Hi EFT'ers,
I need your assistance. Please work with me to help refine my current efforts at portraying the Timeless EFT Principles below. Are they complete? Are they clear? Would you reword any of them? Would you add something? This is an essential EFT document because it establishes the foundation for the entire EFT Community. Thus I would appreciate your comments at the end of this Blog.
With Deep Respect, Gary
The Timeless EFT Principles (And why EFT is always on the cutting edge)
By Gary Craig
Introduction: EFT is everywhere. You'll find it in books, blogs, websites, newsletters and workshops worldwide. Its results for emotional, physical and performance issues are extraordinary. No drugs or surgeries are involved, it often works where nothing else will and it's all based on some Timeless EFT Principles that anyone can learn.
However, we must make an important distinction if you are to maximize your use of EFT. From the beginning, I have encouraged The EFT Community to experiment with EFT, blend it with other methods and develop alternative approaches. The result has been an extraordinary collection of EFT gems that allow users to customize the process to their own style. However, these wonderments are different from the Timeless EFT Principles and do not replace them. Rather, they give you an endless assortment of variations and options regarding how to use these Principles.
Just as athletes must master all the basics to rise to the top of their sport, so must an EFT'er master the Timeless EFT Principles. Tennis players, for example, must master the serve, forehand, backhand and net play if they are going to step on the court with the best. They can tweak their game by variations in their shoes, hand grips & tennis rackets, of course, and they can move from coach to coach to learn about different grips and footwork. However, without mastering the "Timeless Tennis Principles," they will never maximize their abilities.
The same applies to EFT Mastery wherein the Timeless EFT Principles are essential. For a quality look at these Principles in action, just view our DVD sets known as Borrowing Benefits, Serious Diseases 1 &2 and Mastering EFT. There you will find 40+ quality sessions wherein I use ONLY the Timeless EFT Principles. No variations, options or customizations involved. They set the bar for quality EFT and I am thrilled to have taught many people to match those results. I anxiously await the day when we can consistently exceed that. We will adjust the Timeless EFT Principles at that time and, in this way, EFT will always be on the cutting edge.
The EFT Certification Program is designed to distill these Principles out of our DVDs and other materials so that the serious student can achieve mastery. Along these lines, Official EFT represents the DVDs and website EFT instruction (including the EFT Tutorial) that are based on the Timeless EFT Principles and further clarified by the EFT Certification Study Guides.
Below are the Timeless EFT Principles. Note: Some of these Principles are unique to EFT while others have been customized from other sources and have become integral to the EFT process.
Principle #1 - The Discovery Statement: "The cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body's energy system."
This is the foundation of EFT and also represents the essence of Energy Psychology. As a result, all versions tune in to the issue at hand and then stimulate the energy points on the body to create energy balancing. The proponents of the various versions may not state this directly but it is the underlying principle. This statement is discussed in the EFT Manual and in The EFT Course DVD set.
This wording is my own and was developed from my initial exposure to these energy related processes by Dr. Roger Callahan. While I honor Dr. Callahan's important contributions to this field, I have developed, distilled and simplified Dr. Callahan's methods.
Principle #2 - The EFT Basic Recipe: The full version of this simple procedure is given in the free EFT Manual and is demonstrated profusely in the first two videos of the EFT Course (part of the EFT Foundational Library). There are many variations and shortcut versions that people use but your EFT education is not complete without a thorough grounding in the original. In our EFT-Beyond the Basics DVD set we also introduce 3 other points that are used with some frequency: Top of the Head, Wrists, Ankles
Unfortunately, most people teach the variations and shortcuts only. This shortchanges the student. Others believe new tapping points should be introduced and give a wide variety of reasons for them. I (and others) have experimented endlessly with these points since the mid-90's and I have yet to see any of them provide consistently improved benefits over the standard EFT points. Some may work as well but this is not where EFT improvements are to be made. Rather, the real progress comes from the Art of Delivery that encompasses the other principles below.
This Basic Recipe is my own design and represents a fundamental shift from my original teacher. While it uses the general format and points taught by Dr. Callahan, this EFT tapping routine (algorithm) can be used for ALL issues rather than having to "diagnose," via muscle testing (or otherwise) to find specific tapping routines for various ailments. This "one tapping routine fits all" innovation has vastly simplified the process and allowed EFT to be very streamlined, intuitive and flowing. It has become the central, most widely accepted innovation in the field.
Principle #3 - Customized Setup Phrasing: To add to the streamlined, intuitive and flowing nature of the Basic Recipe, I discovered a vitally important upgrade to the Setup portion that has considerably opened up EFT's Art of Delivery for experienced students. By expanding and customizing the Setup in a manner that some people call "stream of consciousness" or "intuitive rambling," three things can be accomplished:
- more focus can be given to the issue,
- reframes can be added that land much better than through conventional means and,
- intuition often shows up to substantially aid the detective process for finding core issues.
Because this Principle uniquely dovetails intuition with the Basic recipe, it has become a major innovation and elevated the process greatly for serious students. Every EFT expert uses it and their skills with this Principle are what separates their results from the average.
This innovation can be found in every EFT DVD set starting with EFT-Beyond the Basics.
Principle #4 - Adding Reframes: My background in NLP taught me about the art of reframing someone's perspective. This skill can encourage cognitive shifts, which is the ultimate goal in traditional therapy, and has increased the success of EFT on a large scale. Once I learned to customize the Default Setup Phrase (see Principle #3) and collapse emotional intensity more completely, I began adding Reframes to see if I could shift the clients' perspective in a healthier direction. The results were astounding, and the degree of cognitive shift that I was able to produce was yet another important innovation to the EFT process. Any experienced practitioner with skill in applying Reframes has dramatically expanded their results.
It isn't reframing itself that is the innovation, however, for that is a widely held concept within the therapy field. Rather, it is the idea of doing reframing while tapping. For reasons not yet known, this radically improves how well reframes "land" with the client.
This innovation started to develop in our DVD set "EFT-Beyond the Basics" and is fully developed in "Borrowing Benefits." Please refer to the Intermediate Library Tutorials for detailed instruction.
