Borenstein, MD, published an article in The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery entitled The Value of Magnetic Resonance Imaging of the Lumbar Spine to Predict Low-Back Pain in Asymptomatic Subjects: A Seven-Year Follow-up Study. In 1989, a group of 67 asymptomatic individuals with no history of back pain underwent magnetic resonance imaging of the lumbar spine. 21 subjects (31%) had an identifiable abnormality of a disc or of the spinal canal. The findings on magnetic resonance scans were not predictive of the development or duration of low-back pain.

Similar studies have been reported in asymptomatic volunteers for MRI findings in the cervical and thoracic spine, the shoulder and the knee. This research calls into question the assumed cause-and-effect relationship between symptoms and anatomical abnormalities. The same issues are raised by the fact that some patients get better when their physical pathology is corrected through surgery, and some do not. In additional research studies on the placebo effect, sham surgery has produced relief of symptoms when nothing but a skin incision was made at the time of the procedure. All of this information lends support to the concept that deeper emotional issues are at the root which can be addressed with EFT.

  • What REALLY causes disease? ... FOLLOW-UP

The response to my recent message on this subject ranged everywhere from Bravo ... to people suggesting I leave the planet.

The latter folks were quick to tell me that I was all wet by suggesting that the cause of Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) was unknown.  Several people told me it was caused by inflammation of the joints and/or problems with the synovial fluid.  Further, they were quick to point out that I should have known that.

While I honor those views, I don't see how we can possibly point the finger of cause at inflammation and synovial fluid problems because they are, obviously, the symptoms of the disease.  How can the symptoms be considered the cause?  That is like saying the cause of the common cold is a stuffy nose.

Several people also pointed to Mycoplasma as a cause.  However, when I looked up that term on the respected medical websites, I could find no indication of WHAT CAUSES THAT.  So should we conclude then, that the cause of RA is some other condition for which the cause is also unknown.  Isn't this like chasing one's medical tail?

If we are to get down to the true cause of RA (and other diseases), shouldn't we be looking at WHAT CAUSES THOSE PRESUMED CAUSES?  I mean shouldn't we be looking for what causes Mycoplasma, inflammation and synovial fluid problems in the first place?

Interestingly, this vital question about cause permeates a long list of diseases.  As it turns out, RA is only a tiny part of the whole dilemma.

We have a mountain of physical healings displayed on The EFT Website, all of which were achieved without drugs, surgery, radiation and the like.  We approached them as though the cause was emotional in nature and ... Voila! ... success.

This should surprise no one because it is intuitively obvious that unhealthy emotions often show up as disease. Are we not, then, running right into an important cause of disease?  Perhaps THE most important cause?

    Cheers, Gary
