Emotional Freedom Techniques

EFT was originally developed to reduce the therapy process from months/years down to minutes/hours. As emotional problems faded, both physical health and personal performance improved (often dramatically). As a result, EFT is spreading quickly among the healing community. It is an emotional version of acupressure wherein certain meridian release points are gently stimulated by tapping on them with the fingertips.

An Outrageous EFT Idea - EFT should become a Cosmic Law

Note:  Outrageous EFT Ideas are designed to initiate thinking outside the box.  They are launching pads for innovative thinkers and, properly used, will propel our imaginations into new territory.  Please comment only on what exciting new vistas they inspire and toss any thoughts like "this won't work" in the trash.

EFT should become a Cosmic Law

So check it out.  EFT's results as a self-calming technique are legendary and every seasoned EFT'er can fill encyclopedias with pristine examples of this feature.  With impressive consistency, EFT converts upsets into tranquility and usually does so in moments.

But despite the striking benefits of this self-calming feature, it is usually confined to EFT sessions for "bringing a client down" after s/he tunes in to an upsetting event.

That's a big oversight because It has much broader uses than that.

EFT should be used for EVERY upset whether or not the upset occurs during an EFT session.  I mean every anger ... every rejection ... every insult ... every resentment ... every trauma ... every fear ...whenever or wherever they appear.  They all need to be resolved with EFT on the spot.  This should become a Cosmic Law.

Here are some of the benefits for doing so.

  • It would almost instantly defuse the vast majority of our upsets.
  • Domestic violence would fade.
  • Our crime rate would decline.
  • So would our automobile accident rate.
  • Our prisons would have fewer inmates.
  • Our currently overburdened courtoooms would be looking for something to do.
  • Our health expenses would drop substantially

Does anyone doubt this?

Making EFT a Cosmic Law may take a while because there are still some people that don't know about it.  However, we can always start with ourselves.

Love to all, Gary

Great Idea Gary,

Making EFT a Cosmic Law is something I am already doing in my own life, and in the life of my clients. In fact, my MO during sessions, is not to let a single disturbing thought or memory go unturned. By doing this, I have gained a new respect from many people, because so often, the feedback I get is the someones therapist rushed through a clients uncovered memory, and missed many of the small details, of which could have become a tappable issues.

Great thought for the day.

Hi Gary, I’ve been thinking about how one could use a non-obvious EFT technique for a quick “calm me down” that could be used in any situation and I got an idea from the EFT specialty tapes series 2 CD’s of Patricia Carrington and Alan Handlelsman. Using Pats default affirmation “I choose to be calm and confident” and Alan’s idea of pinching your thumb, forefinger and index finger together as an alternative to tapping one could set up a quick fix remedy.
Example: While focusing on pinching the fingers together of your non-dominant hand tap on all points with your dominant hand and repeat “I choose to be calm and confident” do several rounds and then reverse the pinching of the fingers to the other hand and tap on the other side of the body. The idea being to pinch your fingers together whenever you are getting upset etc.  I’ve only just thought of this and I’m still testing it out so any feedback would be appreciated. Don from Oz

HI Gary,
I am interested in what Don Mortimer says. Pinching two (or more fingers together is a technique I often use in hypnotherapy to anchor a good feeling or memory etc that will be of benefit in a difficult situation. This could be a very useful variation. I use this when working with clients to stop smoking I get them to picture a time when they have given up and their significant other or children etc are giving them hugs and love for having stopped, I get them to build up the feeling and anchor it by pinching finger and thumb together, this is used if they ever feel tempted to smoke again- so they know what they would lose if they smoke. Feedback is positive. I'll add the tapping to this from now on , my guess is that it will increase effectiveness

I believe you're right that upsets need to be dealt with on the spot, internally, rather than 'let out' on other people. However, I've found a great deal of value from transforming my negative feelings into their opposite, deliberately, by various means. So I think it's a great relief to have EFT there, and to know we can deal with upsetting feelings as they arise, but it's not the only option; acknowledging our feelings and learning to choose better ones by directing our thoughts (blessing, finding something to be thankful for, appreciating something etc.) is, to my mind, a great learning opportunity and equally valuable.