Principle #5 - Shifting Aspects: Unlike conventional methods, EFT can be so rapid and efficient that clients "shift aspects" during the session without knowing it. Since a given issue can have several parts or emotions contained within it (aspects), it is not unusual for an EFT client to resolve one aspect immediately and then shift to another aspect without noticing the previous improvement.
Thus the client can shift from one event in a memory to another or shift to different emotions within the event and conclude that "nothing happened." In reality, they may have completely resolved one aspect and are now working on another.
It is critical for the EFT practitioner to understand this Principle and to develop skills to work with it. Otherwise, neither the client nor the practitioner will be able to fully recognize the progress. It is vital to demonstrate it repeatedly so the student is thoroughly grounded in this Principle. That's why it is covered in The EFT Manual and demonstrated throughout our Training DVDs.
Principle #6 - Using Specific Events: Clients almost always portray their issues in global terms like, "I feel abandoned", "I have a bad temper" or "My self image is poor." However, none of these broad issues could arise UNLESS there were specific events underlying them. One cannot feel abandoned, for example, unless s/he has experienced abandonment events previously.
Unfortunately, the inexperienced EFT'er typically tries to tap on these global issues with language such as, "Even though I feel abandoned...". This is like trying to chop down an entire forest of diseased trees with one swing of the axe. The client may feel some relief but you haven't gotten to the core of the issue until you break it down into the easily EFT'able specific events underlying the problem.
Not addressing specific events is one of the major errors made by newcomers. The EFT Manual says, "Be specific where possible" on numerous occasions. Further, specific events are profusely illustrated in our DVD sets known as Borrowing Benefits, EFT for Serious Diseases 1 & 2 and Mastering EFT. It is also useful to note that the specific events for some clients are so intense that the Principle involving Minimizing Pain is best used first.
I developed this Principle, and its unique application to EFT, as a result of my training as an engineer. It just seemed so logical to break down complex issues into smaller, easier to handle, parts. Nonetheless, it has been one of the most difficult Principles to teach. Many therapists have been conditioned to "stay global" and, even though they understand this Principle, they have difficulty putting it into practice.
So, to support the use of Specific Events with EFT, I developed the Movie Technique and the Tell the Story Technique. They naturally force the use of specific events and are described under Useful EFT Tools below. They have become among the centerpieces to EFT's Art of Delivery.
Principle #7 - The Generalization Effect: After you have used EFT to neutralize a few problems or specific events on a certain theme, the positive effects tend to generalize across related issues. This is because these related events have commonalities.
For example, someone who has 100 traumatic memories usually finds that, after using EFT, the intensities tend to vanish for ALL of them after neutralizing only a relatively small number. This is startling to some because they have so many traumas that they think they are in for unending sessions with these techniques. Not so. Thanks to this Principle, EFT often clears out a whole forest of diseased trees after cutting down just a few of them.
I first noticed this when I dealt with Rich, the first Veteran on the "6 Days at the VA" DVD in our EFT Course. This is an important observation and, along with specific events, brings great efficiency to broadly based and complex issues. Knowing how to use this Principle often separates the experienced EFT'ers from the rest.
Principle #8 - Testing Your Work: Testing your work is imperative. Without it you will often flounder and not know where you are in the process. Thus repeatedly asking for the 0-10 intensity ratings is essential. But this isn't enough.
You must also integrate within your sessions ways to challenge the client's improvement by role playing, testing the results in the real world, asking knee-wobbling questions, etc. Testing is a crucial skill and you must have a wide facility with it. That's why our DVD Training Libraries are loaded with live sessions where testing is performed from many angles.
Although testing your work on a 0-10 basis is not a unique concept, my addition to the testing process for EFT included many ways to creatively challenge the apparent results as the sessions unfold. EFT allows us to rapidly go to new depths with our clients and it thus becomes imperative that we appropriately test so that "we know where we are" in the process. Skillful testing allows us to be as thorough as possible.
Principle #9 - Chasing the Pain: This Principle has an interesting history. As I gained experience with EFT, I repeatedly saw how emotional and physical issues were linked. At first, I saw that emotional releases also resulted in reduced headaches, back pain, stomach upsets, etc.
But then I found that you can also do this in reverse. A client with an intense emotional issue, for example, will often have physical symptoms. If you address the physical symptoms with EFT first and Chase the Pain as these symptoms shift, you will often collapse the related emotional issue without ever having to deal with it directly. This is clearly demonstrated in my session with Kathy in the Borrowing Benefits DVD set and with Lily in our Serious Diseases 1 DVD set.
Principle #10 - Finding Core Issues: This essential Principle also separates the expert practitioners from the average. It takes solid detective work to get down to the real issues behind the client's problem. This isn't a principle that you learn overnight. Rather, it takes experience and the repeated demonstrations that exist throughout our training DVDs. With these demonstrations, you are given an impressive number of approaches for use with your clients.
While the idea of finding core issues is not new, it takes on special importance when we are able to bring relief so rapidly. Until you truly resolve the core issues, the problems will appear to "come back." This is a clue that you aren't done yet. Many of the EFT variations that I have seen provide different ways to do this detective work.
Some standard questions help us find Core Issues and, properly used, they almost always lead us into useful territory. Two of these questions are: (1) What does that remind you of? and (2) If you could live life over again, what person or event would you just as soon skip?
Principle #11 - Minimizing Pain: Because we can get to Core Issues with unprecedented speed and depth with EFT, we need another Principle to "sneak up on the problem." This is so these painful issues can be handled humanely. Thus we developed unique EFT procedures that add gentleness to the process. They include "taking the edge off" by tapping globally at first and The Tearless Trauma Technique (described as one of the Useful EFT Tools below).
Principle #12 - Borrowing Benefits: An entire EFT DVD set is devoted to this unique and stunning EFT discovery. It revolves around the fact that you can identify issues of your own and improve them by "tapping along" while someone else is undergoing EFT for a completely different issue.
Anyone can use this remarkable advance by simply tapping along in their living room with any of the 70+ video sessions in our training DVDs ... OR ... by doing a live or video session in front of a big audience. Properly done, simultaneous benefits can be borrowed by rooms full of people.
I first discovered this by listening to the reports of therapists who tapped along with their clients. They cleared up their own thyroid problems, collapsed their own phobias, etc. without ever using EFT on these items directly. With these reports as a foundation, I began doing EFT with a live person on stage and had the audience borrow benefits by tapping along for their own issues. Success ... and our Borrowing Benefits Principle was the result.
Principle #13 - Surrogate EFT: In the process of doing Borrowing Benefits, workshop participants were noticing that the group tapping of the audience appeared to help people on stage. In time I experimented with this surrogate form of EFT by tapping for others by proxy and achieved consistent results.
Thus you can do EFT on yourself on behalf of someone thousands of miles away and often generate benefits for them (and sometimes for yourself). Among other things, this extraordinary principle allows you to help others who are unable to help themselves (e.g. infants, pets, disabled people, etc.).
Surrogate work like this is not new as various forms of prayer have shown similar benefits. However, adding EFT to the surrogate healing process can dramatically accelerate the results. It appears to work much more rapidly, deeply and consistently when EFT is involved. Accordingly, there are many ways to customize this process to EFT and you will find them throughout our website.
Principle #14 - Doing EFT THROUGH you, not BY you: I recognized the importance of intuition early on in EFT's development and thus departed from the more mechanical and prescribed approach used by Dr. Callahan at that time.
This is the central idea behind the use of intuition within the EFT process. It involves "getting yourself out of the way" and this customized approach is discussed in depth in our DVD set EFT-Beyond the Basics.
Intuition is always useful in the healing process but takes on a new importance now that we have a tool that can readily collapse the issues that your intuition uncovers.
Useful EFT ToolsTearless Trauma Technique: I came up with this unique Tool as I realized the necessity for minimizing emotional pain during the EFT process. I discovered that clients could simply guess at how intense an emotional memory might be if they were to vividly imagine it. When doing so their guesses were accurate enough for EFT to work without getting into intense details, at least at first. After a few rounds of the Tearless Trauma Technique, enough of the edge gets taken off so that the more traumatic details can be visited with relative ease. It is fully described in the Tutorial section of our website and demonstrated often in our Training DVDs.
The Movie and Tell the Story Techniques: These systematic "collapse as you go" Tools are ideal for neutralizing the effects of specific events in a profound way. In the Movie Technique, a brief mental movie, real or imagined, is made of the event while in the Tell the Story Technique, the event is narrated. In both approaches, EFT is applied to the crescendos until the movie or story no longer carries any charge.
These simple, straightforward approaches, can be used by anyone and are frequently illustrated in our Training DVDs. They are also fully detailed in the Tutorial section of our website. As simple as they appear, experience and artistry are required to skillfully deliver them.
While imagining or recounting the story may be a part of many therapeutic methods, what is unique here is the integration of EFT in strategic ways to profoundly resolve emotional intensity as you go. It is customized to integrate the Principles of Finding Core Issues, Testing and Being Specific.
I first used these approaches when working with our veterans on the "6 Days at the VA" video. I then recognized how a simple, systematic method for neutralizing specific events would be imperative for any practitioner.
Personal Peace Procedure: This process is widely used for client homework and is ideal for long term work on global issues. In practice, the client makes a list of every specific event in his/her life that s/he wishes hadn't happened, and then performs EFT on them one at a time. If, over 90 days, the client addresses 1 to 3 specific events per day, s/he will have reduced the emotional burden of 90 to 270 of them. This process has been responsible for changing many lives and is fully described in the Tutorial section of our website. "In practice, the client makes a list of every specific event in his/her life that he/she wishes hadn't happened, and then performs EFT on them one at a time.
The Constricted Breathing Technique: This unique process was originally designed to help find important emotional issues. This is because emotional issues often curtail our ability to breathe deeply. You will find a quality description in the Tutorial section of our website and in our DVD set known as EFT-Beyond the Basics.
A MUST EFT Procedure for Children: This delightful method involves gentle tapping on children. In essence, you tap on them while they tell you about their day (often done at bedtime). This helps collapse many issues while they are still fresh so they don't accumulate into big issues as adulthood unfolds. This priceless gift for children is fully explained in the Tutorial section of our website.

I missed an opportunity this morning.
As I walked out of the post office my attention was gently averted by a young man of about 30. He was thin with blond hair and carried a napsack on his back. He was wearing a "fatigue jacket," the type typically worn by war veterans. He asked in a soft, frightened voice....
Can you spare a quarter so I can get something to eat?
My "judgment meter" came up immediately and I thought, "A quarter! What sort of con is this? What can you buy with that?"
But, fortunately, I paused a moment to connect with his presence. He was uncomfortable with begging and was near tears. It was as though his greatest fear was that I would reject or scold him for bothering me. He was timid, unassuming and tugged at my soul.
But then my judgment meter showed up again. Was he a con man like some other beggars? Did he only ask for a quarter to get my attention because of the absurdity of the request? Did that fatigue jacket really mean he was a veteran? Or was it part of an act?
I weighed both sides of these thoughts and it only took an instant for my soul to win. I said "Sure" and gave him a $20 bill. He looked genuinely surprised and gave me a thank you that included a grateful look from his dancing blue eyes and a warm touch on my shoulder that I can still feel.
It was one of those loving moments that we remember for a lifetime. The kind that soaks into your psyche and punctuates your existence.
But this moment was incomplete because my "guy stuff" came up and I missed this priceless opportunity to connect with him. Who was he? I didn't even know his name. Did he need more help ... or a a friend ... or EFT? Was he sent as a teacher to me?
But, alas, I went into the barber shop and, when I came out, my new friend was gone.
Sometimes we touch one another in unexpected ways. Fortunately, in the healing professions, we have these opportunities every day. But what do we do with them? Do we truly connect or do we keep these souls at a distance so we can "maintain professionalism?" Interesting dilemma, eh? Maybe we can think about that the next time we have a chance to deepen a loving connection. After all, isn't love the ultimate healer?

An influential man in your life died recently. His name was Coach Ben Hammerschmidt (Coach Ben). He was my high school baseball & football coach and, whether you are aware of it or not, he was YOUR coach as well ... and still is. Why? Because his principles have made EFT what it is. They permeate every corner of it.