What a great idea!  I've already discovered what a difference EFT makes in how I feel when someone insults me, for example, helping me avoid propagating the bad karma.  I've also seen how surrogate tapping can be surprisingly effective, sometimes even more effective than tapping for myself.  I think this is because the target of tapping is not  aware and therefore not resisting the effects.  As for the embarrassment of obvious tapping which Don Mortimer mentions above, I have found that even just clearly imagining tapping myself works.  There is a lot of potential here.

A recent AHA moment!

Gary, you are SO right! I love the idea!! What I see happen (I am an aurareader aswell) is that peoples vibrationlevel goes up during and especially àfter tapping all "trees" that popped up. And higher vibes mean more space for happines and enjoyment and less space for worry inside.
What excites me is that in the film 'The Secret', this principle is very clearly worked out. I inspire my clients (in between tappingsessions, when they appear to get stuck) by having them visualise AND feel positive emotions and then turn back to the worry emotion and back to the positive emotion, just for a few seccond each, and so on (Contrastingtechnique). I explain that they jump in their frequenties up and down that way, just bij THINKING-feeling. And the beauty of it is that it is visible and feelable for them, and the UP emotion becomes very favourite in about 5 jumps). So the motivation to tap on anger, fears unbelieve,  etc. increases. (A generalisation about the dutch: we are pretty sceptical and for many people here EFT is hocus pocus and it CAN NOT be this easy. We like to strùggle and wòrk for our happyness to happen, otherwise "it did not work", even though I can clearly see the difference in their eyes. F.i. people always ask: 'do you want my mental score or the emotional score for the tension I feel now'.   (We like control;-))

I am somewhat new to EFT.  I use it in ways that are somewhat in the direction that Gary is suggesting -- though not quite as universally as he suggests.  I do use it on the spot for big upsets -- although I have not yet tried it when there are people around who don't know of EFT.  But, on the way home it would occur to me to do EFT --  do it in my car while driving quiet often. Also, often I do not get the sort of instant relief that many seem to -- so I might do many rounds.  Oh -- I did EFT on an airplane once, for about 15 minutes?  I tried to do it without distubing my neighbors or being terribly obvious (hard!) -- but I figured that it was less distrupitive than sobbing etc (I was very upset). Driving  while doing EFT is not at all hard for me, and I'll do EFT in the car for either a "spontaneous" down feeling, or sometimes on a longer trip I'll pick something from the past to tap about for a while.  However I'm not consistent about this -- I might go a couple of weeks without doing EFT while driving too. Finally, in the direction of Gary's suggestion, in the last few weeks I've tried to form a habit of tapping (even if very briefly) EVERY time I think of a specific intrusive trauma.  It is amazing how often this actually is (I notice it more since I am doing something in response).  I have wondered (humorously) what percentage of the day I would be tapping if I tapped for ALL upsetting thoughts.....

you are, of course, right Gary.  But what i believe to be the most important issue, you just mentioned in passing:

"Making EFT a Cosmic Law may take a while because there are still some people that don't know about it."

I believe it is time to take the next step and take EFT up a level or two, so the public awareness is increased to such an extent that anyone suffering from just about anything. would reach for their KC point rather than an aspirin.  We have a groundswell of level 1 users and level 2 practitioners ready to promote and extople the virtues of EFT.  In the UK we have reached saturation point for those who have heard about it and have gone on to learn it, but now we need to get it into the consciousness of "Joe and Joanne Bloggs"  who will be astounded at the instant benefits achievable.

Only then will your and our vision of "Making EFT a Cosmic Law" come to fruition.  I for one would be happy to make a financial contribution to a local/national body for use only in the raising of awareness in the community of EFT.  Perhaps it could be an annual license fee for practitioners, as they would be the most likely to receive the knock-on interest created.  Anyway the time has come to step it up for the good of humanity ( OK - and animals!).