Let me explain.
In my teenage years, Coach Ben was the centerpiece of my life. At first, I didn't get his true teachings because I thought pursuing trophies was what life was all about. Excel in sports. Win some blue ribbons. Gather hardware and statues for your mantlepiece so you can display your greatness in the years to come. Do so and people will admire you. They will will go "oooh" and "ahhh" at your trophies and will love you.
Sigh!
Coach Ben helped me get those trophies and even helped me get a Stanford football scholarship. For that I am forever grateful. He was a disciplined man, as a coach must be. But he was also a man with an open hand and a soft side that understood the true meaning of his job. He understood giving and fair play and integrity. For him, life wasn't about trophies or money or any of that stuff. It was about helping young men along life's many paths. It was about the power of teamwork and how pulling together brought rewards that individual prima donnas could not achieve on their own.
He lived these principles without really talking much about them. His life was an example for us all and touched multitudes by his presence. He was love personified in a sturdily built German body.
It took me many years and a lot of maturing to finally get Coach Ben's true message. EFT is built on that message because the "trophies" of EFT have nothing to do with certificates on the wall, awards, money, fame and the like. Our trophies are all about...
-
healing and spiritual connection
-
emotional freedom and walking out of our own prisons
-
turning anger into forgiveness and replacing pain with peace
-
love and making sure everyone has access to the EFT process in a quality and consistent way
-
the comraderie within our growing EFT Community and the teamwork that Coach Ben taught so beautifully.
These are the trophies that really matter.
Saturday, May 23, 2009 is the date of Coach Ben's memorial service in my home town of Riverside, California. I am honored to have been invited by his family to address hundreds of his athletes and friends by reciting a poem that I wrote for his retirement dinner 30 years ago. I put it on the internet and, if you wish, you can view my Coach Ben Tribute now.
Sooner or later, we all come to the end our lives. When people attend your memorial service which of your life's "trophies" will they remember? Will they even care about the hardware on your mantlepiece or the certificates on your wall? Or will they remember the times you made a difference in the lives of others? Your softness, your smiles, your encouragement.
What better time than now to touch our brothers and sisters and collect a few more of those trophies that really matter.

Will EFT help with the Swine Flu? Probably. In fact, this brief post may represent a profound answer to this problem. It's drug-free and simple. However, please recall that I have no medical training and thus I am simply giving you my experience.
That being said, I have personally used EFT 5 or 6 times for flu symptoms over the last dozen years and, in each case, my symptoms lasted a few hours rather than a week or two. Some symptoms vanished in minutes.
I'm not alone here as we have similar reports on our website. Just enter "flu" into our on site search engine and read the articles.
Nothing magic about the EFT process for this problem. Start with simple approaches like, "Even though I have this [sore throat, headache, lethargic feeling, etc]...." If that doesn't work, look for recent recent, resentments, guilts, and other negative emotions that may be compromising your immune system. That's it. Pretty simple.
Should you get vaccinated? That's a medical question and one that I'm not qualified to answer. In my experience, though, EFT is likely to be useful whether or not one goes the vaccination route.
Hope this helps, Gary

IMPORTANT NOTE: Although I write this in a free speech effort to promote world healing, I am not a physician and have no medical background whatsoever. Always seek qualified medical help for serious diseases.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The headline of a 4/24/09 New York Times article reads....
In Long Drive to Cure Cancer, Advances Have Been Elusive
This well written article by Gina Kolata, laments how the death rate from cancer has improved by only 5% from 1950 to 2005 while over $100 billion was spent in this near-futile effort.
Similar things could be said about other serious diseases for which there are apparently no cures (at least not via the medical approach). I speak here of Multiple Sclerosis, Scleroderma, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Irritable Bowel Syndrome and a long, long, long list of other ailments.
Could it be that the medical researchers are looking in the wrong place for cures and that's why they are coming up empty handed? They look where they are taught by the medical schools, of course. They look at cells and DNA and intricate body chemistry. They look at blood and body parts and so on. They act as if the causes involve body chemistry, although they admit to being baffled by the true causes of a long list of diseases.
Here in the EFT Community we see frequent jaw-dropping evidence that a major cause for serious diseases involves unresolved emotional issues. Many medical researchers don't see that but we have known it here at EFT for a decade. We find with reasonable regularity that people who harbor long term fears, guilt, anger and the like usually improve physically after we EFT the emotional issues away.
This link between emotions and diseases is also becoming clear in the scientific realm. The ACE study done by Kaiser points to compelling evidence in this regard. Here is a brief synopsis of the larger ACE study.
The Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) Study is a major research study that compares current adult health status to childhood experiences decades earlier. With the cooperation of 17,421 adult Health Plan members ... the ACE Study reveals a powerful relation between our emotional experiences as children and our adult emotional health, physical health, and major causes of mortality in the United States.
So what does this mean to the EFT Community? How can we help sail the EFT ship into the medical harbor? Easy! Write Gina Kolata, the author of the New York Times article. She is a science writer and is no doubt looking for useful stories. Give her loads of input. If she only gets one email from us, it probably won't mean much. But if she gets multitudes, we will be hard to ignore.
One of our biggest assets is our numbers. Together we have much more influence than we think. If this effort with Gina Kolata doesn't get her attention, then so be it. However, this effort WILL get the attention of another media writer on another day. Together we can eventually get some of the world's largest publications to feature EFT.
To write Gina:
1. Go to http://www.nytimes.com/gst/emailus.html and start your message with Dear Gina Kolata.
2. Create an intro regarding your experiences with EFT and thenCopy and Paste this message below your intro.
3. Press the "Click to Send Message" button.
That's it. Five minutes on your part may help bring healing to thousands or millions.
From the story: "I puddled up inside. Suddenly, nothing else mattered. There it was ... the connection we all strive for but don't know how to voice. A spiritual experience from the most unlikely of places. What reward could possibly transcend that? I choked back a tear and he could see that he moved me. Actually, we moved each other. There was a silence between us that allowed the moment to engrave itself on our beings."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is a story about Bob (a Vietnam Vet) and me. It's a touching story, a sort of "guy thing" that transcends normal expectations. It's about an unusual affection between two men, despite our conditioning to be tough and not show emotions. It's about the love and respect that can only come about when we "connect" in that special way ... a spiritual way.