We all know that EFT can be used on a surrogate basis.  Why not bump that up to a global level, and do EFT for large groups?  We're all connected at higher levels of consciousness, so there's no reason that surrogate EFT shouldn't work on large masses of people.  It can be applied to victims of catastrophies, but can equally be applied to those who would do harm to others.  What if large numbers of us started tapping to relieve the hatred/pain/fear that causes terrorists to hurt people?  What if we started tapping for all victims of child/animal/domestic abuse?  The possibilities are unlimited.  In the field of remote healing, size truly does NOT matter.

Hi Gary,
Personally, I have my own Cosmic law that i try to touch evryone i meet, talk to, communicate with..about EFT. I teach all my clients that i work with EFT (even if they don't want to!), this makes for very long sessions but i do this without exception. I also leave every client with their Personal Peace Procedure.(again, even if they don't want it!) It is just too good to keep to ourselves.EFT is for caring and sharing.
Looking at your own list of benefits, i would also add that i think serious illnesses would dramatically diminish because of our constant and consistent tapping on the smaller issues as they happen in daily life. Would they even be eradicated? What a wonderful day that would be?
I looked up Cosmic and Law in the Thesaurus. " LIMITLESS" is one of the words under "COSMIC" and we are all finding out at an amazinly increasing speed that is so true of EFT..it seems to be without limits that EFTis now working with.People all over the world are trying EFT on everything and experimenting with "things" i would never have dreamed of several years ago when i first started learning EFT.
Looking up" LAW", words such as " CHARTER", " CONSTITUTION", "CODE" were all there.
Perhaps collectively, we can start our own worldwide EFT Cosmic Law ?
Anyway,it is certainly thought provoking Gary.
Now here's a strange one and don't ask " what have you been on?!"
I simply wrote down
EFT COSMIC LAW and the words followed
Evreyone
For
Tapping
Caring
Or
Sharing
My
Ideal
Cosmic
Law
Across the
World
"Everyone For Tapping, Caring Or Sharing, My Ideal Cosmic Law Across( the)World"
On that note i have probably stretched the boundaries!?

I'm not sure what you mean when you say you want to "make" EFT a cosmic law.
Surely it is already?
It's just up to us to recognize it as such.
It's like the Law Of Attraction. It's a Law whether it's recognized as such or not.
You might want to look into Dr. Joe Vitale's forthcoming book ZERO LIMITS which will be out in July, i believe.
Thanks for everything

Hi Gary,

I think EFT already IS a Cosmic Law.  It's right up there with the Law of Attraction. There are some things that are so "simple" they escape being discovered (by most)!  I have always felt that healing is a very simple thing - we just haven't discovered the simple way it works yet - until now!

I agree with Karo van der Burgt that working with both EFT and the Law of Attraction is even MORE powerful.  While both EFT and The Secret are power stand-alones, when you put the knowledge of both TOGETHER, the world changes.

As a  Reiki Master and Foot Reflexologist, I use EFT for myself and share with many others who have had amazing results also.  Personally, I have had miracles happen for myself and I AM SO GRATEFUL for EFT!  What a feeling of peace  the resolution brings!

It's time now on the planet for all of us to understand how much personal control we have over our mental and physical health. When EFT reaches critical mass, I belive we will have a seachange in the way things happen.  Once enough people understand the impact of changing the way they respond to personal difficulties (fear, anger, stress, rage. etc.) and that they can impact their own physical health conditions, the genie will be out of the bottle!

What both EFT and The Secret have done is to give to everyone the ability to take natural control over their own person - body mind and spirit.  This is essential for planetary health and happiness, not to mention personal wellness.  Thank you Gary for sharing EFT!  Namaste

For me, the Cosmic Law is that we are all Spirit--God--One.

EFT is the most powerful tool (that I know of) for:

    *blasting away old stories
    *erasing cellular memory
    *healing core wounds
*letting go of what no longer serves us
    *healing emotional pain
    *helping create what we want

So, I see EFT as a Cosmic Tool that helps to clear away all (false) myths; stories that have hurt us; lies; fears; and doubts. It can work to deal with issues from the past, and also help with issues in the present moment. EFT can be used in situations of immediate pain, like hornet stings and an abcessed tooth. It can also help to get rid of the negative self-talk that can keep us from realizing our dreams--so, we can use EFT for our future. We can also use EFT to attract what we want.

I believe that EFT helps clear away the debris that gets in the way of experiencing the Truth of Who We Really Are. Emotional Freedom Technique is my Cosmic Laser that almost seems to work like magic!

In approximately August 2007, I was given the EFT discs except for the one on PTSD and AA and cigarette smoking and had the tapping, etc, explained to me.  I tried in several times with no relief of my symptoms of which there are several.  I shared the information with two other women.  They, not I, experienced some relief.  My two sisters also have the Manuel and discs, but as of yet have done nothing with them.  I am just recently (November 2006) been classified as "in remission" from small cell cancer and magligency in the lymph nodes.  I had no radiation, chemo only which was started in May 2005. I had tried the EFT on the neurology the chemo was doing and did do to my hands, feet, legs and arms.  I tried EFT on that wth no results.  I have fallen several times this past year, always with trauma on the left side.  Broken shoulder blade then additional trauma two weeks later to the same shoulder.  One night as I lay in my bed something happened to my rib cage or back which has caused a very painful injury to my left arm.  I have been x-rayed and told there were no broken bones.  Then on  December 26, 2006 coming home from our daughter's, I feel off a curb, landed on my left side which injured my left knee, left foot and left hand.  I had them x-rayed and was told there were no broken bones.  I have continued to hurt and my left side is getting weaker and weaker.  My chiroprator told me that she believed it was stretched muscle and ligaments.  She also knew about EFT and used it, but she thought my problems would be better served with another softer program.  Something about emotions.  I personally believe EFT can work for me, but the few times I have used it on my own problems, I have a feeling that someone is listening and is going to laugh at and ridicule me and I can't seem to get into the tapping and talking.  Can someone help me here and tell me what to do?  I believe the EFT Manuel was put on my computer sometime in August 2006.

I also recoverd from pancreatic cancer in 1994,  ARDS in January 2000, gangreen in my fingers resulting in amputation of only one/half of the right index finger.  Now
I have had this cancer thing, and I am really tired.  Sometimes I just don't want to kept trudging.  I am not a child either, I am 63 years old.  Please can someone help me!!

The response to your blog has netted some valuable and interesting results; all of which are worth their weight in mention, but Suzanne Paro brought forward the essence of  EFT along with the Law of Attraction and how it should be an intregal part of our life's.

We have more power available to us than we realize and EFT is definitely the way to bring that awareness about, so that we can all raise the universal consciousness to it's highest potential.

We live in a time of amazing possibilities and I see EFT bringing more.... much more..... to the world, than has ever been accomplished in the past 100 years. What a place to be! Able to supply the answers to all the hurdles and snares that cause such chaos and confusion in our lives, not to mention ill health. And it's been there, right inside us, all this time! Truly amazing, this thing called EFT!

I did experience a peculiar result after intensive EFT w. regard to my weight. I resonate strongly to EFT and all thought field therapies which brought EFT into creation.  I do want to hear from people working with autistics.  Would love to find out how Temple Grandin, PhD ("Thinking in Pictures" and other wonderful works by an autistic author) would/could work with EFT.  Anyone else with brain challenges - how would it work with them?  There is a lot of congenital DNA "damage" and chemical insufficiencies autistics are dealing with.  Would really appreciate some work in the newsletter by professionals learning how to work with brain and DNA damage.  Seems to me that autism et al are beyond the EFT and "perception" work of Dr. Bruce Lipton and Gregg Braden, Psych K as well.  Somewhere there must be a merging of all these works to help people with brain challenges - which could be any of us at any unexpected time.

Bringing all these thought field therapies would, I sense, be honoring a cosmic law already in place which is based in harmony and balance.

Hello Gary,

I don't know how much sense this is going to make but thinking outside of the box, (and I thought about this all night long,) the beauty of EFT is that it allows us to combine the ANCIENT  (Acupressure) with the TIMELESS, (The Truth about who we are and how we feel.)