You can meet Bob on film. He is one of the vets featured on our 20 minute PTSD video. When I first met him he had daily suicide thoughts and suffered from paranoia. Most nights he would wake up from his nightmares and swing his fists. His sheets were wet from sweat every night. Such is the life of all too many soldiers.
We had a rocky beginning. I invited Bob and several other vets to a 5 day "EFT for War Veterans" gathering in San Francisco. Despite the fact that all expenses were paid, Bob didn't want to come. He said, "This whole thing is Bull ***!" I've tried them all. I've been in and out of psych wards much of my life and I will just be wasting my time. Besides, I'm afraid of flying and I'm not sitting in a f-----g airplane across the country from Pennsylvania to California." He also said, "I have some memories behind my personal wall and nobody is getting to them."
So I asked Miguel Vazquez, a Vietnam Vet who I personally helped with his PTSD, to call Bob and preach the EFT Faith. It worked and Bob reluctantly got on that airplane. Unbeknownst to him, however, I did several rounds of EFT surrogately for his fear of flying and, of course, he had no problem with the flight. But that's another story.
Even though we had 5 EFT experts present in San Francisco, I chose to take Bob under my wing for personal attention. Despite his vocal abuses about the stupidity of this event, I saw the tenderness underneath. It's there with most vets. It's the little boy inside crying out for attention ... for acknowledgement ... for love ... all the while taking shots at anyone who tries to "get close." In a way, I think we all do this, including me. I saw him as a challenge and as a brother. We somehow had something in common. There was something in Bob that I recognized in me.
So we started slowly. We worked on a height phobia and that went poof in 30 minutes. Then we worked on some "small war memories" and those subsided as well. After 2 days, he slept the night through. No nightmares. No sweats. No swinging fists.
Now I had his attention. He was relaxed and smiled a lot. No longer was he critical of this event or EFT. He didn't understand it, of course, but the results were undeniable. He softened and the first trickle of our friendship began . That's how it is with vets. There are rivers of contained love that can flood souls once the dam has been broken.
Then we worked on those "memories behind his personal wall." Despite some difficult moments during the sessions, EFT brought him to peace and those memories have not bothered him since (his paranoia and suicide thoughts have vanished as well).
Then he turned to me with gratitude written all over his face and gave me the words that echo in my being to this day. He said...
"I love ya, man!"
I puddled up inside. Suddenly, nothing else mattered. There it was ... the connection we all strive for but don't know how to voice. A spiritual experience from the most unlikely of places. What reward could possibly transcend that? I choked back a tear and he could see that he moved me. Actually, we moved each other. There was a silence between us that allowed the moment to engrave itself on our beings.
Bob and I remain friends to this day and we call each other from time to time to catch up. Sometimes, amidst the pressures of this growing EFT movement, I lose sight of the human reason I am here. But all I need to do is remember the many "Bob experiences" that I have collected over the years and I am right back on purpose.
I Love ya, Gary

Today I found myself in "EFT Gratitude Mode" and this poem was the result. It is all about you so I hope you like it. You are changing the world are are a treasure to me. Just keep on being you.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I sit here in awe, and the awe's about you,
A wellspring of friends, with gratitude due.
Your beauty astounds, as healing you spread,
Bringing peace and health, with skills thoroughbred.
From one minute wonders, to difficult cases,
With love and persistence, you light up those faces.
For how many hearts, have you lightened the load?
And how many pains have you sent down the road?
To our clients and friends, we have given a gift,
And in the process, our own souls we did lift.
For what better reward, could anyone claim,
Than to touch another, with a spiritual aim.
You are Touching the World, with your presence here,
And you tug at my heart, as I hold you so dear.
This instructs Health Professionals and Do-IT-Yourselfer's to use our DVDs efficiently. Note the caveats included at the end.
Do you look at the size of our DVD Libraries (140 hours in total) and say, "This is too much!" or "This must be too complicated"? Many do, at least at first glance. Actually, they are neither too much nor too complicated. The proper phrase is "Easy, Fun and Thorough," as a proper look at them will reveal.
They have been designed to get you started quickly and then move you toward more sophisticated uses as your interest appears. In one evening, for example, you can have this lifetime tool at your fingertips and you can apply it anytime, anywhere for just about any issue you can name.
Just read the EFT Manual and watch the first two videos in the EFT Course (part of the EFT Foundational Library), This will give you a thorough grounding in the basics that you can use immediately on family, friends and clients. You don't need to attend a class or get someone's approval or take a test. Nor do you need a college degree. Just start doing it. You may stub your toe a time or two at first but a little practice should improve your results quickly. We have children who use these basics to provide impressive benefits.
So that's how anyone starts, whether you are a health professional or a do-it-yourself'er. From here our DVDs will move you well beyond the basics and will take you as far into the sophisticated levels as you choose to go. There are two easy ways to proceed. Health professinals should use the first method but do-it-yourself''ers can use either one.
Easy Procedure #1 -- Proceed through the rest of the DVDs as your time and interest allows.
Although it is possible to skip around within the DVDs, it is best to view them in order. Along the way you will gain insights into creative uses of EFT that include Doing EFT over the Phone, EFT for War Veterans with PTSD, The Palace of Possibilities, Specialty Uses of EFT, EFT for Serious Diseases and a fascinating concept called Borrowing Benefits. This list represents about 1/3 of the important contributions these DVDs will make to your success rate.
While you can buy the DVDs one Library at a time, there is a major discount if you buy them all at once. Professionals will want them all eventually so proceed as your budget allows.
Easy Procedure #2 -- Ignore any further instructions and simply tap along with the live sessions contained within the DVDs. This is called Borrowiing Benefits.
We have found through years of experience that you can tap along with someone else's issue and still get improvement for your own EVEN THOUGH YOUR ISSUE APPEARS ENTIRELY DIFFERENT FROM THE PERSON ON STAGE. Example: You may have never been in war so you might think that tapping along with a war veteran's issue would be useless. Not so. That war veteran is likely dealing with trauma, guilt, physical pains, anger, fear feeling violated, etc. While you may not have had the exact same war experiences, you HAVE had your version of all those issues. Have you not?
Accordingly, your system can automatically pick up the necessary parallels and bring you relief while you tap along with a wide variety of issues on your TV screen. Further, the numerous and diverse sessions available to you on these DVDs are quite entertaining. There is more humor and human drama in them than in any reality TV show. I once use this procedure with an audience of 500 people and 499 reported impressive results.
Interestingly, yoiu can use these "tap along" sessions repeatedly for thousands of issues. And, as you do this, you will gradually learn the fine points of EFT. Why? Because they are demonstrated repeatedly in the sessions. With this type of exposure, you can't help but expand your sophistication with this method.
You can apply this process using only the sessions contained in the EFT Foundational Library. However, you will have a much wider diversity of sessions at your disposal (and you will learn much more) if you buy all 3 Libraries at the same time. A large discount applies for this group purchase so proceed as you budget dictates.
Caveats
The internet is loaded with many "quickie" forms of EFT that give the impression you can learn all the EFT you need by attending a workshop or by viewing a few minues of online videos or by following the instructions following a tapping points diagram. This is inaccurate. None of these things (not even my own workshops) can come anywhere close to covering all the material in our DVDs.
On the other hand, there is something to be said for the hands on nature and supervisorial features of a quality EFT workshop. These features cannot be provided by our DVDs and so I encourage workshops done along these lines. Please know that I have not trained any workshop presenters and thus I cannot endorse any of them.
There are two types of workshops that I encourage, neither of which replace our DVDs: (1) Those that offer condensed versions of EFT (and state that's what they are offering) and (2) Those that augment what is taught in our DVDs -- e.g. specialized approaches for things like weight loss, relationships, etc. I have provided an ethical and common sense document along these lines.
This touching and patriotic story has been circulating on the internet. It's message is powerful so I thought I would include it in this blog. The author is unknown.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Last week I was in Atlanta , Georgia attending a conference. While I was in the airport, returning home, I heard several people behind me beginning to clap and cheer. I immediately turned around and witnessed one of the greatest acts of patriotism I have ever seen.
Moving thru the terminal was a group of soldiers in their camos. As they began heading to their gate, everyone (well almost everyone) was abruptly to their feet with their hands waving and cheering.
When I saw the soldiers, probably 30-40 of them, being applauded and cheered for, it hit me. I'm not alone. I'm no t the only red-blooded American who still loves this country and supports our troops and their families.
Of course I immediately stopped and began clapping for these young unsung heroes who are putting their lives on the line everyday for us so we can go to school, work and home without fear or reprisal.
Just when I thought I could not be more proud of my country or of our service men and women, a young girl, not more than 6 or 7 years old ran up to one of the male soldiers. He kneeled down and said 'hi.'
The little girl then asked him if he would give something to her daddy fo r her.
The young soldier, who didn't look any older than maybe 22 himself, s aid he would try and what did she want to give to her daddy. Then suddenly the little girl grabbed the neck of this soldier, gave him the biggest hug she could muster and then kissed him on the cheek.
The mother of the little girl, who said her da ughter's name was Courtney , told the young soldier that her husband was a Marine and had been in Iraq for 11 months now. As the mom was explaining how much her daughter Courtney missed her father, the young soldier began to tear up.
When this temporarily single mom was done explaining her situation, all of the soldiers huddled together for a brief second. Then one of the other service m en pulled out a military-looking walkie-talkie. They started playing with the device and talking back and forth on it.
After about 10-15 seconds of this, the young soldier walked back over to Courtney, bent down and said this to her, 'I spoke to your daddy and he told me to give this to you.' He then hugged this little girl that he had just met and gave her a kiss on t he cheek. He finished by saying 'your daddy told me to tell you that he loves you more than anything and he is coming home very soon.'
The mom at this point wa s crying almost uncon trollably and as the young soldier stood to his feet, he saluted Courtney and her mom. I was standing no more than 6 feet away from this entire event.
As the soldiers began to leave, heading towards their gate, people resumed their applause. As I stood there applauding and looked around, there were very few dry eyes, including my own. That young soldier in one last act of se lflessness, turned around and blew a kiss to Courtney with a tear rolling down his ch eek.
We need to remember everyday all of our soldiers and their families and thank God for them and their sacrifices. At the end of the day, it's good to be an American.

For those who would like a quality introduction to EFT, here is an article that will soon appear in a new book, “101 Great Ways to Improve Your Health” by David Riklan and Dr. Joseph Cilea of Self-Growth.com. My gratitude to CJ Puotinen for helping me write it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
New Discovery Takes Chinese Medicine to a New Level
Thousands of years ago, physicians in China mapped the body’s electrical system. They charted fourteen energy paths, or meridians, and documented how stimulating specific points along those paths released energy blocks, restored the normal flow of Chi, or healing energy, and improved health.
Acupuncture, in which very thin needles are inserted at precise locations, is one way to achieve this result. Acupressure, in which massage or pressure stimulates the same points, is another.
But until recently, no one realized that tapping on key acupuncture points while focusing on a specific problem could eliminate or significantly reduce physical, mental, or emotional symptoms.
That’s why Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) is such an exciting discovery.
EFT’s underlying premise is that the true cause of every negative thought and most physical symptoms is an energy block along one or more of the body’s meridians. The combination of tapping and mental focus releases both the energy block and the problem it causes. No matter what they worry about, people of all ages, including small children, can change their minds from stressed to relaxed and improve their health and happiness, usually in less time than it takes to read this chapter.
Versatile and Widely Accepted
At first I didn’t realize how versatile EFT would become or how dramatically it transforms physical as well as emotional symptoms. Then the reports began to arrive. Whenever someone asked whether EFT works on a particular condition, such as allergies, high blood pressure, colds and flu, indigestion, arthritis, asthma, insomnia, sprains, or anything else, my answer was always the same: try it, and let me know what happens.