Marie Holliday told us that Cosmic means LIMITLESS.  Notwithstanding, WE are the Cosmic Law, EFT is simply the Cosmic Teacher, because what EFT is teaching me is:  WE ARE ALL LIMITLESS AND TIMELESS and that sounds like a Cosmic Law to me.  So, I recommend that we all keep on tapping and wrap our minds around that.

EFT is already a Cosmic Law. Just as with the LAW of Attraction we bring gloom and doom into our life because we are ignorant of cosmic laws, so with EFT we can reverse the process, because now we have a key to open the door to the Palace of Unlimited Possibilities whereby we experience the blessings of health, success, and new joy in life. The bestseller "Secret" is really not a secret. It is just a small puzzle piece in the larger tapestry of Cosmic Laws.

He enrolled himself in the G.E.D program, (hi did all the talking).A week ago, his reading score was low; yesterday his teacher told me that she was excited because my son did a practice test and the score was enough to approve tha test! .I have been tapping for reading comprehension...
Thanks, Gary for everything. After many years of struggling I finally feel peace.

EFT has become a way of life for myself, my clients, my animals. A few days ago, I had had a difficult time when trees hit a telephone post and for 5 days I had no electricity, phone, or internet service, so all my communication was down, no heat, no light, no stove, no water (I am on a well)and no functioning alarm system in case I went out. Since I work from home, and my phone was out, I also lost 5 days of work. I was in overwhelm. While driving my car I suddenly felt what may have been an anxiety attack. I started to tap - but since I needed my hands to drive, I tapped the karate chop point on the wheel and proceeded with the rest of the tapping, except for "under the arm" which I imagined. Within moments I reclaimed my composure and my calm. So now I know that it doesn't always matter HOW you tap, but that you tap!
I believe that with the myriad of people using EFT at any given time, we have the support of a world full of "Borrowing Benefits" assistance. So when I tap for myself or for my clients, I feel a world of energy and voices just as when I was on stage working with you, Gary. Thank you for making all this possible for so many - and so simply.

Dear Gary, Brian, Frank Hilde;

Thank you for answering my plea!!! My E-mail is prp625@bellsouth.net.  I am watching  my DVDs and CDs, reading Gary's postings and everything else I can get ahold of regarding EFT.  I know in my innermost being that EFT can help me.  This pain, emotionally, physically and mentally is absolutely driving me almost to the breaking point.  Please contact me as soon as possible.  I had checked this blog a couple of times but had decided that my entry had not addressed the right issues and would not be answered.  I try so hard to be positive all the time and not to let people see how I really feel.

I do not feel as if I have had anyone to really talk to in a long time.  My husband and I do not talk about anything.  There is always noise, noise, noise all the time.

Well, I will wait to hear back.  Thanks for listening and being there.

Ann: I found out that behind of many of the behavior issues was ANXIETY...becasuse of this emotion he would be upset in routine changes (a classic autism trait),that would lead to fear to try new things and places and to  be angry...and when frustrated that would lead to anger, too and hit things. So I tried; Even though I have anxiety, Ideeply..etc. the set up (sore spot) and the whole round. Then I change to : Even though I am anxious to go to new places, to met new people,I choose to experience  and enjoy new things, places, peolple, etc. I have treated anger, anxiety, attachment to toys, improve eye contact, get along with sister, share, try new foods, echolalia.I have not seen any negative side effect only good results.I do EFT each morning from 8 to 9, in my bedroom while my son is sleeping in the next room. I tap on myself while I visualize tapping on him. Also I have a board in his room where I write with color markers the statement for the day.Hope this help. My email is: clinkd1368@yahho.com.

This is exactly what i have espoused to since I attended my level 1 induction.  If anyone is not living this way when they know how incredibly effective it is, I really want to know WHY?  the usual reason is procrastination, "I'll get round to it when I need to" is the mantra.  Of course they never get around to it and then loose their belief in the power of EFT.

What do you think can be done as a "BOOSTER" jab for those who just can't be bothered?