Soon, thousands of people with no special training were sharing their results. They had tapped and lost weight, stopped smoking, recovered in minutes from muscle sprains, chased migraine headaches away, stopped pain, and recovered from all types of illness or injury.
Many medical doctors and licensed health care practitioners have adopted EFT and use it routinely. Their patients often recover without the drugs or surgery they were scheduled to receive, or they heal faster, or chronic conditions that persisted for years suddenly improve or disappear.
Physical therapists working with athletes report that sports performance improves whenever EFT is part of the treatment. Many amateur and professional athletes use EFT to increase their stamina and coordination and to prevent injury. In fact, quite a few have used EFT to significantly improve their performance in everything from golf, baseball, bowling, soccer, or gymnastics to running a marathon.
Medicine’s Major Miss
What excites me most about EFT is its application to physical health and wellness. I’m convinced more than ever that modern medicine has walked right by a major contributor to chronic and acute diseases. Our unresolved angers, fears, and traumas show up in our physical bodies and manifest as rheumatoid arthritis, cancer, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, and hundreds of other illnesses.
Just about everyone knows this intuitively. Whenever Los Angeles physician Eric Robins, MD, shows patients how to do EFT, he explains that past traumas can be stored in muscles and organs in the body and that releasing past events and all the emotions they generate may alleviate physical symptoms. Dr. Robins reports that most patients grasp this concept at once, and as soon as they tap away their anger, frustration, or unhappy memories, their symptoms improve.
Psychologists have always known that there are powerful connections between mind and body, but conventional talk therapy seldom cures anything, and neither do psychoactive drugs.
But balancing the body’s energy can help cure everything, and it’s as simple as tapping on your head and torso while focusing on the problem. As Dr. Robins explains, this simple procedure releases or neutralizes the illness’s underlying cause, and as soon as that happens, the illness itself disappears.
Ever since I discovered how simple and effective EFT can be, I’ve been a man on a mission. So far, 350,000 people have downloaded my free EFT manual (it gives all the basics), my free online newsletter goes to several hundred thousand subscribers, and more than thirty books have been written about EFT. To help spread the word, those who purchase my inexpensive instructional DVDs have my written permission to make one hundred copies of each disc to share with others. Thousands of EFT practitioners around the world teach classes and work with clients. These practitioners include nurses, doctors, chiropractors, acupuncturists, massage therapists, physical therapists, nutritionists, clinical psychologists, licensed social workers, and counselors of every description.
No technique or procedure works for everyone, but by all accounts, approximately 80 percent of those who try EFT for a specific problem experience significant results. That’s a stunning statistic.
In Most Cases, Try EFT First
EFT has come a long way in ten years, but it’s not even a blip on conventional medicine’s radar. When it is noticed, it’s often relegated to the “support therapy” category, something to be used later, after conventional treatments. I hope that will soon change. Unless there is a medical emergency that requires immediate attention, EFT should be the first treatment that doctors offer. This, in my observation, will dramatically reduce the need for drugs, surgery, or radiation. Even in emergencies, such as accidents or injuries, EFT can be extremely helpful, for it helps people think clearly while reducing pain and discomfort. In all situations, it speeds recovery and healing.
To satisfy my curiosity about EFT’s effectiveness in the treatment of serious diseases, over the last two years, I traveled to different cities giving three-day seminars, in which I worked onstage with actual patients. As a result, I know more than ever that EFT is a truly universal healing tool. The same basic approach that treats diabetes, chronic fatigue syndrome, and multiple chemical sensitivities works as well for eyesight, muscular dystrophy, rheumatoid arthritis, asthma, allergies, pulled hamstring muscles, high blood pressure, and heart disease. And when it comes to fears, phobias, and anxiety, EFT is in a class by itself.
EFT is so new that it’s still evolving. I encourage practitioners and newbies alike to experiment—to try it on everything. It’s so versatile that you can use it on yourself, others, and animals. Some have even used it on plants, cars, and computers. It makes sense that if your energy is balanced, everything inside you and everything around you benefits.
I hope that everyone who reads this will be curious enough to try EFT. It’s easy to learn, easy to do, and can literally save your life.
About the Author
EFT was introduced in 1995 by Gary Craig, a Stanford engineer in lifelong pursuit of personal well-being. He recognized at a young age that the quality of his thoughts were mirrored in the quality of his life and has been intensely interested in personal improvement ever since. He has been self-taught in this field, seeking only those procedures that, in his opinion, produced results. EFT is his latest finding, but he also has high regard for NLP, in which he is a certified master practitioner. He is an ordained minister through the Universal Church of God in southern California, which is nondenominational and embraces all religions. He is a dedicated student of A Course in Miracles and approaches his work with a decidedly spiritual perspective. However, there is no specific spiritual teaching connected to EFT or its practitioners. You can learn more at the EFT Web site: http://www.emofree.com .
Please comment only on what exciting new vistas they inspire and toss any thoughts like "this won't work" in the trash.
EFT should become a Cosmic Law
So check it out. EFT's results as a self-calming technique are legendary and every seasoned EFT'er can fill encyclopedias with pristine examples of this feature. With impressive consistency, EFT converts upsets into tranquility and usually does so in moments.
But despite the striking benefits of this self-calming feature, it is usually confined to EFT sessions for "bringing a client down" after s/he tunes in to an upsetting event.
That's a big oversight because It has much broader uses than that.
EFT should be used for EVERY upset whether or not the upset occurs during an EFT session. I mean every anger ... every rejection ... every insult ... every resentment ... every trauma ... every fear ...whenever or wherever they appear. They all need to be resolved with EFT on the spot. This should become a Cosmic Law.
Here are some of the benefits for doing so.
- It would almost instantly defuse the vast majority of our upsets.
- Domestic violence would fade.
- Our crime rate would decline.
- So would our automobile accident rate.
- Our prisons would have fewer inmates.
- Our currently overburdened courtoooms would be looking for something to do.
- Our health expenses would drop substantially
Does anyone doubt this?
Making EFT a Cosmic Law may take a while because there are still some people that don't know about it. However, we can always start with ourselves.
An Outrageous Idea - Mandatory EFT for all war veterans
Send this to your elected representatives, your local Veterans Administration and anyone else who wants to help lift the burden of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder from our soldiers. The cost of this affliction, in both dollars and disrupted lives, is immense and is clearly displayed in our headlines.
Conventional therapies don't even dent the problem. If they did it would be fixed by now. Instead, they tend to cover it up with drugs or employ endless "go-nowhere" sessions that are often re-traumatizing. These things may help but, by and large, they are not doing the job and veterans are left to endure their debilitating symptoms. By contrast, EFT often works beautifully where these efforts have failed and has brought impressive relief in a high percentage of cases. So, let's make EFT mandatory for all war veterans. Here are some of its advantages:
- It's easy to use.
- It's rapid and relatively gentle.
- It's inexpensive.
- Nightmares and intrusive memories usually fade.
- Physical symptoms subside.
- No drugs or endless therapy sessions involved.
- Properly done, it can be applied to large groups of vets at one time.
EFT should be made mandatory for all war veterans and has certainly "earned its stripes" in this regard. Here's why...
- We profusely demonstrated EFT's profound uses in our hour long video "6 Days at the VA." This was done at the Los Angeles Veterans Administration in 1994 and yet EFT still has not been adopted by the VA.
- EFT has been scientifically verified and has appeared in several peer reviewed journals. See http://www.emofree.com/res.htm.
- We have a new video out showing EFT with vets that displays unmistakable benefits. See http://www.emofree.com/splash/video_vets.asp
- Tapping therapies such as EFT have been recommended for many years by The National Veterans Foundation.
Governments like to throw endless amounts of money at problems such as PTSD in hopes that "new research will find an answer." This is unnecessary. The "new research" is already here and is right under the government's nose.
It is up to us to help them see it. So send this message to your elected officials. Send it to your local VA. Do it repeatedly. Send them to www.emofree.com for our free EFT Manual and tell them of your own EFT experiences. They are busy and unaware of EFT's potential ... BUT ... if you persist and persuade, they will come around.
Think about it. If all 400,000 of us on this EFT Insights Newsletter List did this, we could move this mountain and get EFT in the hands of our deserving vets. Are you going to help or will you be watching from the sidelines? Our vets are depending on you. Let's take care of this NOW so our vets don't needlessly spend decades with their pains, traumas, nightmares and destroyed lives.
EFT contains a clear spiritual element that enhances the effectiveness of our prayers. There are, for example, countless examples on the EFT website of people performing EFT in behalf of others surrogately. This is a form of prayer (positive intention) that doesn't require the presence of the other person. As an example, here is an excerpt from an article on our website entitled "Surrogate tapping for a 2 year old with Cancer" by Julia Allen.
"They "gave her" 1 year to live, as the type of cancer was very aggressive ... I have been tapping (at first with the help of a counselor, and later on my own -- for all kinds of things). I did not tell her parents that I intended to do this, but I did do some tapping for the little girl ... 1 week later our friend called saying they re-assessed her condition and determined she might live 3 years ... Well, about 1 week later she had another check-up and as her dad put it, "they have cleared her", she is free of all cancer, not remission, and is expected to live just as long as anyone else. Her doctors say it's incredible. A mystery. In fact the family is coming to visit us for 4th of July (which is a huge deal, as they haven't done anything in years!)"
Please note that while not all EFT applications provide such spectacular results, we get enough such examples to motivate us to try EFT on just about everything, regardless of our ingrained beliefs about what is, or is not, possible.
Remember this...Those who say something can't be cured are those who can't cure it.
Wanna know "The Secret to all of life's mysteries?" It does not come from the outside world because that is but an echo of your inner thoughts. Everything comes from within. It's all in this simple story.
Are you listening to your echo?
A son and his father were walking in the mountains. Suddenly, his son falls, hurts himself and screams: "AAAhhhhhhhhhhh!!!"
To his surprise, he hears a voice repeating his scream from somewhere in the mountain: "AAAhhhhhhhhhhh!!!"
Curious, he yells: "Who are you?" He receives the answer: "Who are you?"
Angered at the response, he screams: "Coward!" He receives the answer: "Coward!"
He looks to his father and asks: "What's going on?" The father smiles and says: "My son, pay attention." And then he screams to the mountain: "I admire you!" The voice answers: "I admire you!"
Again the man screams: "You are a champion!" The voice answers: "You are a champion!"
The boy is surprised, but does not understand. Then the father explains: "People call this echo, but it is also an example of how life will give back everything you say or do.”
Our life is simply a reflection of our thoughts and actions. If you want more love in the world, create more love in your heart. If you want more competence in your team, improve your own competence. This relationship applies to everything, in all aspects of life; life will give you back everything you have given to it."
I gave some thought recently to EFT's future place in this world and how it can replace personal turmoil with personal peace. Properly applied, EFT's gifts provide enormous potential for worldwide improvement. In these thoughts, my mental meanderings took me to Martin Luther King, Jr's famous speech known as "I have a dream..." Then the similar words, "I see the day...." kept echoing in my head. This is the result.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I see the day when war and greed give way to peace and sharing. This will be the day when the swirling world finally rests and we can rejoice together. This all begins, of course, with personal peace ... forgiveness ... and love. World healing cannot happen without them. We cannot legislate or force peace anywhere. Militaries and threats thwart peace in the long run. They do not create it.
I see the day when we lay down our resentments and giggle about their senselessness ... when we remove the fences that separate us from our neighbors and rejoice in one another's presence.
I see the day when we greet each other with smiles rather than suspicion ... when our postman gets the same respect as a professional athlete and when newspapers have inspirational headlines instead of the doom that soaks up all that ink.
I see the day when our schools have eager students rather than hostile attendees ... when learning something new is an exciting "want to" rather than a go-nowhere "have to."
I see the day when our Presidential elections are no longer between candidates that echo "the same old stuff." Instead, I see candidates that will blow us away with their inspirational dreams for building a symphony of cooperation ... where love and respect become more important than the size of our homes.
I see the day when those exquisite feelings we get from helping someone else take priority over our quest for material possessions. Those feelings do far more for our comfort, self-image and personal health than any tangible possession imaginable.
Finally, I see the day when everyone else sees the day.
Love, Gary
